Not a single element in Hyper Demon exists without a reason. And every mechanic and player input serves multiple purposes. Every action you take is part of an intricately designed network of decisions that at the same time feels limitless and can comfortably fit in your head.

I honestly, genuinely don't know how they did it. All I know is I've spent 30 hours playing a game that can be finished in under 4 minutes and I don't plan to stop anytime soon. It's some of the best first person shooting action I've ever experienced.

Beware of the lengthy tutorial. You can jump into the game without fully finishing it, but should at some point go back to it to grasp some of the more nuanced mechanics.

what a joyful underrated gem! the animated cutscenes are beautiful. the music is lovely. and it's pretty short!

The masculine urge to enter a train station and never leave.

Decent licensed game. It's on the easier side of Treasure's catalog.
Starts, teaches you the basics, the platforming does some fun and interesting things, the level design does some fun and interesting things, the boss fights do some fun and interesting things, and ends pretty quickly.
Overall it's no Gunstar Heroes, but does have the signature Treasure feel to it.

Barely functioning game. Breaking it for achievements was a fun way to spend 15 minutes tho lol.

Very cool and very short. It's impressive how much of both games is here and how well they mix together. It's not just Mario with a dash and some custom levels. A significant portion of Celeste's core is present and it does feel quite nice. The world design is enjoyable and I'm gonna have some fun trying to hunt down every single hidden moon, or attempt the other optional challenges. Recommended for fans of either game.

The only score of mine that might be affected by nostalgia. So maybe subtract half a star if you want to.

Don't be fooled by the primitive presentation. The first person platforming works surprisingly well even if the game lacks decent camera controls.
It's quite fun and the physics are handled well.

Frame rate might drop occasionally but it's not a deal breaker.

Also it's pretty short. Only 18 levels, 7 of which are (really good) boss fights

Pretty decent picross game.

Played the PC port without any extra bells and whistles.
Camera isn't as big of a hassle as they make it out to be, setting it to the "down" position will help a lot.

Wuh... What? Games could be like this?
THIS WAS AWESOME!

2008

Didn't beat the Joker, but the rest of it was good.

Wow. Uhm... yeah I'm kinda speechless at this point in time. Wow what a game.
