cameras

not an exhaustive list, but beyond good & evil is probably my favorite example of taking pictures in games - and having those pictures serve some purpose with meaning in the story already written. not all of these use their cameras in the same way, but these are some games i like in which there is some level of focus on taking pictures, whether mechanical or in service of a story or anything more than taking a selfie. nothing against selfies, but i don't really feel like taking selfies in open world games or whatever really needs to be included here. same if the photography is treated as a collectathon and nothing more. anyway

never actually had one of these, but as i understand it this is essentially a collection of minigames utilizing 1-bit photography. unique on this list, it's fascinating as a piece of tech and as a games collection littered with easter eggs and adventurous whimsy only made possible by its extremely limited little camera peripheral.

Gravity Rush 2 had a pretty rubost photo mode, including a major online component where players would take and share photographs for clues to treasure chest locations and such - it was about as close to photographic Souls messages as you can get.
