Norco

2022

The word 'enjoy' wouldn't be the right one to use for my time in the living, breathing world of Norco, but it's a setting unlike any I've experienced before in a game. An excellent narrative wrapped up in a grimy art style that felt sweaty and nervous. I could have done without the combat bits, but otherwise this is amongst the best visual novels I've played.

Look at this SJW soyboy they put on the cover lmao

Tried to give this game another chance since I felt maybe I was too hard on it but no, it’s even worse. It is glitchy to the point of being unplayable with Link being barely controllable, areas not loading correctly, and a statue from later in the game randomly showing up everywhere and blocking the way. Appalled at Nintendo for releasing a game in this state.

Playing Disco Elysium for the first time. This is like… literature or something. I like it.

Update: Sensing hints of commie bullshit

I'm not going to give this a star review. There's nothing to judge as far as gameplay seeing that it is a visual novel - even some of the few choices you can make still end in the result of

"Say yes or no"
select yes
"I couldn't say yes. I said no anyway."

Which, in any other kind of game would annoy me to hell and back. Don't give me a fake choice if the character doesn't listen.
But in a game like this, rather in a story like this, choices didn't seem to really exist. Our main character was left to believe that they didn't have any real choices.

This is a sad story. I can't say I recommend this game on any merit other than - knowing people's stories can help you be more aware of what others go through in life.

no dramatic music played. i still felt the exact same as before.

No game has made me feel more insecure about my media literacy than Immortality

It's kind of like playing Submachine 3 (2006) except your mouse cursor is an anime lady.

Scorn

This game kinda sucks? It’s more of an art piece than anything. I adore the art style. I played the game on a steam deck docked at 1080p upscaled from a much lower res using FSR. It still looked stunning. The Giger inspired style truly shines for the entire journey. But what exactly was the journey? This game was ultimately 5 mazes with four or so puzzles and a bad boss fight. The enemy designs are awesome. The combat not so much. There’s this strange incessant desire by the devs to have call of duty-esque animations accompanying rather mediocre combat. If this was a SOMA style game with no combat and simply avoiding the monsters, it would’ve been better. Heck even point and click would’ve been better gameplay wise. The ending is also rather mediocre, but this was much more of a journey through a foreign world as opposed to a thrilling story. I cannot wait to see what this dev team does next. In a world of battle royales and completely broken $70 shooters, scorn is a breath of fresh air and one of my favorite experiences of 2022.

This game was more present in my childhood than my father

i bought this exclusively to have something to do after hitting bong tokes it was ok

Dusk

2018

Played and really enjoyed it on PC, but had way more fun on the solid switch port. Yeah I enjoyed it a lot more on the Switch then PC, something I feel almost dirty for saying. This mostly comes down to not being a PC gamer. Never had a good computer to run games during childhood, so mouse and keyboard ain't my comfort zone whatsoever.
Being able to bunnyhop with ease made combat so much more fun. What was once chunkily slow walking barely able to dodge most projectiles turned into something that made me feel like I knew what I was doing. Game itself is immensely fun and tightly designed. Little padding and the levels run a average of 10 minutes each if your the explorative type, or about half or less if you like rushing to the goal. The fact that you can complete every stage without killing anything (including the bosses) is such an amazing detail. This might be because of my previous playthrough, but I felt there was little that felt unfair. That has always made me wary of boomer shooters, how I got the impression that you were encouraged to quick save every few feet because of how brutal they seemed. That probably just mostly applies to the bad ones
Whichever version, Dusk is really a excellent game. New Blood is definitely ones to keep your eye on. (I know there's Ultrakill too, I'm holding off till it's fully released.)

The game is confusing and obscure for the sake of it. The fact that the creator of this game where you lead a cult and use the people who work for you as an expendable resource is accused of abuse makes this already bad game even more disgusting
