Really enjoyed this game. Story is amazing :D

Crashed on me in a late mission and I just never went back. Thought it was pretty good until I played Doom Eternal, which I realize now it's basically a trial run for.

Might be the worst open world in gaming.

I do not know who asked for a sequel to RAGE but I wish they did not do that

So many technical issues consistent sound issues on Xbox, a lifeless open world no interest in the story. The only good thing about the game is the gun play.

What a nothing game with a good shotgun

The plot, setting, characters, and many of the gameplay elements are about as generic as it gets, but Rage 2 still manages to be an absolute blast to play.

I played the first game. But this game is cool in the first hours, but turns out the game is repetitive, albeit having variety of landscape. (The first RAGE was mostly brown, grey mish-mash thing) Interesting and cool upgrades though.

If literally anybody other than shitty ass Avalanche Studios wrote the story and made the open world, this game might have been really good. But alas, we aren't allowed to have nice things. So we're stuck with the Just Cause devs flopping their limp chodes around.

Combat is phenomenal though, thanks Id... wish y'all would have made the whole game.

Richtig so!

Most of what I experienced in Rage 2 is baffling to me. The first time I played this game, I only made it 20 minutes in before I had to close it due to the worst case of secondhand embarrassment I've ever experienced. For some reason, I did come back.

Every single line, every individual plot point of this story is like it was written by two 12-year-olds after marathoning the Transformers movies and watching someone else play two hours of DOOM.

Games like this reveal to me that it's relatively easy to stumble into greatness with a game that strips away the "fluff" that comes with your typical AAA game. Just Cause 2 kicked ass because it seemed like it cared about its story less than the player even did, and after playing this (and the post-2010 Just Cause games) I'm starting to believe that Avalanche just doesn't know how to make a "conventional" game.

I don't know what I expected from the guys who made the Mad Max video game but here we are.

A sorely misunderstood game. This is as fun as open world shooters come, the game cuts no corners to make you feel like the most powerful mercenary known to man. The story is not good but who cares? It's a game co-made by Id, what did you expect?

Absolutely incredible gunplay, meh everything else. Good podcast game!

At the beginning you think: "It's not that bad" "Awesome shooter feeling".
But after 30min you realize that's it, you have seen everything.
I don't understand why even the handful of main missions weren't worked out better...

I forced myself to finish this game and I really didn't enjoy it. Awful open world and honestly this game lost everything which I loved about the original. Also the framerate was horrendous of PS4, especially when opening up the pause menu...for real? Had multiple game crashes even months after the game was patched.

Honestly the problems with RAGE 2 mirror it’s predecessor in so many ways. A completely lifeless open world, bland mission design, a dull story & a lot of technical issues on console. BUT the gunplay is extremely satisfying & the game never ceases being enjoyable despite its flaws.

If you want a fun shooter you can grind out while you listen to podcasts RAGE 2 is a great option.

Extremely disappointing game that is worse than the original Rage in just about every way. Shotgun feels good tho

Gameplay

Was hoping for some fun action and was only partially happy with Rage 2. Unfortunately, the game lacks the important components (weapons, skills, etc.) a lot of depth and scope. I would have liked to be able to pimp up my own action right here, with simple skill and weapon fireworks. It could have simply been more skills and, above all, different ways of combining and playing them out. The setting here would have allowed a whole range of skills.

I would also have wished for the modding of weapons to be much more weighty and thus the possibility to design the different types of weapons in a unique way and thus make them more interesting. The open world is covered up with the same side tasks over and over again, but which are not really interesting. Individual random moments liven up the game world but are also quickly exhausted.

The main missions around the tank rides were very fun.

story

Actually I didn't expect anything here, rather it was exactly what it should be. The story didn't interest me and couldn't arouse my interest over the entire distance. Individual trashy dialogues were entertaining, I would have loved to have had more of them.

technology

Sometimes the game looks pretty nice. The many colors and explosions make a great presentation on the screen. But that's about it, otherwise the characters in particular are very pretty on the surface, but ultimately much too stiff. Almost nothing stirs during the dialogue (facial expressions and gestures are in short supply).

I also had some glitches and bugs. There were a lot of graphic errors and some mistakes in the missions. The FPS were mostly stable, but they also had their wobbles.

Conclusion

The game is very short (focused on the main missions) and has its fun moments. If you approach it with the right expectations, you can have a little fun but not more. Too many opportunities were given away to deliver a pure action party. 2.5/5 Boomers.

Gameplay

2.5/5 Boomer.

The original Rage was a competent shooter fueled by the genre veterans at id, but as lifeless as the barren wasteland it was set in. A kickass shotgun and impressive AI can only carry a game so far. Instead of desiccating in the desert heat, id partnered with Avalanche Studios to inject some of its signature style into the sequel, Rage 2. While its pink spray paint and ‘tude ends up being superficial window dressing, Rage 2 is a deeper, more fast-paced shooter that can hang with other genre heavyweights despite the mediocre world it is trapped in.

Borderlands with the pacing of GTA. Takes way too long to get to an area and fast travel was far and few between.

Did you already forget this game existed?

It's really not good.
Pros:
The guns feel good
Graphics are solid

Cons:
Everything else

The story is bad but tried too hard to be good. What could be fun in a cheesy way ends up just being cringy

The "open world" sucks. It's a big stretch of uninteresting desert between uninteresting set pieces with driving that feels off. The gameplay loop isn't fun, and there's nothing that keeps me interested. If you want a Bethesda shooter play literally anything else.

Way better than the first one that's for sure.

guns felt fine, about the nicest thing I can say about this dismally vapid product

A very fun arcadey FPS game placed in a very colorful and fun mad max-esque world. The open world RPG aspects are fun and a great way to give the player agency in the story, but it does start to feel repetitive or grindy at time.

Amazing combat that kept me engaged the entire game.

Everything else however, drained me. The story was extremely uninteresting, the driving was fun at first but quickly lost its appeal, searching areas for little pink boxes got annoying very quickly, and to top it all off the final scene was laughably bad. An uninteresting ending followed by one of the most hilariously placed cut-to-credits in not only video games but media in general.

Overall, a great FPS, a not so great everything else. I'd say its plenty worth it if you liked the original. If not, then its not worth it at all.
