playing this because zeldalike with a furry on the cover and realizing real quick i've been tricked into playing "riven: the sequel to myst, with soulslike elements" which means for most people who are not me it's probably really good!
it seems like the combat does seem to be a sticking point for many of those who do like this anyways, and i have considered switching on assist mode, but i am still thinking that this is still probably too cryptic for me :(
im sad this sort of "figure everything out from fundamentals" game doesnt really do anything for me. outer wilds was ultimately enjoyable but even that was pushing it in terms of dangling stuff in front of your face and mocking you for not knowing what it is, i definitely prefer something like obra dinn where you're given a really daunting interlocking puzzle but the actual end objective is very clear, and also has a lot of small composite parts you can easily chip away at early to not get discouraged. i still maybe might try this again in a while with assist on and with a refreshed, more open mind but im not planning on it any time soon

im kinda deluding myself putting this here and not on the abandoned list but i do hope i come back to this someday, but i think i kinda hate 2d platformers now. and even though this seemed better than most i still wasnt really able to get into it, maybe someday i'll be receptive to them again

Much like IGN infamously did with Sky, I think I need to just drop this one for the time being. I was expecting a much different game than the original Explorers, but the story has been nearly exactly the same with a few minor tweaks (non-silent protag, and some scenes that definitely foreshadow some future stuff). I just don't know that I have it in me right now to trudge through all the bloat every PMD seems to start with, this one especially included since I don't even know if or when these bits of foreshadowing are even going to pay off. Will likely return to it in due time but I'm just not really feeling a whole-ass 3rd PMD2 replay right now, and that's what the first 3-4 hours of this game have really felt like for me.

this is one of those games that's so popular in my kinda gaming crowds that i feel like i have to go back to it Eventually but im sorry an hour in and its just so boring. sure they got rid of item combining from the adventure game format but your walk speed is again far too slow and the story ive seen so far is too sparsely delivered and full of non sequiturs. convinced this is a "vibes" game much like the shining is a "vibes" movie. i dont like the shining

what the fuck is even happening the dungeon crawl stuff is boring as hell and the story is just confusing

will probably force myself through the back half of it at some point down the line but im just absolutely clueless

played like the first level of this with a friend and the controls were ass (i played re4 on a wii for context) so i didnt wanna go back to it the next time he asked and then a year passed

i haven't formally dropped this one in my mind but i also haven't played it in like a year so i should probably put it here. not bad by any means, i just got sidetracked with other stuff and just didn't care enough to go back after clearing the snow area
