Really great story wrapped around a good shooter that has its really fun moments but could definitely be better

Holy shit that ending this game has no right to be this good

Amazing game with some terrific environmental storytelling that ends in a final boss fight that hits a very well deserved emotional high; level design kinda falls apart for the last couple areas

Not as good as Dark Souls 1 story/world-wise but controls better so it balances out to about the same rating.

One of my favorite fighting games.

While the story might have it's really stupid moments and the ending is overly long, the overall experience is like nothing I've ever played before and is something that will continue to stick with me due to how well crafted of an experience it is.

A really well done shooter that I spent 35 hours in before I even realized I wasn't even engaging with the story. The gunplay is second to none but the overall package is a little more iffy.

Not as good as Heavy Rain but not nearly as bad as Beyond: Two Souls. Overall its a laughably bad story written by a man who just learned racism exists and wants to share that fact with the world.

My most recent playthrough made me realize that I had been too hard on this game before when comparing it to Human Revolution.

In terms of the actual gameplay it improved more on Human Revolution than I gave it credit for. Both the stealth and gunplay are much improved and it definitely feels like it gives you many more options to get through areas.

I wish I could say the same about the story but Square's meddling in the development of the game made sure that it ended up being weaker overall even if there are definitely spots that I thought were much improved over HR. I thought the side missions were much more interesting and much more fleshed out than before with more thought put into the story of each of them with and with multiple of them having different stages that occur over your different visits to Prague that all come together at the end of the game where you can see the different people Jensen helped throughout the game joined together under a singular cause. One side mission "thread" I would like to single out is the Harvester missions. Those on their own are much more fleshed out than anything in HR and are some of the best parts of the game.

The main story is a step down from HR but in general is still interesting enough to stay engaging until it completely drops the ball with the ending where instead of having anything actually important happen it just zooms in on a tv while the news tells you about all the things you did.

I don't have any nostalgia for the rest of the Diablo series but I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

Surprisingly fun shooter that is let down by a nothing story and underwhelming loot.

2016

Took what made OG Doom fun and mixed it with an even more fast paced and skill based shooter that is one of the best of the generation.

One of, if not the best shooter of the generation

Great gameplay loop marred by a poor story that has an even worse ending.
