Man, I forgot how fun Uncharted games are. Loved Chloe and Nadine in this one, I wouldn’t mind getting full games with them in the future since Nathan’s story is complete.

Pretty good because of Sam Drake, otherwise kinda meh. The pacing was odd and the open-world section felt out of place, but otherwise a really good game with familiar mechanics and a fun story.

The best Uncharted game and you're a sexist if you disagree

Chloe's ass is back in all its glory.

Even without Drake, Uncharted has potential.

Let Chloe and Nadine kiss you cowards.

Conclusion:
The Lost Legacy is honestly really great. It was built on the engine of Uncharted 4, and acts as an expansion to that world; a side experience that’s similar to Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales. Unsurprisingly, nearly everything that made Uncharted 4 amazing is present here. The graphics are jaw dropping, and the voice-acting and facial animations continue to wildly impress. The witty banter between the characters also follows, which is always appreciated. The gameplay is where things get interesting. Almost everything is the same from 4, except for lock-boxes. These boxes introduce a nice risk-reward system, and in the middle of gunfights, you sometimes have to choose whether it’s worth it to see what’s inside. Honestly, I wish they were in 4. Plus, Chapter 4 is basically a pseudo open-world (likely a prototype for Last of Us 2). Scattered around the giant area are 11 Hoysala Tokens, which are extremely fun to hunt down. In fact, they each feel like finding Korok Seeds in Breath of the Wild, and I wish there were more. Plus, the reward for getting them all is actually useful, and finally gives incentive to find Treasures without using a guide. Now, the story itself is only fine. The basic structure is interesting enough, but there are a few problems. For one, the villain just isn’t interesting. Asav comes off as just your stereotypical psychopath, which is a bit of a disappointment, coming off of 4’s great villains. Then there’s the fact that Nadine just isn’t as interesting as Chloe. In the other Uncharteds, Drake is great, yes, but he’s balanced by characters who are equally as cool, namely Sully and Elena. Here, Chloe has to do all the heavy lifting in the character department, and it makes me wish that Nadine was developed more. Don’t get me wrong, she’s still more developed here than in 4, but it’s still not great. In summary, The Lost Legacy is honestly really great, if not quite as good as Uncharted 2-4.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a spin off title to the main series starring two returning characters of Chloe Frazer, a half Indian half Australian thief first seen in Uncharted 2 and Nadine Ross a South African mercenary introduced in Uncharted 4. To be honest while excited for the game I wasn't sure how it would fare without series regulars Nate, Elena or Sully but it turns out I shouldn't have worried, if anything I think I enjoyed this game more than Uncharted 4 getting to find out more about both Chloe and Nadine on their own adventure woven into a surprisingly well paced narrative.

The plot is hard to summarize without spoiling too much but essentially you take the role of Chloe who is back in India hunting after a treasure called the horn of Ganesh and has hired Nadine to help her who after Uncharted 4 is a little down on her luck and leapt at the chance for the money. Unfortunately for them India is in the middle of a civil war so things of course are not going to be easy.
I really liked the story, it allows for more depth for these side characters while at the same time having some good twists and moments both funny and emotional at times. The characters play really well off each other and the voice acting is superb throughout with both Claudia Black and Laura Bailey reprising their roles as Chloe and Nadine respectively. Claudia Black especially nails it as Chloe with some excellent subtle nuances in several of the cutscenes really standing out.

For the gameplay if you haven't played an Uncharted game before (and I recommend you do with either the first three games released in the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection or at a push leap in with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End ) then what you need to know is they are third person adventure games with cover based shooting, light platforming and light puzzling. The combat has a good variety of weapons such as handguns, grenades, assault rifles and rocket launchers and has an incredibly smooth melee combat system that is very cinematic. My only gripe with the controls are that roll and take cover are still the same button which has been a problem to me for like ten years where trying to roll through a doorway will latch you onto the nearest wall and get you killed. How has this not been fixed by now?

When you aren't fighting you are exploring old ruins or jungles. The art design for the levels cannot be understated but at times I just stopped and stared, Uncharted The Lost Legacy looks absolutely amazing. Everything about the game from the particles effects, lighting and textures on top of the art design is stunning. The developer Naughty Dog just seem far ahead of almost everyone else when it comes to visuals, seriously impressive. The ruins sometimes have ancient puzzles to beat to progress. While certainly not brain taxing they are a little bit of a step up from previous games in design and quality. I would like to see more variety or difficulty but I enjoyed them for the most part.

Despite being a shorter game released at a budget price there is a surprising amount of content here, my first playthrough took me about eight and a half hours but I was looking around everywhere for hidden treasures and often just enjoying the view. If you rush through it you could beat it in six hours I should think. I would put it akin to the original Uncharted in length. It also comes with Uncharted 4's multiplayer on disc as well as the recent co-op survival mode you can play with both Lost Legacy and Uncharted 4 players which is a nice touch. Getting the platinum, finding all optional conversations and treasures are also nice reasons to replay the story. All this at a launch price of £25? Fantastic value.

In conclusion, this is a great game. If you like Uncharted and want something more then this is perfect for you. It fits in well after the previous games, looks and sounds amazing and is great value for money content wise in my opinion. I would happily buy a Lost Legacy 2 starring Chloe and Nadine if Naughty Dog were inclined to make it.

Recommended.

+ Chloe and Nadine are great characters with an evolving relationship.
+ Excellent voice acting and music.
+ The visuals and art are outstanding.
+ Fantastic value for money.

- Roll and take cover are the same button still. Why?

the best the uncharted series ever had to offer

Finished: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (2017) | 4.0/5.0
Developers: Naughty Dog

This was a fun weekend playthrough, but I regret exploring such a strong entry in Naughty Dog’s catalog far sooner. “Lost Legacy” may be more of an extension of 4 in terms of raw gameplay, but it’s combination of clever puzzles and ND’s signature writing and voice work made this truly work on its own, and god DAMN I love these characters.

What works:
I absolutely love what they’ve done with Chloe. She was always the “hot girl” to Drake in the mainline series, and despite being charming and funny, she did lack the depth of Elena who ended up stealing his heart in the end. I’m sure it helped keep the competition between the two down to a minimal, but it was pretty obvious who had the legs for such a romance. So they really made her “bad girl” persona an inherent character flaw, and it was rewarding seeing her grow and develop through her selfishness over the course of the campaign. Nadine is given far more material here too compared to her appearance in 4, and honestly I found her to be a complete badass.

Puzzles are usually a mixed bag in the series, but they were really fascinating and difficult enough to twist my brain a few times. Shooting is solid and set pieces are what we’ve come to expect from the franchise, but the last chapter revisited a popular train chase from the beloved second game and they completely beefed up the excitement. Hopping convoys and dodging mini guns is enhanced with the grapple hook mechanic from 4 and I was utterly delighted by all the intensity. Stealth is as strong as it ever was, with mistakes being my fault nearly 100% of the time. I’d argue that these portions are more dynamic and tighter than those in Sony’s own Metal Gear Solid franchise, but you all aren’t ready for that conversation.

What doesn’t:
The more open-area design was introduced in the last game, and despite its added versatility in firefights, the less linear environments made me feel like I was constantly shot at from all sides with little ability to ever find good cover. On normal difficulty, I found some sections to be almost brutal and I have no idea how the crushing difficulty will be fun at all. Linearity is not a bad word in my vocabulary, so I would have preferred more encounters with a wall at my back. Similarly, the open world portions with the car felt too much like a chore. Luckily the length of that bit is down to whether or not you want to find all the collectibles.

Overall:
I questioned giving this a higher score for a while there, but the lack of anything truly new makes this more a solid addition to the fourth game than a legendary new entry in the franchise. Naughty Dog’s staple attention to their characters and the writing puts many television shows and movies to shame, and I honestly teared up in a few moments just because I felt so connected to the story being told and the culture they so elegantly explore. A particular moment with elephants left me in awe, and anyone that remembers the giraffes in “Last of Us” know exactly what I’m talking about. This is another winner in Naughty Dog’s repertoire, and I can only hope they revisit this series in the PS5 generation.

Really great game and spin off of the series, both of the main characters really grew on me this game where in their origin games I thought they were just alright. The gameplay isn't anything too different from 4, few new weapons but nothing major. Not my favorite Uncharted but definitely worth checking out.

Glorious chleo and nadine power duo you love to see it

It's basically Uncharted 4 DLC which isn't a bad thing at all. Everything you love about Uncharted is here (except for the main squad obviously). Chloe and Nadine do a serviceable job of replacing Nate and crew although some of the heart and humor is missing. I wouldn't mind seeing the duo return if the OG squad has truly retired.

The Lost Legacy is sort of like if they made Indiana Jones 5, except it starred Sallah and Elsa Schneider instead of Indy, yet it somehow manages to kick all of the ass.

I mean it's more of the same Naughty Dog formula without much radical improvement but it's so incredibly refined and confident at what it accomplishes that it almost doesn't matter. That final act is a doozy and probably the peak at the seamless cinematic excitement these games strive for.

This might be the best Uncharted game for me. What it lacks in Nate's presence and charm, it more than makes up for in far more enjoyable gameplay, mixing up open world exploration segments with the traditional Uncharted jump 'n' swinging. The shorter run-time and tighter pacing is just perfect too.

Good character interaction, motion capture, beautiful environment, and some fun cheats when you beat the game if you replay levels. But the base gameplay still hasn't improved since Uncharted 2, still is using the same dull time wasting environment traversal (you get the scripted handhold breaking and your character falling a little lower maybe 7 times in this game) and shape matching puzzles, movement isn't as fluid as it should be, and this was pretty short. I don't get the narrative obsession in games lately with daddy issues especially when it comes to women (apparently mommy/daddy issues with already a big part of 4 which I haven't played yet which kind of makes it even more cliche). The open world level some people loved was not mechanically interesting, it is a somewhat large space for a game like this and it's pretty but you are just driving around to complete simple puzzles or to get into a short combat encounter, the whole thing is very short if you aren't interested in going around looking for every collectible item or photo opportunity. The actual set piece moments that the series is best at are missing from the level and the ones found in the game in general aren't as interesting as other titles in the series.

The perfect companion piece to Uncharted 4

An excellent spin-off! India was a great setting for a treasure hunt. Surprisingly, the lack of Nathan Drake did not hurt this at all
Definitely want to see more of Chloe's adventures.

A nice spinoff, better than the first Uncharted, but you can tell it was meant to be a DLC that was expanded upon.

The game starts out a bit rough, and the character interactions are stiff in the beginning, but eventually The Lost Legacy finds it's footing and makes for a good Uncharted experience, filled with thrilling platforming, chase scenes, and the casual flirting. While the two main characters don't get together in the end, they at least have great chemistry with one another and really help sent up for future adventures of the two.

Definitely below Uncharted 4, but still a pretty good game overall. I liked that there was a bracelet you could get that tells you when there's a collectible nearby. I didn't 100% this game but if I ever do that would make it easier, and I'm sure it's helpful for people who do 100% the Uncharted games. Of course, I thought it was required and spent a bunch of time finding the amulets for it, but it was fun to do a little more stealth and combat even if it wasn't required to do. Not much to say about this game though being pretty much an average Uncharted game of running around and shooting people, but the stealth is just as good as in 4, and I could still use my precious Mettler M-30. I don't know why I like that gun so much but it's my go-to weapon unless I'm in the multiplayer. The grapple coming back from 4 was also a fun part of the stealth and climbing. The best part of this game though had to be the end sequence, which was by far the best of all the uncharted games.

The next paragraph is gonna be filled with SPOILERS. So turn back if you haven't finished the game and care about spoilers.

So about that end sequence... My god it's amazing. It was like the convoy chase in Uncharted 4 or the caravan chase in Uncharted 3, mixed with the train sequence in Uncharted 2. It has driving up next to the train, throwing guys off the road, blowing up cars, climbing across the train, being a bit stealthy and throwing more people off the train, until you finally reach the bomb. Everything up to this point was a whole lot of fun with a ton of great action and fun gameplay. But then, you can't diffuse the bomb. You can't loosen it from the straps holding it in place, you don't know what to do to stop the bad guy's plan. Then Nadine comes up with something and you're back off the train, driving past it instead of to the front, because the front is welded shut, and you need to throw more people off the road and go to a switch, to divert the train. (I know most of you reading this already have seen or played through this but I'm just ranting about all the great parts of it because it's just such a good end sequence) When you get there you have to kill some guys trying to stop you and you just barely are able to switch the track in time to divert the train. Then you drive back to the train (which is a bit shorter now after breaking one of the links towards the front, which is smart to do before you have to get back on but from the other side, because if the train was longer you would have to wait for the whole thing to pass by and then drive all the way up to the front again. Also it's a really cool part of the sequence as you're doing it. FINALLY The end, where to get back on the train you JUMP FROM A CLIFF IN THE CAR INTO THE SIDE OF THE TRAIN, and then the big bad guy shows up for the final battle. I like that you get to fight him a little earlier in the game just to get a feel for it, and then Chloe and Nadine are teaming up on him for this last chance to stop his plan. It really shows how tough this guy is when he's doing so well against both Chloe and Nadine, especially if you played Uncharted 4 and saw Nadine do the same with Sam and Nate. Oh yeah Sam is also in the game. He doesn't appear till the later end but I like him so it was a good addition to throw him in there. Also you get to see Nadine go from hating him to being kind of ok with him. Last but not least, the credit scene. No spoilers for this and it's only like 30 seconds into the credits, but it's a throwback to the very beginning of the game and it's a nice little moment with everything winded back down. The bad guy is dead and the city is safe. I think this was my longest review and the vast majority was just raving about the end sequence. Honestly this could've been on the level of 4, and the train sequence really brought it close, but the characters, as good as they are, aren't as good as Nate Sully and Elena. If Sully made so much as a cameo I would've been happy though.

Naughty Dog had a real challenge making this game fun to play without the inclusion of Nate or Sully, but they pulled it off very well. The environments again look beautiful and the themes heard in uncharted 4 also return. All the voice actors do an amazing job at bringing the characters to life, as is expected now from a naughty dog game. Apart from a few minor changes, gameplay remains mostly the same as uncharted 4, which isn’t a bad thing, as there are plenty of exciting gunfights and areas for stealth. The combat areas are again more open, meaning there are lots of hiding places to move between and moving between stealth and gunplay is as seamless as it was in uncharted 4. Despite TLLs short length, there is plenty of development for both Chloe and Nadine and their relationship develops nicely over the course of the game. The final set piece’s influences are obvious, with an exciting combination of the car chase scene from uncharted 4 and the train scene from uncharted 2 which finishes the game off strongly. Although the story behind the treasure isn’t quite as compelling as the story of Captain Avery and Libertalia, TLL offers an exciting experience and a fun character driven story that any fan of the uncharted series will be able to enjoy.
