Not sure what to think on this one, best gameplay in the series, amazing soundtrack in some areas, some of the best moments in the series too. However, I really wish the game had stronger ties to 1 and 2 for a so-called 'finale to the klaus story arc', at that, this game greatly disappointed me.
1998
A beautiful yet overambitious epic. The only flaws exist in disc 1 with dungeons and long portions being extremely boring, feeling like a rough attempt from a dev fresh off final fantasy. While despite disc 1 still being fun and having a lot of great characters, arcs and moments, disc 2 showed the game's true colours. The momentum the game needed - THE XENO came into play and it showed that this game has one of the greatest outlines for a story of all time. I, like many others, strongly wish the game had put more effort into this stretch of the story over disc 1 but despite this, the dodgy presentation of disc 2 didnt hold it back at all.
For what it was for the time and how the outline of perfect works still holds up among the most well thought out pieces of fiction ever told, it's safe to say Takahashi had a masterpiece in his hands with this one. I'm glad he has the chance to recreate it through Xenoblade but deep down, I hope this version of his universe gets to see the light someday. 9.5/10

this is the would-be greatest final fantasy, I just really wish the presentation, story pacing and some of the characters were a little better/more developed + early on wasnt slightly aimless because that ending was one of the coolest things ive ever witnessed. everything else aside, this game was the greatest flex of the ps1 era, HOW did they do it
I NEED this game to get a remake
I NEED this game to get a remake
for what it adds to the game, absolutely not worth the money
2 hours of content with a couple challenging boss fights and 1 (very) cool one but theres no reason it couldn't've been a postgame quest to hype up a DLC with more substance. Really looking forward to the second one because I think it'll be doing just that but this one here is a robbery.
AT LEAST they couldve given more character moments for Jill and Joshua or even the main character himself except they treat it like a side-quest where they're just bystanders.
The reward for completing this is some stronger gear, not even a Fallen themed costume set like we got in that update a while back. Big letdown for the first of 2 DLCs we got hyped up for, could've been 2 really cool new stories except it's now gonna be just 1 (hopefully...)

Really REALLY great story in this one, I wish we got more of it but what we got was one of the best in the series so its hard to complain
Thankfully, the length helps them manage the flow of side content - this being the first yakuza I've attempted all side content in. RGG perfected the formula in this one, I wasn't bored once: the callbacks were incredible, they gave songs good mapping in karaoke, pocket circuit was the most fun its beein in the series etc etc.
This is a perfect yakuza game right here in terms of execution, I just wish we got it sooner with one of my preferred plots and gameplay styles in the series instead.
