personally deemed as one of the most important games ever. deconstruction of survival horror, arcade, and the mechanical science of video games. also very artistically and narratively inspirational. much has already been said
represents the archaic, childlike fun video games initially contain in its rawest form. the absolute epitome of the word Fun.
environmental storytelling at its finest, constant dopamine inducer. i prefer sotn in the “explorative platformer-action game” hybrid genre but that game of course wouldn’t exist without this one.
played a big part in jrpgs becoming bigger in the west and also just a stereotypical masterpiece among its contemporaries
another masterpiece in its own right with a serious narrative some wouldn’t dare tread upon during the era. its metal gear solid
another game that invokes a childlike wonder but more in a magical, self indulgent way. unique subtext and really fun arcade style sega gameplay. very much sega’s shining star during its era.
peak of racers and aesthetically dominates the ps1 library, not sure what else i can say
not my favorite game in its genre but it was incredibly important to the escape of vn/adv games from japan and into western game culture
more of a puyo guy myself but yeah i think it speaks for itself
rough around the edges but takes the rhythm genre to new lengths conceptually
