Fire Emblem, Ranked

Nothing here!

The GOAT, I cannot shut up about this stupid ass game it gives me a smile on my face just thinking about it. For me, the most mechanically satisfying entry in the series, from the pure genius of systems like capture and rescue, to crusader scrolls, to the dominance of status staves, Thracia is IS and Kaga at their creative peak with the franchise and I am so glad I gave this game a chance even after hearing from all the haters who simply got filtered by this absolute masterclass of a game.
About tied with RD for me because I think the Tellius games are a fantastic duology that both have points over each other that makes me indecisive which one I like more. It's hard to talk about one without the other and that's because these two put together are the ultimate FE package, and you def need to play both to appreciate them. That being said PoR is a great game on it's own merits. Really great art direction and writing, sure gameplay is a lil slow even on an emulator but the game has such a nice feel to how it plays. It's one of the easier FE games but I honestly don't mind it too much cuz sometimes its just plain fun steamrolling shit with a couple units and hey it's still really fun to invest in the weaker units and make them good (Astrid one of my fav units because of this<3). A game I could recommend to anybody and if u got a hacked wii or a way to emulate gamecube games I don't see why you wouldn't want to try this.
Very grand and ambitious, while RD can fumble at a couple elements especially with contrived feeling parts of the narrative I still think the story of this game is one of the most detailed and epic feeling in the entire series. I love the switch between perspectives and how you can feel the imbalance in powers between factions (going from the Greil Mercenaries in Part 3 back to Dawn Brigade is a massive whiplash but I really love how it's done; even if clunkily so). RD is very different from many FE games cuz of this, and it has a massive focus on availability rather than long term investment with ur units which I think was a nice fresh breath of air overall. A couple maps are stupid asf but I think when RD hits that sweet spot it really works, maps that feel fresh or different or have well done gameplay-story integration. Like idk man I think this is a very well made game even if it fumbles a lot, I understand why it gets a lot of shit from people but I can't stop myself from really loving this one, Good job Micaiah love u <3
Has the same storyelling capabilities of FE5 but overall I don't like this game as much. Don't get me wrong tho this shit is the fucking goat but like if you told me to pick which Jugdral game I'd say Thracia 776 in a heartbeat. That said I still really love this game and the story still chokes me up thinking about it all these months later, I really love the generational storytelling of this game even if Gen 2 is not as narratively complex, Seliph may not live up to his dad for a lot of people but that's why I like his character because he has to deal with the massive footprints his old man left for him to fill and he doesn't get the credit he deserves both ingame and by fans despite going through a lot himself. I havent really mentioned the soundtracks much but the OST of this game is amazing I got the mp3s of those map themes on my phone I listen to that shit at work man I don't get tired of it, really moody and nostalgic vibes throughout, idk if its my fav ost in the series but its rlly good. Gameplay is rlly weird and a turnoff for a lot of ppl but I like the odd mechanics of this game and I find the massive maps to feel almost comfy. Overall just a great game all around and ngl the top 4 games in this list I all love almost equally and I think it goes to show that FE is a series where so many of the games feel so diff that it's really hard to compare them sometimes.
ngl after these top 4 entries this is where my ranking tends to get sorta shaky cuz I love a lot of the games down here but putting them in an order I can fully be satisfied with is really difficult.
Shadow Dragon was one of the first games in the series I played and I sorta hit it off immediately, this game isn't really well liked by the community and I can sorta get it especially if ur an NES FE1 purist (i aint finished that one yet but it's a decent enough game i suppose) but imo this is still a really fun game in it's own right and I've had a H1 ironman of this game on the back burner for a while that I wanna get back too cuz I think this game is one of the most ironman friendly in the series because of the multiple difficulty settings and the massive amount of replacement units you can get. The gameplay is really simple but it plays FAST, has great UI and a near perfect length for a FE game imo. There are a couple of tedious maps but overall I find the maps of this game to be really fun and rewarding to complete. Maybe later down the line I wont like this game as much anymore but for the time being I still really really love this game and I plan on revisiting it a lot.
This game and Engage are overall tied for me, they both got things that the other may not do as well so it's hard for me to dicern which is overall the one I like more. Conquest is one of those FE games I don't think I'll ever be able to understand on a mechanical level without playing this shit for like 800 hours, prob has the most intense item management and aggressive enemy ai in the series. Maps can be fucking brutal even on the lowest difficulty and honestly I tried replaying this game on normal classic and I was getting fucked in the ass for making simple mistakes around ch15 or so I believe, dropped it but I would like to finish it someday. Game is really punishing as you can tell but I still think the maps are super well made and diverse, the endgame sorta sucks ass tho (which lol this also applies to engage) but I think the other 2/3rds are good enough for me to still say this game is good. Also forgot to mention but the character design is super strong in this game, and Forrest and Elise are some of my favorite little scrimblos in FE love them <3
Legit so tired of the stupid ass argument over the story and art direction of this game, not that there aren't corny ass defenders of this game who are like "bro the story never matters in FE #LOL 😂😂🤓🤓"but like man it was, and still is, very frustrating to like this game because it's impossible to say you enjoy it without getting shit on for it man just leave me alone let me enjoy my fun strategy game. I find Engage to be a lot more approachable than Conquest mechanically and the maps are of the same quality, the titular Engage mechanic is really cool and fun to abuse and I think this is the one entry in the series that has actually engaging (ha) boss fights and they really want you to use ur emblem rings to their fullest extent it is super fun. I honestly did not mind the corny ass story of this game and it got me laughing at a lot of points, intentionally or not, which I think gives it a lot more value to me than a boring story like FE6. The characters designs are a little silly sometimes but there are ones I really enjoy and Rosado as a character was actually what got me interested in this game (and back into the series as a whole after taking a break when I played FE8), love my little pretty boy he's so cute <3. But yeah it's a good time and I wanna replay it probably early next year because the game is so fun and I feel the haters who say that this game is gonna be forgotten in a year are corny and need to actually engage (HA) with it more, or just admit that it's not for them (which is perfectly valid).
Echoes is def a very divisive game, it's either among your favorites or least favorites for a lot of people, I'm in the middle but don't get me wrong I still really like this game. Some of the maps r annoying asf and there are questionable design decisions but considering this is an extremely faithful remake of an NES game that was an experimental sequel I can let it slide and I respect the effort to preserve the original experience while also adding onto it in meaningful ways. The game is very detailed and expertly crafted, there are actually a shit ton of hidden events or different conversations in this game that can happen that I've never seen before (look up the convo that happens if Mathilda dies that shit hurts) which I think really shows how much work was put into this game especially when it wasn't even gonna sell very well (releasing a 3DS game in 2017 was like a fucking death sentence). I like the story quite a bit and the characters and ESPECIALLY their designs are such a MASSIVE improvement upon Gaiden like what the fuck lmfao (no diss to gaiden and I plan on playing that eventually and I'm sure I'll appreciate it but, lmao the character design of that game is lowkey kinda ass). Don't have many characters in this game I'd say are among my favorites, moreso the cast as a whole is one of the best imo. Solid game and I've been replaying it a bit as of recent because I think it's one of those games that gets better with hindsight and such.
My first fire emblem game, I've replayed both routes since and despite the low ranking this is still a solid game and one of the best starting points I'd say. Game is def very akin to Gaiden/Echoes in that its less permadeath friendly and wants u to heavily invest in a smaller cast of units but honestly grinding sucks ass in this game, the skirmishes in particular ESPECIALLY with FoW is fucking assss bro that shit sucks. Other than that the game is rlly easy which for a lot of FEheads is a turnoff which I get but its a decent enough game to just turn off my brain to and the maps are actually still well designed. Very glad I played this because it welcomed me into a great series but after playing a lot of the other games it's def not one of my favorites.
a lot of people's first FE game, and honestly it was a pretty good pick for the first localized entry in the series. I loved this game a lot when i first played it but the cracks def started to show when I invested heavily into the other entries, still a fun time but it doesnt hold up as well anymore but I don't mind replaying this every once in a while. It's got some chars i still really love (Lyn, Hector, Rebecca, and Serra gaming) and some solid maps. Lategame can def suck ass tho shit like Cog of Destiny is assssss and a perfect example of the design flaws of lategame GBA emblem. Not the best but still a game I very much appreciate.
ngl i dont have much to say about this game anymore, i wrote a review on this one (and several other entries) but the tl;dr is this game is sorta designed like ass but its got a really solid art direction and music, with a couple facets of its design and mechanics i enjoy with about like 7 actually good maps maximum. I've replayed the first 6 chapters of this game about 3-5 times, unironically the best part of the game to me but even those maps can have issues lmao.
idk why this game pisses me off but it was the first of these games where i finished it and actively felt really disappointed. i had a lot higher expectations from this game but maaaaan does the map design in this game suck and i think that a lot of units in this game don't feel good to use, kris is kinda funny to juggernaut with ig but idk this game was not a fun time for me. i honestly have no legit critique of the map design other than i found it really frustrating or annoying. maybe i'll understand this game if i replay it like 50 times but for the time being i can't be bothered when i could replay or play other much better games in the series.
the one that saved the series i guess. idk man i do not really fw this game and while im glad that it allegedly kept the series alive it sort of had a negative effect on the series going forward for a lot of people, and while I love games like Conquest and Engage i cant blame older fans for hating this game because of it. As for me personally I just find this game to be really boring, its moderately fun to steamroll but I'm not a fan of this game's approach to unit investment compared to Echoes or Sacred Stones and the maps are sooo boring like where are the objectives??? I would like to give this game another shot but idk if it is ever getting above a 6/10 for me im sorry man.

Hi hi, I was curious as to what you'd say a good FE game is to start with. I've tried playing Three Houses and Blazing Blade, but I need my games to have a little bit of spice to them if you catch my drift.

@Bells mmm... that's a tough question. Path of Radiance is a bit slow but its very fun and rewarding to play especially with the optional map objectives, so maybe try there. ymmv because of Blazing Blade not hooking you but I'd say Path of Radiance is marginally more interesting. After that maybe check out the Jugdral games (Genealogy and Thracia 776) but be aware that both entries handle very differently from the rest

Fates: Conquest and Engage are also worth looking into eventually if you really want mechanically complex strategies and map design (Thracia does this well too!)
I'm assuming in terms of "spice" you mean gameplay, so be wary that these two compared to the others i recommend are very weak narratively.

Cool cool, thanks for the advice!

This has motivated me a little to try to one day get through a lot of these games. Really need to play Engage sometime this year.

@Angel_Arle I hope you enjoy! FE despite having so many viable entry points can be a hard series to get into, but I feel for most people it eventually sticks after a game or two
