Goddamn. Fantastic game. Story took a few turns that I wasn't expecting (even having beaten Mother and having just absorbed a lot about this game due to being online for twenty odd years). I think my favorite thing about this is the scrolling HP, honestly. It's a great system, and allows for some really fun gameplay. Loved this, cannot wait to play the next one.

On a second attempt, I think I like this even less? The game just feels so bland. I put a dozen hours in and I for the life of me cannot tell you anything that actually happened in that time frame. The game would occasionally feel like Assassin's Creed for maybe two minutes, only to immediately go back to feeling like a generally bad action game. One of the only times I've regretted buying a game digitally.

Just did not grab me at all.

It's a fantastic game and a fantastic sequel, but it feels a bit too "safe" and doesn't ever really reach the heights the first game did.

Off the bat, this game does the same thing Miles Morales did in that it takes away some of your movement options, which is just incredibly not fun. There's no good reason for Peter and Miles to have to relearn how to point launch, and making me do so for the third game in a row is kind of a pain. Same with combat -- while Miles gets most of his venom powers back pretty quickly, you start with no gadgets, and that just feels shitty. In favor of the gadgets I will say that the reduced number of gadgets compared to the first game is a plus. I actually used all of them now, instead of just two or three as I did in the original. Side content is also a lot more hit and miss. There's fewer "challenge" type sidequests (which personally I think was an improvement, but that's a matter of taste), but also fewer engaging sidequests in general. There's some that really stand out, storywise, and a one type that I thought was a lot of fun and I wished there'd been more like that in the main game, but overall, they're pretty meh. Finally, and probably most egregiously, it takes a frustratingly long time before you get the Symbiote. Additionally, once you get it off, Venom's really only around for about three or four hours of gameplay, and that's assuming you do all the side content that unlocks at that point.

Despite all that, it's a genuinely good game. Particularly when it comes to the story: it was great, emotional, and above all, fun. And really, despite all the words I just wrote about the flaws, they're all comparatively minor. The game is a blast to play, and I highly recommend it.

Fun. Kinda meta without being too up its own ass. However, I think the trigger warnings at the start are a bit overblown, and honestly I don't care enough to play a second time to see whatever new content there might be.

Goddamn. This is a fantastic game. Loved every second of it, and I can't wait to go back and try for more routes. Love it.

Solid game. Much better than the predecessor.

Hot take: I'd prefer this game without Ellie's section. Abby's section has a more interesting story, better set pieces, and better characters. Ellie's is just sort of there.

Goddamn. This was fantastic. Loved it.

I accept that I'm not really "good" enough for a lot of the Classicvanias. Even with savestates and NSO's rewind, I got walled at Death and doubt I can make it further. Still, I had a lot of fun with it, and got much further than I expected. Highly recommend.

Meh. Even aside from not really digging the gameplay loop, I played around with every control option and just couldn't find one that actually felt good to play with.

Weird, gay, kinda spooky. Loved every minute of it.

Pretty meh as a sequel, honestly. I loved the first Oxenfree, and this just didn't seem to have any of that going for it. The "mystery" isn't as compelling, and frankly neither are the characters. I liked Alex, Ren, Nona, and the rest. I really don't care for Riley.

I played this once ten years ago and got halfway through before my hard drive melted. Tried to play it for Spooktober this year and got about twenty minutes in before the motion blur that you can't turn off made me nearly vomit. Kind of a bummer. I'm told it gets better later, but that doesn't help if I can't play far enough to get there.

Meh. I remember liking what I played of the original, but this had an annoying distortion effect I couldn't turn off that just gave me a migraine.
