Some pretty epic games you got here for 2024. Metal gear solid 2 and 3 are gonna be a blast!

@Sanguine Yup, looking forward to it! What games are you planning on playing this year?

Well I failed my 30 games goal last year lmao, it just wasnt possible with things going on. So instead im gonna focus on 15 and if I get over it, its a bonus. Notable games this year are gonna be the Yakuza games up to "Like a Dragon" (and beating the Amon fights in the process), Pokemon Arceus and Violet, Cyberpunk and Mario galaxy 2 and Mario Odyssey (Finally!). There's also a few others lik Sly Cooper 2 and the first Persona game.

@Sanguine Ah damn lolol. Yeah I get that. A smaller goal is a good call, otherwise it adds extra pressure to beat games haha. Those sound like fun! I finished The Man Who Erased His Name not long ago. Yakuza games are always a good time. I was also curious about Sly Cooper and the first Persona game. I also heard the Cyberpunk DLC is really good. Seems like you have some cool games to look forward to!

Indeed I do hehe. Yeahhh I played the first Sly Cooper Game and it was awesome! Old and a bit dated but the art style and fun has really held up to this day and I think this game came out like early 2000, maybe a bit before. First Persona I have no idea what its gonna be like but ive heard all the Persona games are quite good. Downside is, unless you got a very early Playstation console, Sly and early Persona are gonna have to be emulated I think. At least for me they will.

And yeah, im loving the Yakuza series so far, ive been playing the games one after another with nearly zero burnout. Cyberpunk im finally gonna see through to the end because hopefully a lot of the bugs are fixed by now and also because of the DLC hehe. Oh yeah, I'm gonna also get DMC4 and 5 done as well. Im quite happy with the selection ive got this year haha. But yours looks pretty great two, though ive never heard of Valkyrie Profile, Moon and Planescape.

@Sanguine Oh that's neat, I'll have to check out Sly sometime. I have a copy of the first one on the PS2, but I haven't put in the time to play it lol. Ah yeah, the first Persona is weird. I heard the best English version is on the PSP? It's too bad Sega/Atlus hasn't remastered it or anything. What made you want to play the very first Persona? I usually hear people saying that it's the least remarkable of the Personas.

Nice! I've always taken a long Yakuza break every time I finish one. I'm surprised you haven't felt the burnout haha! Yeah, I'm curious what your thoughts are on Cyberpunk! Damn! You're in for a wild ride with DMC5! That one's a real gem, that's for sure!

Ah thanks! Valkyrie Profile is an old PS1 JRPG that's very renowned, Moon is a fairly obscure game that inspired Undertale so I was intrigued, and finally Planescape is an old school WRPG that's well loved for its story. Let's see if I actually have the focus to finish them all lolol

You should check out Sly, I believe all the games are quite good in that series. Though just beware for the first game, a very select few of the levels are god dam aids. The ones in my mind that stick out the most is the Chicken level and the 3rd boss fight, unique little mini games for sure but just...[expresses flashbacks of failure after failure] ugggghhhhhh lmao. I think there's also a few sections on the final level which are a tiny bit of a headache two but not too bad compared to the ones I just mentioned. Rest of the game though, chefs kiss, its fantastic and great.

Uhhhhh, I dunno for Persona 1 lol. People usually start on the 3rd game I hear, especially now since they just released a remaster on the PC which im very much looking forward to. But Ive played older games before and I just felt like, even if the games are kind of completely unrelated from each other in the series, I wanted to start with the first one. Kind of like what I'm doing for Final fantasy (when I eventually get to it). Im just kind of like that, I like starting in timeline wise with game series unless it reveals something huge and spoilery.

Well yeah hehe, Yakuza with no burnout is another mystery for me. I do take at least a week break, sometimes a month before starting another one. But I just really love the series, its so good and I'm eager to move further and further into Kiryu's story. And the further I go along, the better the games get overall from what I remember from what a friend was telling me. Plus, im eager to do something with another hobby and I need to finish the Yakuza games (Up to Like A Dragon) for it anyway so I might as well keep the train going until I can do it.

I have heard many good things about DMC5, in fact, its so good for one of my friends, its basically there personal game they go to when they have nothing else to do. Pretty sure they have like a 1000 hours into that game the amount of time I see them on it. But yeah, im very much looking forward to playing that game when it comes around, ive seen a few things here and there as well as some of the gameplay and it looks siiiick.

I wish you luck with them all hehe. Valkyrie Profile sounds cool and the others sound great in there own right two, though they are old so...I hope they dont pull a final fantasy 4 and throw too much old school bullshit your way hehe.

Final fantasy *3*, sorry, its easy to mix em up, I say that because thats the only final fantasy game I have played so far and it threw a lot of bullshit at me lol

@Sanguine For sure, I'll see if I can beat Sly this year. Lmao sounds like me playing Dark Souls 2 sometimes. Looking forward to it!

Ah I see, that makes sense. I actually started with Persona 3 myself haha. Let me know what you think of Persona 1, I might even play through it this year if I get the chance.

That's cool, as long as you're not feeling any burnout from it, I don't see why you wouldn't keep going haha! Are you gonna play Judgment too? I thought the first one was pretty sick and I heard the second one is even better.

Oh damn, yeah I can imagine that. It's a game with a lot to offer since the skill ceiling is so high and it's just so fun to play. Yeah it's cool as hell.

Thanks! Yeah there's probably some old school bs baked into them here and there. We'll see. Lmao yeah Final Fantasy 3's full of bs, especially that ending dungeon. I remember beating it a second time after overleveling like crazy with a team full of roided up monks. Good times lolol

Depending on how fast I do the other games, it might be around June or July time I get round to it (Hopefully fingers crossed). Theirs quite a few in front of Persona at the moment, the longest ones are definitely gonna be Pokemon Arceus and Cyberpunk lol. But I definitely will let you know, I always do a review of a game when I beta it.

Ohhhhh my buddy ol pal, imma play allllll the Yakuza games. Including the Judgement games, Issin, The man who erased his name and the new Like a Dragon games (Though I wish I would play Dead Souls two even though I hear its not as good as the other games). Its just that im gonna be playing them in a row until I beat Yakuza 6, then I'll take a long break by playing the other games on my long ass list and here and there I'll play a Yakuza game, though they are prioritised near the top...though by the time I get to the newest one, I bet there will be like 10 more I have to play after that haha. Those developers are insane releasing a new one every year.

Final Fantasy 3 is the only game ever I just completely gave up on without finishing its main story. That end dungeon at the end is fucking just...nearly impossible to do without you power leveling like crazy. I hear its kind of infamous for being a stupidly long dungeon with no save points. And that was the killing point for me, the bosses themselves weren't even that challenging for me even though I was like around level 40 or 50, it was just that loonnnnng ass time with needing to beat 6 bosses in a row without stopping. I knew I could just leave and go grind up to overpowering levels and then just sweep it buuut I could not be assed lmao, I had better games to play and better ways to spend my time then spend like 6 or 12 hours grinding.

I meant beat it god dam spelling, why cant I edit you comment :(

@Sanguine Ah okay, sounds good! Looking forward to your review!

Ah that's cool! I haven't had the drive to play an entire series in a while. The closest I got recently was when I beat all the 3D Sonic games last year lol. Yeah they keep dishing out new Yakuza games somehow. It's pretty crazy!

Lmao yeah I get that. It was insane getting there the first time for me. During my second playthrough though, I was super ready. I weirdly enjoy grinding in those games though so it was fine by me once I knew about it. I was pissed though during the first run when I got so far into the final dungeon just to have to run all the way back out to grind up. I think you made the right call lolol

If I keep going with Yakuza, it will definitely be the longest series of games ive ever played. I have played other kind of lengthy series before though and I kind of enjoy that kind of thing. I think the longest running in terms of games that are massive in terms of content ive played is the Borderlands series and its a series I also adore...even if the last three they have released weren't the greatest of all time in terms of story lol. A series in terms of number of games though, probably the halo series, Ive played from Reach all the way to Halo 4 because I got the Masterchief addition which has six games packed into one. One of these days I'll get round to Halo 5 and Halo infinite lol. How many games are in the Sonic 3D series? Im guessing there's quite a lot, being marios rival in terms of original video games does that lol.

Yeahhhh, probably, though it was kind of heart wrenching for me to quit since like I said, its the first game I gave up on. But not only that, the first time I went in there blind not knowing that my save progress wasn't going to be saved. I made it soooo farrrrr, I beat the pretend final boss, got through the 4 or 5 mini big bosses and made it to the final boss...and I swear, I think I was 2 or 3 hits away from killing them. I tried a few more times but knowing that I need to save my spells and potions got to me I think and I kept on dying the 1st or 2nd mini big bosses. So going from almost killing the final boss and beating the game to quitting just...was not a nice feeling lol. But yeah, grinding I suppose is just some peoples thing but for me, it depends on the grindable points and how fast it will take and if its worth the pain lmao. And for me, in that game with that dam large unsavable dungeon, I just dont think it was worth the time. Especially since I think the dungeon itself unless you somehow blaze through it with overleveling, I think for my first attempt it took me 2 hours to get through it.

@Sanguine Ah I see, yeah Borderlands is definitely a long series content wise. I kinda dropped off after 2 lol. Ah I see, funny that you mention Halo, I'm about to play some Halo Reach haha! Oh yeah, that Master Chief Collection is sick! There's around 15 of them? I made this list for them lol: https://www.backloggd.com/u/stealthblade/list/3d-sonic-games-ranked/

Yeah I totally get that. It happened to me too lol. So close, but so far. That final dungeon is pure evil lmao! It's only by grinding that I was able to beat it since it's so long and difficult. Why did you choose Final Fantasy 3? I'm curious since it's not too great of a Final Fantasy lol

Yeah you kind of need to really love the series of Borderlands to actually keep going with it. The first one is barely worth playing (Like, there is probably more story in the original 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game then Borderlands 1 but I appreciate it for what it is and I'm always down to play with a friend who wants to try it), 2 is literally just...perfect. Annnnd then things go down hill again, but I still love a lot of things about the series. Presequal wasnt bad but it wasnt completely good. Borderlands 3 story sucked ass along with its villains, everyone can agree with that...buuuut its combat is definitely the best and most fun it has ever been and I gotta say, the DLC's really rocked, if the game was just those DLC's in terms of story, that game would have been game of the year. Oh yeah! You should check out Tales of the Borderlands if you haven't already, that game is just a little behind Borderlands 2 in terms of just sheer fun and a great story for me. I think its in my top 20 games two, its fantastic.

Oh niice! Yeah I really loved all the Halo games, 4's story was probably the weakest but Reaches, Halo 1, 2, 3 and ODST whatever its called were all just great. For some reason ODST I think is my favourite with the remake of 2 being a little behind it. Its just...really different compared to the rest of the series and its kind of like "Halo...but a detective stealth game" and I just really dig that. Have fun with Reach, Reach has arguably one of the best storys in my opinion.

Holyyyy crapppp, dats a lot of Sonic games, ive never really played the Sonic games or had much interest for them. Im definitely more on the Mario side then Sonic, though I have tried some Sonic games before, I think Heroes and Secret of the Rings are the only ones ive ever tried and I just never finished them. Ive heard a lot of things and had recommendations about Frontiers though.

I was actually gonna start with the very first Final Fantasy...much like I am gonna with Persona 1, because its just the very beginning of the series. But, when I went on the Steam store at the time, they only had the remake of up to Final Fantasy 3 so I just decided I would start there. Since then the remakes of Final Fantasy 1 and 2 have come out on Steam, so eventually when I come back to it, I'll be going to 1, then 2...and then skipping the fuck past 3 and going straight to 4 lmao.

@Sanguine Ah yeah, I really enjoyed playing through the earlier Borderlands games and then the 3rd game's story really made me lose interest. It's cool that you were able to look past the story and enjoy the game despite it. I wasn't aware that the DLC was good though, that's interesting. Ah yeah, I've heard good things about the Tales game.

Ah yeah, I've heard a lot of bad things about Halo 4's story haha. I really liked playing through Halo 2's campaign a long time ago. It's really neat! ODST was also pretty cool, I agree. I kinda forgot a lot of the story bits to the games though, so I will probably replay it one of these days. Thanks, I will. I'm really enjoying Reach so far, I see that the story is very engaging from what I have played so far.

Yeah even in just the 3D games, there's a lot of Sonic out there and a lot of them suck lol. Heroes and Secret Rings are more of an acquired taste to be honest. I would recommend you check out Sonic Adventure 2 for probably the most polished 3D Sonic experience and Sonic Adventure 1 for a more experiment experience. Those are easily my favorites, despite their issues.

Ah I see haha, it's funny that we're talking about the 1st Final Fantasy since I'm currently playing FF1 right now! I do feel that FF1 to 3 are very grindy, so you might not enjoy them very much, but that's just how I approach them lol. If you wanna play the first Final Fantasy, you might want to play Final Fantasy Renaissance, which is a fan made remake of the first game with a lot of improvements

I loovvvvvvve the Tales games, they are so freaking good....for the most part, the newer Borderlands Tales game is said to be kinda awful. But im gonna be playing the walking dead tell tales game soon if I manage to get through my quota quite quick and thats a good one. Ive also played the Wolf Among Us and thats freaking great as well, I cant wait for the second one thats coming out soon...I hope, its apparently been cancelled like 3 times in the past. But I think the first Borderlands one right now is my favourite, its got the best humour along with 2 and its vibe is similar to what made Borderlands 2 perfection.

Immmm, probably never gonna play any of the Sonic games if I'm being honest, they just dont really vibe with me. But thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep them in mind.

Ahhhh, I seeee, hm, alright I'll take a look, well actually, can you tell me where I can find it, that might be handy to know hehe. I honestly dont mind the grindiness though, I just dont like it under specific circumstances. As long as 1 and 2 dont have a dungeon like 3 does at the end and I can save before the boss. We good, im fine attempting a boss over and over again and failing until I succeed. Its when I have to spend 2 frickin hours trying to get back to said boss lmao.

@Sanguine Oh that's nice, I enjoyed the first Walking Dead episode, but I was really disappointed by the 2nd episode. I'm curious about your thoughts on it when you get there! I get that, Borderlands 1 is also my favorite from what I've played.

Ah I see, that's understandable. I have some games like that too that I don't really have much of an interest on.

Yeah, it's right here: https://rengames.us/ffr.html
I think their download link is in their Discord server for some reason. Ah I see, I usually just grind a crazy amount before tackling any dungeons to avoid that FF3 situation nowadays for these older RPGs lol

Really? Borderlands 1 is your favourite of the series? I was not expecting that but im quite curious hehe. Mine is 2, why is 1 your favourite?

Yeah I usually like all sorts of games but like, racing games, sports games (unless its family fun by Nintendo) and just a specific lot of series are kind of out for me. What series of games are you not interested in playing?

Ah! Thanks buddy! I'll keep that pocketed for the day I get back on with Final Fantasy. Yeah I get that, honestly I feel like im gonna be like that a little but hopefully that kind of dungeon is rare nowhere days. The only time I really overgrind is if it just meets the 3 criteria, its fun, I have a goal thats not too far and it wont take me that long to get me there. 3's final dungeon was just like, I was kind of over the game by the time I got to the end and I couldnt find a good grindable spot that would get me to where I needed to be in a good amount of time. In pokemon I like grinding because its got a variety of different ways you can do it and you can evolve your pokemon into bigger and more powerful and cooler looking pokemon. Plus you could get different moves as well so you can really feel your progression to getting OP in those games. In Final Fantasy its more, oh hey, you leveled up, your stats increased a little good job. But hey, that just my opinion, if you love grinding in those kind of old games, more power to you hehe.

@Sanguine I liked the simplicity and the clear sense that Borderlands 1 was a game that just didn't give a fk. It was a bold game that had a clear focus of being a fun looter shooter with a strong visual style and a punk attitude. I played the games co-op, so I usually wasn't able to focus on the story anyway, so it was cool that the developers didn't care about the story much either. They just focused on being funny and sometimes comedic. Along with that, it was the first in the series, so everything was fresh and new when it came out, which is also a big plus.

I agree on the racing and sports genre thing, but also, I can't stand a lot of these open world games. They're all so samey and shallow that I usually don't have much interest in them and when I do play them, I don't enjoy them that much at all. For example, stuff like the Horizon series, but maybe more particularly, the AAA Sony open world games. Like I played Ghost of Tsushima for a while, but it can barely hold my interest. I also don't have much interest in games like Minecraft or The Last of Us. I have tried them, but just to know about them. I also didn't like the idea of how they made God of War resemble The Last of Us more in the reboot. There's probably plenty of other ones, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

No problem! Yeah other games do grinding a lot better. I feel like for Final Fantasy though, you'd enjoy Final Fantasy 6, 7, or 10 more since they have more of a modern appeal and require a lot less grinding. The original trilogy were just grinding hells in my opinion lolol. I've beaten FF2 and FF3 and I don't remember much about them besides how shallow their stories were and just how grindy they were. I do like grinding though haha

Thats absolutely fair enough, I do like 1 in its own way but its just got nothing on 2 and the games later on in the series for me. I know Borderlands 3 had a crap story...but at least it had a story hehe. I played all the games co-op two, multiple in times in fact since as I said, its beloved series for me. I played it with my next door neighbour, my brother and currently playing through the games with one of my best friends but we liked to listen to the story when it came around. But...2 was just special for me, it had a great story, combat was even better (Though I will admit, I miss insta killing things with the cars and things going splat...and Revolvers being a class of there own, I wish they added that back in hehe), the areas you could go to were so much more unique (Borderlands 1 was about 70% just tatooine lmao), Handsome Jack being Handsome Jack, a lot more bosses were more memorable and the side quests for the most part were just pure fun. Also...Tiny Tina's DnD DLC is reason enough to play Borderlands 2 on its own. But thats just my reasoning, I do respect Borderlands 1 and I always enjoy playing it when it comes round. I do kind of think that it did the looter shooter aspect the best in my opinion because I think it focuses on it more and you need better shit to get through stuff in that game. Otherwise, prepare to die a lot hehe.

Yeah I completely get that with the open world games. A lot of people out there are saying just how daunting those games are since developers keep making them bigger and bigger. Honestly its not for everyone and I get everyone who says those games are just too big and there's barely anything in them. But for me, I like those kinds of games, I could not play two open world games back to back like I can with Yakuza but I like them. Its not the hugeness of it that I like, its more the content within it. If its an open world game with not a lot of content in it then, yeah fuck that, im just gonna do the story and fuck everything else. If its got a lot of sidequests however and a pretty good system of spotting them across the map...then fuck yeah I can put my time in that. It also depends on what game it is as well, if its something like the Batman Arkham games or a Bethasda game or the spiderman games, I will always enjoy an open world game like that because superhero games are cool and Skyrim is the game I have spent the most time on ever and I practically grew up on that game along with the Fallout games and Oblivion...which is probably why I like open world games in the first place lol. Fair enough with The last of us and Minecraft, I dont mind Minecraft but it was more when I was younger that I played it and the high was big. These days...even though Minecraft is for everyone, I feel like im too old for it lmao. The Last Of Us I havent played yet but its on the list along with God of war so I'll have to see for myself. I suppose it just depends on the persons tastes maybe, dont tell me much about the storys but what's its gameplay system like in those games? Is it like you go from one scenario to another scenario?

Yeahhhh I gathered hehe, like I said, as long as there's no 3 hour long dungeon with no save points, I think I will be good to do 1 and 2. If I have the tenacity and determination to beat Sans from Undertale, the final boss of Metal Gear Rising and...like any Dark soul boss. I can beat a final fantasy boss whilst being slightly underleveled and following along the lines of an online guide (Because if I was struggling with 3 trying to find where I need to go, oh boy I can only imagine with 1 and 2)

@Sanguine Yeah, I get that since you enjoyed the stories. I prefer minimalism in my stories sometimes, which is why I preferred Borderlands 1. My co-op partners always talked over the story bits in Borderlands 2, so it was something that didn't really do much for me when I played it. It's nice that you were able to enjoy it, but it was really an afterthought for me due to those circumstances lol. I didn't really notice much of a different in the combat between 1 and 2 honestly haha, but I think it's because of the way I played it with my friends at the time. I did play a fuck ton of Borderlands 1 though lolol. But yeah, it's great that you were able to appreciate Borderlands 2 for all that it had to offer. I think it just happened to be a social game I played with my friends at the time that prevented me being able to enjoy it as much.

I get where you're coming from in terms of if the open world has good content, I immediately think about The Witcher 3 when you mentioned that. However, I feel that most open world games don't put in the effort to provide content that's really that great. For example, Ghost of Tsushima's side content is pretty boring for me. The writing is your usual honor centered Samurai storyline with little unique going for it and the gameplay plays out the same for most encounters. There's only a few open worlds that I really like since I feel that most of them don't respect my time. Oh that's pretty funny haha! I've actually never been able to finish a Bethesda game despite all my efforts! I think at its core, since we grew up on different games, we have very different tastes haha. Ah yeah, Minecraft has it's appeal, especially for the younger audience. Yeah, The Last of Us really depends on your taste. I have a lot of issues with it that left a bad impression on me along with the way people have overhyped it for me prior to playing it. The gameplay is like a third person shooter with survival mechanics and stealth. It is a continuous linear story, so you usually won't be suddenly jumping from scenario to scenario, but it happens on occasion. My biggest issue with it is more on the story to be honest, but the gameplay was largely unremarkable for me as well.

Yeah that makes sense. Speaking of Dark Souls, which one is your favorite? I just beat Dark Souls II for the second time today haha! Yeah I'm sure you can handle those games, I just feel like they aren't that worth playing in a sense since they are very rudimentary, but I'm also playing FF1, so I do understand tackling them haha

Ahah, yeah I suppose we have. Ive never played Ghost of Tsushima, ive seen a few bits and pieces of it and thought it was kind of similar to Sekiro...but perhaps a little easier. I might play it one day and if I do, I'll tell you what I thought of it. Who knows, maybe I will agree with you. I do agree that some open world games are a big nothing burger though some of those games I think thats the point hehe. Like for example Death Stranding, thats basically just "walking simulator" but people have said that game is one of the greatest of all time. But I suppose, just some open world games just might be a bit overwhelming for some people as they have to spend way more time then most other games trying to do everything it has to offer in it. Which...for most of them, unless your willing to do what I did for Kingdoms of Amalur and spend wayyyy too many hours going to every single location in the entire game, very much will take up many months of your life. So probably dont do that. The way I do it, is that I have a few set systems for how I handle open world games. If its small for an open world and has markers, start with the most important stuff like fast travel points (like in breath of the wild), establish your pathing. Then, start outwards and go inwards from there from left to right. If its pretty big and got many places you can go and explore and need to be discovered, fuck that shit, just find as many sidequests as you can and do them, saving main quest for last. Then for open world games I already know practically the entire layout of the world, just kind of chill and go to places I know and do every quest I know whilst perhaps trying to explore any new stuff I haven't yet (This is usually Bethasda games). What Bethasda games have you played? I'm very interested lol. Pretty much every Bethasda game I have played, I know where a lot of things after my first time round and then I might replay them here and there and just progressively build on that knowledge. I dont know why I just find them so enjoyable to play. Some of them are laughable buggy messes like Oblivion and then others are just great like Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim. Yeah I'll have to see for the Last of Us, they kind of remind me of the newer Tomb Raider games in terms of gameplay style which I wasn't exactly a fan of the first time around. But...I suppose I never know, I'll have to try it myself I guess hehe but thanks for the information.

Yeah I understand, its just...my thought process and me trying things out even though I know its not gonna be the greatest thing in the world. Its partly the gamer in me that wants to travel back in time to play and see these games and the "I have to do everything in order" mindset sort of thing lol. As for Dark Soul games or soulsborne games in general....uhhhh, I say "any dark soul boss", Ive never beaten any of the games yet but I did start Dark Souls 1 and beat quite a few of the bosses before stopping and accidently picking something else up. But in terms of soulsborne games I'm looking forward to, Dark Souls 3, Seriko, Bloodborne and Elden Ring I'm looking forward to the most. Its just one of those series where "I'm gonna get there one day!....After all the other games ive got to play and when there's 5 more in the series since Ive said this." lol. I have heard that Dark souls 1 is like, the classic and its pretty good...and then I dont hear anything about dark souls 2 like its the forgotten middle child that keeps on getting B's compared to his elder and younger siblings A+'s.

@Sanguine Haha I was making a similar comparison between Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima a few months ago! I'm much more of a Sekiro kind of guy than a Ghost of Tsushima guy to be honest. The sheer focus on cool combat in Sekiro appeals a lot more to me than Ghost of Tsushima's typical open world approach. Ah I feel like Death Stranding doesn't fall in the same open world stuff because of how it avoids doing the typical Ubisoft-esque generic open world style, but I still need to play it one of these days haha. Yeah I think doing everything in an open world game is too much for me lol. Oh wow, that's crazy! Did you enjoy doing that in Kingdoms of Amalur? Ah I see, your approach to open world games makes sense. I also establish my pathing but then after that, I just wander around checking things off. Funny thing is I played a good amount of them and none of them really clicked! I started with Oblivion back in the day, then I played FO3, Skyrim, FO4, and even some New Vegas. I think the big hurdle for me is the Western RPG style since it's so big and explorable that I lack direction, which is what I'm really used to. Ah yeah it does have design similarities to the modern TR games.

Ah yeah that makes sense, I do that sometimes too lol. Ahh I see, you've got a lot of good stuff to look forward to! I'm really enjoying my 2nd playthrough of all these From Soft games. Yeah, DS2 is a pretty weirdly designed game that does a lot of questionable stuff.

Yeah I need to play Death Stranding two lol. Funnily enough, I actually got the game for free I just have been too busy to play it hehe. I hear you have to invest a lot of hours into it and it kind of is open world but at the same time not really. You can take any direction you want whilst delivering things but its not like say Skyrim where its littered with other side quests I dont think, I think its a bit different...maybe. I dont really know much about it, all I know is its walking simulator and your just delivering things in a somehow enjoyable sense lol and its very different then your usual game and one of my best friend considers it one of their all time favourites.

Kingdoms of Amalur is a little complicated in my opinion and unfortunately these days you have to purchase a buggy mess from what im hearing (They made a remaster and got rid of the original from the Steam store which is kind of stupid, the remaster is more expensive and honestly doesn't really do much. I'm not entirely sure, I just know that it was bad and I'm lucky I still have my original copy). But as for my opinion, its got some really great points to it. I love its combat system and a lot of its areas are pretty cool, its story is also pretty awesome. I think it does the RPG system quite well, in terms of you can be a stealthy rogue type or an OP mage or a mixture of both. Its...when it gets towards the end that it starts to fizzle out. The areas are less filled out and there are less quests and it can be buggy, which tells me that they had to release the game early before they could finish it. The ending and final boss is alright but I feel like the mechanics and everything could have been fleshed out a lot more. The DLC's are also not bad. For someone like you who doesnt like open world games, I think this will be a bit more easier on you as its not like one giant area like Breath of the Wild, its a bit more controlled, you have different smaller areas that are all connected to each other and on your local map you can only see these smaller areas whilst you can switch it to the bigger map. Its a much more relaxed and contained open world game then most which is why I decided I would spend the time to explore everywhere. Whether or not you should play it? Thats up to you buddy hehe. Its a pretty good game overall

I could go all day listing reasons why Bethasda games are good and why I love them. Out of all the games, which do you think you got the furthest into before stopping?

Its got like 40 something bosses in it two and most are humanoid which I find quite strange. It also lowers your maximum HP from what I heard from which im not looking forward to. Though I think the thing that threw me off in dark souls one is that I find it hard to know where to go. I had just beaten the most annoying boss, the one in the small room with 2 dogs in it and by that time, I was literally following a guide of where to go (Just the where to go bit and any items that are nearby, the bosses and enemy's I skip over). Another thing is, I'm kind of unsure how to make a proper build in those game lol. I think I was investing into health and dex and I was using a sword and shield as I heard it was pretty good...and I think if I had to choose thats how I would play anyway. I am gonna go back to the souls games eventually, I think there somewhere a little further down in my list in which im absolutely gonna focus on them. But as a From Soft fan who has played these games, what advice can you give me?

@Sanguine Yeah for sure, I get that. We've got too many games to play haha! Yeah I'm curious about it too, but I'm going to try to finish Kojima's older works first. I don't really know people who personally like the game, so that's interesting. I'm usually not a fan of walking sims, but Death Stranding seems to be a unique take on that along with its open world design.

Oh that's too bad that they gave us a buggy remaster! I remember being interested with the game way back when it originally came out and Totalbiscuit was covering it on his Youtube channel! Sounds like the best course of action for playing the original now is either having an original PC copy or playing it on an older console haha! Seems like I also have Kingdoms of Amalur on my EA Play account! Ah yeah, games fizzling out towards the end is pretty classic, even the Souls darling, Dark Souls 1 fizzles out towards the second half unfortunately haha! Hmm the game definitely sounds more up my alley, I'll download it right now and I'll post a review when I eventually beat it. Thanks!

Ah yeah, I get that, I've spoken to my good friend about Bethesda games and he's gone over a lot of the points to me. I've been trying to get into them for ages, but I can never stick to it for some reason. That's a good question! I think I got the furthest in Oblivion and Fallout 3, but specifically because they were the first of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games I'd ever tried out so there was a novelty to them that appealed to me more initially.

Hmmm I don't really count bosses haha! A lot of bosses are humanoid since they're like knights and stuff. Most of their best bosses are humanoid knights, the developers designed those the best! I just beat a boss yesterday considered to be the hardest fight in the game and it was a knight boss haha! The health lowering thing is very similar to Dark Souls 1's humanity feature and it can be mitigated in Dark Souls 2 by using the Ring of Binding found pretty early in the game, so it's not too bad. Ah yeah for sure, Dark Souls is vague about stuff like that and often does become a guide game haha! That's why I prefer Demon's Souls and Bloodborne in that regard. They're more linear and more direct in their designs. Oh builds aren't too bad, though admittedly I also follow internet advice for most of it. (Especially in Dark Souls 2 because of adaptability)

In terms of advice, I'll say that everyone has a particular Souls game that's going to appeal to them. For example, I prefer aggressive combat that involves dodging and parrying quick enemy attacks, so Bloodborne is the Souls game that I really enjoy. If one of the Souls games doesn't particularly appeal to you, a different one will probably be more your cup of tea, so if one of them doesn't really appeal to you, you'll probably find one that really clicks with you later. Along with that, I'd say that you shouldn't be afraid to try different things and look things up online if you need to. I used to be the extra hardcore Souls player that would avoid using items at all costs and it made the game a lot harder than it needed to be. Nowadays, I use items like resins or bombs and it makes the game a lot more enjoyable to me. And finally, the games are all about having the perseverance to achieve great things, so at the core of things, you need to put in a certain amount of dedication to the games to do well and have a good time. Once you beat a few of the games, coming back to them will be a lot easier and you'll have a much smoother time. Even new game has it's own unique twist to the formula that adds a unique depth of challenge to the Soul's experience, so you'll need to adapt to whatever they throw your way. (I found that the hard way with Sekiro lol) I hope you have fun with them when you get the chance to play them! I'll be sure to read your reviews of them when you write them!

Yeah its definitely somewhere in my list, I might do a you as well and play Metal Gear 4 and 5 before Death Stranding. Im not entirely sure what to expect either, my friend just told me it was extremely good and has a fantastic story, so even if it is a walking sim, its definitely worth a play.

Yeah have fun. Its not a bad game by any means and perhaps they have made some fixes to the remaster Idk, I think I gave it 3 and a half or 4 stars on my review. Let me know what you think of it.

Fair enough, I'll spare you going over the points again. I personally love Fallout New Vegas and Oblivion the most. Even if Oblivion looks and is wacky in some places, I think it adds a layer of charm to it. I'm currently playing it in fact and I just love everything about it still. The questlines, the music, the awkward NPC interactions, the beauty of the world itself and I cant wait to get to the Shivering Isles DLC, that DLC is like the Tiny Tina DLC for Borderlands 2, its worth playing Oblivion just for that DLC, its bonkers. Fallout New Vegas, I will admit, it takes a bit to get into the game. It starts out really slow especially for those who aren't open world fans and many quit just before getting to where it starts getting good. I personally found it starts getting good when you get to Novac and all the wacky quests start to appear but others have said its when you get to The Strip. But yeah, with all its DLC's and everything within that game as well as its lore and just sheer roleplaying how the hell you want (You can literally kill anyone you want in that game, no one is marked as invincible), its one of my favourite games of all time. But yeah, keep trying buddy. You just gotta stick with it till the end and it will pay off.

Aw thanks buddy! Thats some great advice and its good to know that even souls veterans like yourself end up looking up information from time to time. Yeah I'll definitely be back on it soon. And its not like I disliked the first dark souls game, I actually was getting to enjoy it, I love its combat and the challenge it presented. It was more just "where the fuck do I go" "how do I do this" "am I making the right build or have the right gear?" I think what I'm gonna do when I go back to it is, I'm gonna start a brand new playthrough since Ive kinda lost touch with the original one and im gonna read a few guides about it for builds, I'm definitely gonna go for weapon and shield because I think thats just how im gonna roll. And then as I go through the game, I'm gonna look up a guide of where to go as I beat up everything. Though as you said before, I sort of know a little of where I need to go at the start as I have already played up to the Capra Demon and beaten that. Also just saying...in a way, the bethasda games are kind of like that in a way, once you have played through it once, you know pretty much your way around and what to do. And every time you play through it, you just build on that knowledge more and more.

@Sanguine Ah yeah, that makes sense, I think it's cool to see Kojima's progression leading up to Death Stranding! I really wanna start MGS2 soon! I just keep getting distracted haha! I just tried out Helldivers 2 and it's really enjoyable how polished the game feels!

Ah okay, thanks! Yeah, sounds good! It's so easy to get flooded with too many games going on at the same time though haha

Interesting! I'm so used to people praising either Morrowind or Skyrim, but rarely do people even mentioned Oblivion! I did see that it had a special charm to it that the other Bethesda games didn't have at all. Oh okay, yeah, it's definitely in my plans! Which one is the easiest to being with? I want to beat one first so I can get into the groove of things. Never beating a Bethesda game makes it feel difficult to get through in a sense. That is neat that you can kill anyone you'd like in those games! Reminds me of Deus Ex or something.

No problem! Yeah, I've even looked stuff up recently for Dark Souls 2 DLC! (Some of that stuff is really frustrating lmao) Starting a new playthrough is a good idea! The game steadily teaches you different things so it's nice to go through it all in a single playthrough and all. It is also good to look into different builds and stuff to understand what stats are important as well as their caps. Let me know when you get back on the Dark Souls train! (I'm currently working my way through DS2's 2nd DLC!) Ah I see, that's encouraging! I plan to play some more Bethesda games some time this year if I don't get distracted by other games lol

What I really want to do soon with Helldivers is play it with my friends since before Christmas we had a weekly gaming session between 3 or 4 of us and Ive seen Helldivers with multiplayer and it looks like merry chaos haha. Yeah you need to play MGS2, it is a freaking journey. Its turns what you know of MGS and turns it on its head...then turns it on its head again. Its got a lot of twists and turns thats for sure and its a brilliant game. My advice for getting on with it, push everything else away and focus on one or add them to your list here and focus on them one at a time like I do. Ive tried to do multiple games at a time and it just never works, as evident by Darksouls and so many other victims hehe.

Well its only Fallout New Vegas you can kill anyone, Fallout New Vegas is just special in its roleplaying aspects (As in, I think they do it the best in that game). The easiest one to beat...thats a tricky question to answer. If we are talking in terms of difficulty and complicated game mechanics. I would say Skyrim is probably your easiest one, its the first Bethasda game I ever beat and the one I spent the most hours on. It really depends on how you play two, I dont recommend on going on the highest difficulty if your one of those people who always play on hard mode or higher. Otherwise that could definitely contribute to your "never finishing factor" lol. But I'm gonna assume you play on normal the first time playing games. If we are accounting DLC's, its on regular normal difficulty and the game mechanics. I would say from easiest to hardest is Skyrim, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Fallout 4, Morrowind (Because its the oldest, its got very unique mechanics as in you have to level up your proficiency in order to actually fight anything...also you cant fast travel in that game, you have to go everywhere on foot), Fallout New Vegas (It may be the best in terms of Roleplaying...but dear god, some sections are borderline darksouls, the DLC's especially, the DLC's are great but there some of the toughest DLC's Bethasda have to offer). I wont be going over Fallout 1 and 2, Elder Scrolls Arena or Daggerfall since ive never played them and I cant imagine your focusing on them much since they truly are you can go any direction and get lost very easily. So yeah, I would say Skyrim is the least hardest and its middle of the road in terms of map size I think. Though if your really struggling to get through the game, just focus on the main story. The main story compared to other Bethasda games is very easy and level dependant (As in even if your at a low level, the bosses and enemy types will be adjusted to make things fair), you shouldn't have any trouble with it. That way, even if you havent done all the cool possible sidequests or faction quests at least you can say you have beaten the main game hehe.

Will do, thanks a lot for the advice again. I am very much looking forward to getting back into it eventually though it could be a long while since I have soooo many games to play lmao. Yeah I have heard that the Dark souls 2 DLC's are pretty unforgiving hehe. I think Dark souls 2 is the one im least looking forward to but still looking forward to if that makes sense

@Sanguine Yeah Helldivers is good fun with friends. I just finished a session of it just now. I might start MGS2 during the weekend, we'll see haha. Yeah I do that too, it's easy to lose track of what you're playing if you're not just focusing on a single game lolol.

Ah I see, yeah I did hear that New Vegas did RPG mechanics and storytelling particularly well, so that makes sense. I think I used to play them on Normal mode. I can imagine playing it on hard being part of the never finishing factor. Yeah Skyrim was pretty big for getting in new players into Bethesda games back in the day, so that makes sense. Ah okay, maybe I should try to just beat Skyrim's main story one of these days lol. Thanks for the info, I'll keep it in mind.

No problem! Yeah, we're both swamped with too many games to play lol. DS2 is pretty grindy in some sense, I just farmed a bunch of knights to access one of the DLC bosses. Pretty annoying stuff lol. Yeah that makes sense. It's a great series, but DS2 has less appeal than most of them in my opinion.
