"Was this road really that long?"

It hasn't lost much of its power in the decades since, reducing every non-essential element of a video game and still being the most memorable road trip in gaming history.

Revisiting after playing The Silver Case, I have a feeling that this is all a dream of Sumio Kodai while he was being held in jail.
I mean, story-wise there's almost nothing here that connects to the previous game and the 25th Ward, but thematically, escapism from the past by adopting the Mondo persona really ties in with the rest of the KTP series.
If some points in TSC seems like a nightmare, FSR is the nightmare itself, yeah the hotel and the tropical landscape of the island seem chill at first, but it is a place that time has ceased to exist, and you are stuck in reliving the same day every day, it really gives a sense of false comfort, and the part that you "play" reinforces this, considering how purposefully dickerish the game is designed to be for the player, it really gives you a claustrophobic feeling when you realize you’re on your fifth day on the island and you didn’t make it past the hotel lobby lol
The game ends with a reunion of Sumio with his old co-worker, Kusabi, it is as if the thread of reality and dream is getting thinner and thinner, Sumio Mondo's days are coming to an end, and a new day of Sumio Kodai is dawning.

Imagine that you are a kid in the late 90's without internet access, you strategically position the camera of the game to show the best close-up of Lara's breasts, your father enters the room, sees this and be like:
"wtf my son masturbates to polygons? "
