Japanese "First-Person Shooters"

Japan isn't really known for first-person shooters, but there is a smattering of them, which often have a unique vibe compared to the standard western fare. This list stretches the definition a bit though: along with "proper" FPS games, I've included first-person mecha games, games with gallery shooter elements, and a lot of odd experiments and hybrids.

Not available on Backloggd:
Maze 776 [PC-98] (1996)
TARGET GEAR & TARGET GEAR Alga 2nd [PC] (1997/2000)
Alfur Oguni Monogatari ~ Ergus Invasion War [PC] (????)
FR: Fantastic Rain [PC] (2015)

Possible additions: Ace Combat, Point Blank, House of the Dead (all rail shooters, pure gallery shooters, or dogfighting games)

Has an FPS mode along with the standard railshooter mode.
The maze sections and the sniping scene at the end.
[British director, Japanese programmers and artists]
The gallery shooter and maze sections.
[edge case; instead of a gun you have two pinball-flipper-like bones you use to bounce energy balls.]

X

[British programmer, but Japanese director and graphic designer]
[half top-down shmup, half FPS]
[Edge case: movement during combat is real-time, but the actual shooting behaves as in a turn-based RPG, with aiming determined by RNG]
[TPS/FPS hybrid]
Also: Oretachi no Sabage Portable

Maken Shao Demon Sword, despite being a remake of Maken X, is a third person game, so it doesn't really fit at all

Ah yeah, you're right. I'd forgotten that they changed the perspective for the remake. Fixed it.
