Final Fantasy Ranked, Very Subjectively

Will update with more games as I play them - my PC is too crappy to play FF12 and up. Including remakes as separate entries if I feel they are different enough. Behold my hot takes and bad taste

Fite me
Flawed but I love the lore. Laguna best character
It's not nostalgia, it's just an exceptionally good game
HA HA HA (I unironically love the voice acting btw)
Functional translation and better difficulty curve would push it into the top 2
Take out Genesis and streamline the side-missions and this probably climbs even higher. Fantastically written and directed.
It's good, play it
Top tier characters, high tier storytelling, mid tier gameplay. This game made me realise I was a gameplay guy and not a story guy
Still very good, I just like the other games more
Unfairly maligned in some aspects, but not one of the stronger entries anyway.
Fun but bloated. Too much of a fun thing can become a chore.
FF1: too easy and bland. FF2: Definitive version
Misunderstood, not as bad as many say
The so-called upgrades make this worse than the original in too many ways.
Fantastic game, but ATB bugs and slowdown/missed inputs ruin it for me

Respect to OG FF, but it's a buggy mess
Hot take: this is harder than most FFs

Pretty good taste tbh
Have you played War of the Lions? It has the functional translation you’re asking for

@QuilDewIvy: It's on my backlog for sure! Trying to track down a PSP copy since I can't stand gaming on mobile.

@dwardman: heh thanks! Plenty of my friends are like "6 9 and Tactics are the only valid candidates for best FF"

4 and 7 are my own favorites so far, but i'm still yet to explore the series fully and re-evaluate my favorites from teenhood. My hot take is that all of them are actually good and the best in their own way
