this is the best rpg ive ever played in my whole life and it is not worth playing the original at all. the amount of meaningful content and jaw-dropping twists and turns make it so addictingly fresh and enjoyable. the story in royal is perfect for what it is but still has a lot of the creepy treatment of minors that the original had and sadly doesn't attempt to get rid of any of it.

out of all the modern persona games (3, 4, 5), 3 is the most polarizing. 3's gameplay was bashed for a lack of player input and repetitive layouts but to me that felt like an integral part of the experience, which probably says more about me than it does the game. the story was bashed for being too one-note and at times, a little too depressing, however, out of all modern persona games this ones story might be the best purely on the basis of its treatment of mental illness and the way it discusses suicide. the treatment of mental illness in persona 3 feels almost therapeutic to go through and persona 3 isn't afraid to talk about inequality and stigma that the player themselves can help change in real life.
this game deserves to be remade without a doubt.

this might be unfortunately the best game I've ever played which makes me uncomfortable because it might only just get this good and only go downhill from here. I don't want to beat it. I don't want to see how it ends. I don't want to accept that it won't be fresh to me like it was on the day I first played it. I don't want that to be taken away from me because games like this only come around maybe every 10 years or so, and that means there won't be many for me to enjoy.
