Very well written and charming, but also lacking in the combat mechanics department. I'm more than fine with games that are more book-like, but I was sort of expecting something more mechanically satisfying to sink my teeth into.

Went into this with extremely low expectations. It's a little over-the-top and blunt with its philosophizing, but I still really liked the final ending I got the first time around. I'll probably play it again sometime.

Honestly, I'm just incredibly happy this game exists. A well-polished vision of what Jet Set Radio can be. JSR was the first video game I really loved, but while this is definitely a nostalgia trip for me, it also stands up on its own merits. There's surprising depth to be found in the tricks system, modding in your own graffiti is fun and easy, and the music absolutely bumps.
Also, I'm pretty sure the ost samples Black Panthers (or at least black activists of some stripe, I am not an expert and have no citations to offer you) in at least 2 songs so that's pretty rad.

Hey Borderlands, you're set in sort of a sci-fi rust belt where rampant industrialization and subsequent ecomonic abandonment has driven people to lead lives of total desperation and violence to survive, can I get some type of interesting or thought-provoking politics from you?
Borderlands: haha dude video game references in the video gaaame... fart shit funnyy...
Like, listen, I like cool explosions and laser guns as much as the next person, but you can't just fill your world with a series of mediocre jokes. You need to give me something substantial to latch on to.

It's janky. It's clunky. The devs doen't know what kind of game they want it to be. Neither does the game. It's highly moddable. It's got too much going on, too many greebly little systems that don't really work right and too many conflicting themes and moods vying for your attention. The NPCs are cardboard cutouts lacking the depth of Dwarf Fortress. And yet, C:DDA still manages to be compelling. I probably would not like this game in its current state if the devs were not completely open about how it is not finished yet and that they are actively working on it.

I would sincerely rather watch Cannibal Holocaust; Less racist.

Do you want to watch a subpar obnoxiously centrist outdated parody of news media but with a bunch of tedious nonsense buttons you have to press to avoid annoying buzzer noises? Then this is the game for you.

gets a full extra half star for being absolutely hilarious

Yes, this game is awful in all respects - a barely playable piece of fascist-imperialist propaganda that celebrates nothing and hates all humanity. It is also really, really funny, entirely on accident. Do not play this, just watch someone else play it (lots of fun let's plays of it exist, like the chip & ironicus one) and have a laugh.

A great engine for generating emergent narratives that feel like they should end with "...The Aristocrats!"

Made me understand why people like 4X games so much. The amount to which you can zoom in and out in this big tactical simulation of a space world war is genuinely breathtaking, and the game has this great sense of humor and wonder in equal measure to propel the whole thing forward with its tongue in its cheek just enough.

Consistently facilitates magical experiences and little stories through its systems. The most beautiful multiplayer video game I've ever played, in multiple senses of the word.
