Sorry folks - I just don’t like 2D Mario. 3D Mario is like a box of chocolates, full of variety and surprises. This is a multipack of crisps of a game. Sure a few things are different but it just didn’t spark joy, and the wonder events got boring after a little while

I doubt I would have spent 250 hours on this if it didn’t come out during the Pandemic when I had nothing else to do. Enjoyed the fishing, partner did the designing. Wish there was a little bit more to do but hit a lot of the right notes otherwise.

Unpolished with several weird mechanic decisions but a decent little game to waste your time on. Story is more than adequate to save the game.

There is no more addicting feeling than shaving a tiny bit off a time trial, seeing yourself power in front of a ghost, or beating a blue shell. Some of the expansion pass tracks lack polish but there’s enough to provide a welcome addition to an already smart game.

I was enjoying this, but it was just a little too sequential. When I got lost going the wrong way it was too cumbersome to go back. I would like to revisit this series though.

It doesn't take too much playing to see where or why it can be improved. It’s fun enough to play with friends, and a nice twist on the Tetris concept.

An excellent party game. Makes something so simple so engaging and competitive. You can’t ask for anything more in a party game.

My favourite game as a child, where I actually felt like I was making magical discoveries - up to the point where I got stuck, when I restarted the game. Revisited as an adult, and it might not have been Mario, but the magic in this game still gave me a smile. I refuse to buy that new Harry Potter game, but this is better in my eyes anyway

Was this game needed? Probably not. Was it enjoyable? Just about. I feel like it missed a little bit of Kirby magic and prioritised gory shock edginess, but it gave me something to do. Even the swallow mechanic doesn’t feel that special any more, after Mario Odyssey improved it manifold. Overall nothing special but nothing too stale.

The best party game on the switch, which keeps giving after you’ve completed the main game. It does better than a lot of actual party games and is even good as a single player again. Even the afterthoughts, like the volleyball games, are fun. A silly and engaging game which is now my go to with friends.

An odd choice. Too unintuitive for party play, mechanically too simple for mastery to be challenging (in most instances). Gave a bit of fun but hardly lit up the sky.

Adequate but it did not grab me. Village life and exploration is okay but was just not motivated to finish this, no matter how short it is. Maybe I’ll give it a proper go another time.

They did a really good job with this all things considered. Most of the sports are fun to play, save a few desperate duds. Almost feels like a native Mario Sports game in rugby and football. The addition of a story mode is good, as are the mini games, and it’s a nice bit of party fun.

Just as boring as Pokemon with the added element of being forcibly online and having a shit framerate

Adequate fun. Nothing incredible but a jolly lark with decent combat and puzzles.
