got so into the hostess bar minigame that i never finished it, but this game is Cool imo

2018

there's almost nothing to criticise about this but its also still never gonna be my Favourite Game Ever, just because it's so clean and well put-together. i prefer a messier game sorry. thats a stupid criticism but this is my account and also its still 4.5 stars so can't be mad.

i don't mind bugs at all (bugs are cool) but Damn the writing in this is dogshit lmao. none of the characters are interesting or well-realised! i stopped playing pretty quickly when they killed off a guy with a big sad scene and a funeral and i realised i didnt give a shit at all and was actually glad he would now stop bugging me. a very bad sign for a video game.

seems cool i guess but i dont like clicking things

pretty fun CS clone with annoying 2010s comic book character design. whole thing reeks of the algorithm and no matter how many hours i spend enjoying a game like this i'm still gonna mark it down for feeling cynical.

robert yang is one of the most talented game developers who's ever lived. everything he touches is that solid gold mix of funny and sexy and silly and satirical. very happy to be able to mark this as Mastered.

something eerie about the timing of the loss of hope for britain in 2019 and the release of a true game as art in British LAds Hit Each Other With Chairs: A Bitsy Retelling

there are two ways to enjoy this game: as a serious, emotional story of a father looking for his kidnapped son (not recommended) or as a big pile of ridiculous sub-Saw bullshit full of unintentionally hilarious moments (also not recommended).

obviously completely horrible (its a david cage game) but at least he was having fun on this one. sentient internet? witches? baffling french racism? what more could you want. a lot more actually but still.

one of the best games ever made and a perfect time capsule for everything that was Cool in the 90s. you can feel the developer ambition straining against the flimsy walls of the technology, and some of its best bits are when it actually sort of fails and fucks up a bit, breaks a little, doesn't quite execute what it was aiming for. that's the type of charming you just don't get on major games so much any more.

i spent most of the time playing this making my own clothes in the editor and honestly i got so much delight out of that that it was all worth it. i normally sort of hate kitchen sink games which throw a thousand things at you and tell you to make your own fun - it feels like devs throwing money at the problem of not having a coherent vision - but this is the exception, i think, bc it's all so tied to that central theme of cosiness and warmth. plus it came out early in lockdown so i played it with all my friends and that's, yknow, thats what we really needed right then.

i liked dating everyone very much

honestly it's flawless. the type of game that makes you want to make games.

well-executed version of a simple concept. can't complain.
