Doom II is easily the weakest in the series imo. Nothing is really improved from the first entry and often it's actually made worse. The level design goes from interesting and sometimes clever to absolute dogshit (I don't think there's a single Petersen level I enjoyed). The final boss is a complete joke in that regard.
Music still bangs tho and the super shotgun is by far the best weapon in the franchise.

Awful game.
- Horrendous pacing: You spend half the time talking nonsense, walking through infinite corridors in dungeons, and solving elementary school puzzles.
- Terrible writing and voice acting: The dialogues are filled with excessive, unwanted exposition. Every character feels the need to have an opinion and tell you about their entire life. The main character talks like a robot, and most voice actors act like they're just reading a script.
- Combat is completely braindead: You just spam attacks at enemies and occasionally click the dodge button. There's zero depth to it.
- Useless side content: The game is filled with side activities that make zero sense. Why would I complete an entire quest for a character I absolutely do not care about, just for a cosmetic item? Or pop stupid ass balloons in the air?
- Fake RPG elements: This is the icing on the cake. Every AAA release nowadays feels the need to add this stupid nonsense to give a false sense of progression to players and artificially manipulate difficulty. See that level 30 enemy? It will one-shot you, and you will deal zero damage to it unless you are at the same level. Gear doesn't matter. You will have to grind for stupid, useless items because if the game doesn't last at least 70 hours, it's not worth the asking price. Who cares about a tightly paced game with interesting gameplay and mechanics, right?
Graphics are good, and the animals are cute, though

Swinging is very very good in this one, unfortunately not much else is improved. The combat in particular feels way less good and the villains are a big resident sleeper. It serves the purpose of being an origin story tho and I'm excited to see what they have in store for the next one. Don't buy it full price.
