Finally finished Papers, Please's "Good" endings after three years of leaving it untouched. It was a complete breeze to come back to, the skills from a previous playthrough actually improving slightly since that time those years ago.
Papers, Please is still an amazing piece of interactive art. In my books this is one of the greats of indie gaming. The gameplay is simply perfect, turning what is a boring, tedious task into something engaging. Yet we are always reminded the characters certainly aren't having fun. Weave into this some moral dilemmas and you've got a classic for the ages. Sure, some politics are super simplified here, but the main focus is only on authoritarianism.
Papers, Please is sublime in gameplay, how to integrate interesting motives to decisions and how to ramp up complexity. All around a masterclass in game design. Glory to Arstotzka.
