Going to write this while the emotions are high. I love Risk. Let me say upfront this is a very well done version of the game. The art direction is excellent with what's so far my favorite PC layout. The simultanious game mode is a huge highlight for me, offering a whole new way of playing the game that proves to be a nice alternative to the standard ruleset. In so many ways this is my favorite version to boot up for a reason and I'm glad it continues to run on modern systems without any major issues. THAT SAID, man does this game feel especially cheap at times. The AI constantly seems to be against you and yes I understand the irony of that statement but I mean it occasionally feels as though in a game against multiple opponents they'll actively make decisions that only serve to put the player in a significantly worse spot, that allows them to get an easy continent, and that always puts them at a major dissadvantage to one of the other rivals. It's always whatever the absolute worst possible move they could make is what they go for and it gets infuriating. It's a huge reccuring issue of mine I have compared to other video game editions but it's also made worse by the dice. They feel agressively random here and it's very much not uncommon to have a turn in which every single combat roll you initiate ends in a loss. To an extent that's just an issue with the game in general and can be matched by good strategy, but to me at least it feels especially bad here compared to say the PS1 game or the modern Mobile \ Steam release. Maybe not the fairest comparison but that's just me. Like I said though the emotions are still high and these are prominant issues for me almost more so because I just witnessed them in quite possibly the dumbest turn ever and I had to talk a little about it lol
I've been looking forward to playing this with my girlfriend ever since it was announced, one session later and it was alright. We enjoyed the puzzles and figuring out where to go but the mechanics could definitely use some polish. Movement was a little clunky and actions didn't always want to register. One segment involving the player guiding aa group of ducklings was especially finicky givin their small size.
The art was pretty and is the game's strongest aspect. Everything is monochrome and the environment leaves me with questions about the place we're in and the story behind it. I also liked how the story was silent accomponied only the ambiance of the woods and harsh winter, occasionally accentuated with some soft music.
Ultimately Blanc is a relaxing, chill game perfect for friends, family or couples. It won't ever push you too hard nor will it demand to much of you, rather it's perfect for if you just want a simple title to unwind with for an evening. A co-op cozy game for better or for worse

This is an absolutely amazing port of what is otherwise a pretty mediocre game. I enjoyed how each area is split up into their own environments in which to solve puzzles, battle enemies, meet npcs etc. But the game frequently feels like it has no idea how to balence them and compensates by bombarding you with enemies and item grinding. The backgrounds are also especially frustrating. While lavishly detailed and lovingly painted I often found myself struggling to find what I could interact with and what I couldn't.
For this playthrough I went with the remastered mode and controls felt fairly ok if held back a little by some wonky collision detection. Shockingly I loved all the back and forth you do in this game. The art is well detailed and very pretty at times, while the music is suprisingly very solid if maybe not the most memorable. The highlight though is of course the game's corny cutscenes, easily the highlight of both this and the Wand of Gamelon. Listen I could sit here and complain about the animation quality, the writing, the outragious designs so on and so forth but like, they're so well known and infamous I couldn't help but receit all the lines alongside the cast. Love em or hate em they add a ton of charm and really go a long way in making this game something special.
I want to say I enjoyed my time with this more but sadly for how much fun I did have occasionally, the rest of the time mostly had me frustrated and wanting to move onto something else. A short, memorable jog for fans by a fan but for everyone else maybe just watch Vinny play this on YouTube.
