Games I Played / Beat This Year - 2024

Updated Throughout My 2024 - games I started or finished in a different year than 2024 will be indicated.

Thoughts on This Year:
I'll be updating this through the year, I'll be including games that I started in 2023, but finished this year; and games that I started this year, but finished in 2025. Also going to be including games that I've replayed so as to get a better picture of how the year went.

I started Ocarina of Time 3D I think a week or so before the new year, and I got around to finishing it before the Winter semester started. I also finished Night in the Woods during this time, which I had started a whiiiiile back in 2023, playing with my girlfriend.

Ocarina of Time is a game I'm glad to have beat since it is such a huge part of gaming history. Maybe I would've been blown away with it if I had been able to experience it when it first came out in 1998 instead of being busy with not existing yet. I still had a fantastic time with it and can appreciate why other people prefer its style to the style seen in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I'm kind of worried to play its sequel, Majora's Mask, only because I hear the remake compromise's the original's art direction, even more so than OoT3D did for its original.

Night in the Woods was a game that I, at first, liked a lot less, but I've since come around on how it tells its story and the conclusion it comes to.

I’m already pretty happy with how this year has been going for gaming! I finally returned to OneShot to get its “solstice” ending, and though I was a little disappointed by it, I’m glad I went back to get it. I don’t know why, but I thought it’d be difficult to manipulate my files to start the game over for the new content.

I replayed my two favourite Super Nintendo games on original hardware - gaining more of an appreciation for them. Super Mario World feels like the apex of the 2D Mario series, weaving together its world map and levels in such a cool way. The secret exits in the levels are usually pretty clever and gratifying to find, especially when you unlock Star Road. I think it could've made it more interesting, as Star Road can't exactly be used as a space-highway to access later levels faster (up until the Valley of Bowser). I appreciated the way Super Metroid's world was connected and getting a better feel on its controls reinforced my love for it in much the same way.

Link's Awakening DX was also something I "replayed physically". It was a very fun, but different playthrough to my first. A majority of my enjoyment came from trying to optimize my path through the game and juggling different tasks to remember in my mind.
