Early on I felt like this was just too casual and twee for my tastes, which I guess is probably the right answer, but by the end it was so unalloyedly casual and twee that I was honestly wondering if it was targeted exclusively at children. There is not even a moment of any kind of mechanical or narrative bite here. I guess if you're into this specific kind of very gentle humor then it could be very charming but it is not for me.
It's better than the first game in some respects (the spooky forest atmosphere is lovely, for one thing) but unfortunately the same trading quest puzzle returns, and this time has a hidden object fetch quest choke point that makes it more obvious how aggressively linear it is. It's not that linearity is a bad thing, but the first game gave you access to the magnet before you'd talked to anyone, and instead the pies here are a fetch quest where your reward is the start of the set of trades.
More than anything I think the game coasts on charm, and I just don't find it that charming. Maybe I just don't have the stomach for twee, or maybe it's that the game just feels a bit too Tender Frog House to me. It's not the creators' fault how people respond, but I'm still allowed to be vaguely frustrated with the ~everything should be "wholesome"~ discourse that this series is probably used as a prop in. Does color my view a bit.

Frog Detective 2 is a pretty mediocre visual novel/walking sim about a frog that is also a detective.
It's not really much of a game at all to be honest, there are 2 decisions within it's entire runtime, one of which is where to place stickers on your detective notebook, and it lacks any sort of traditional gameplay. I'm not boring enough to think these sorts of experiences are without merit but I do think that they have to support themselves with some exceptional writing. On that front, frog detective is occasionally charming but generally a little too quirky for my taste.
The visuals are nice and the music's fitting even if the setting lacks a lot of variety.
Overall, I'm really interested in linear narrative game experiences and I wish that this was more fulfilling but right now frog detective could use a little more actual detective work in it's series.

Even though the first game in this series did not really impress me, I decided to give the sequel a shot since I got it from a bundle. The sequel definitely improves over the first game by providing new features such as a notebook to keep track of your progress, interrogations and clues; as well as a longer playtime (takes over an hour to beat the game and there are choices to get different endings). Just like the first game, this is a very simple mystery solving game with simple graphics and gameplay, very well suited for younger audiences.
The dialogue and humor is improved over the first game but didn't really do much for me, but decided to give it a thumbs up since it's improved over the first one. Ending implies there will be a third Frog Detective game coming out.

Frog detective 2 is a masterpiece, has all the charm, personality and comedy from the first game but also introduces new concepts! The addition of the journal was small but also an amazing and fun little way to keep notes. Characters are also amazing with personalities and the addition of the interior of the houses was small but also a good way to add character. This game doesn't just improve on the first but adds more choice and ways to interact and would highly recommend it! 10/10 and I cant wait for the 3rd!
Slightly better than the first Frog Detective game in my opinion, though they're so close to one another in practically every regard that fans of the first will like this, and those who didn't won't have their minds changed at all by this. Basically another romp through a goofy cartoon episode with this lovely blend of self-aware yet unabashedly silly humour and character writing, though the extra bits and pieces this one adds, especially the notebook, make this feel like a more polished, streamlined experience to some extent, along with having an additional avenue to throw even more comedy into the mix. I would gladly pay for and play another 20 entries of this series, it's so fun and refreshing.
