i don't hate it like everyone else, but the gameplay is pretty substandard for a mass effect game. the plot is rife with interesting details that get squandered by a game that never manages to launch into a stride.

I don't understand all this hate about the game. Maybe it's the long thirst, because I've been waiting so long for a new Mass Effect, but for me the story and the characters worked really well. I was fully invested and was a little bit sad when it was over. Even though the next Mass Effect won't be Andomenda 2 because of the failure, I hope it will be continued in one way or another.

I see the repetitive gameplay, of course. But I could handle that. Personally, I had fun with it, too.

Stopped after around 12 hours.

I mean what can you say that hasn't be said already? What a mess of an experience. I'm sure by now (2020) that a lot of the bugs and glitches were addressed but no amount of patches can fix the terrible writing & bland mission structure.

Abandoned this a few months ago. I had no experience with the franchise before playing this (hellfire I know) and I think my first mistake was mostly just playing it so I could have a space girlfriend. Anyway, I love how idealistic and adventurous is. The concept is great, but the gameplay is drivel and the missions are boring. Felt bad for leaving my crew but had no desire to continue after sinking about 15 hours into it. If there's ever a remaster of the original trilogy I'll play them.

the one nice thing i will say about this game is that the combat was absolutely fantastic. but then there was everything else :)

Man, I can't believe I'm about to write so many words for this game but I am. I've always wanted to re-try this game after getting it from Red Box on release. It was such a mess that I never touched it again after fifteen minutes.

I've since replayed the game and completed it, got 100% viability on all the worlds, all the fun stuff. Man, I gotta say, this game could have been so much better and entertaining if the team had been given proper time. So much of it feels unexplored, not fleshed out or just completely incomprehensible.

The most fun part of the game, like most Bioware titles, is hanging with your squad. In this game, moreso than other Bioware titles (except maybe the Dragon Age series) you're presented with squadmates that are at times incompatible or make stupid fucking decisions. I liked this aspect! It was more human than other Bioware games. Your team and you are not perfect.

Unfortunately, this is where the game flounders. One of your squadmates, Liam, constantly jeopardizes your mission and goes over your head as the Pathfinder. It's absurd that you can't punish him or court martial him or just kick him out of your squad. Instead you just cop out and keep him around. There are so many other moments like this.

Therefore, the only thing I can really say about Andromeda is that it's entirely inconsequential. Nothing you do matters, the endpoint is always the same. And it had to be, because this was Bioware's attempt at setting up a new Mass Effect universe.

Combat is pretty fun, exploration is cool (although certain worlds and exploration stages felt extremely forced), the story and the writing just drag this whole project down. The game does provide some interesting meta commentary on settler colonialism and the power structures and super structures that exist outside of your Pathfinder/modern day conquistador. That was fun and interesting. The last hour and a half of gameplay/the final mission sequence was the most fun I had in the entire game.

I got this as a joke, dirt cheap and still sealed. I bought it purely to laugh at its expense after hearing how disastrous the launch was. Turns out I actually really liked it. Its still very buggy, especially with animations, but a lot has been fixed in the three years since release. Combat is arguably the best in the series with a greater focus on verticality and customisation. I enjoyed the characters and story, even if they don't reach the heights of the original trilogy; with Peebee, Drack and Jaal being my favourites by far. The worlds themselves look gorgeous and I appreciate how you can see your actions changing them, but they can feel kinda empty with repetitive side quests filling the maps. It's a flawed game for sure, but I had way more fun with this than I could ever have anticipated.

This game could have been so good dude. I’ve been thinking about it since our Journal Updated episode on it (https://t.co/OPApnEEyVd) and it’s so close to something I could like. Unfortunately it decides that it desperately needs to stick to the racism and genocide apologia that the original trilogy made the core of their morality. Ryder is a lovely protagonist and honestly I ended up liking most of the crew members more than those of the first three games too.
The game, unfortunately, just doesn’t come together. It’s riddled with bugs even after all of the patches to fix it, and the more you hear about the conditions the game was made under the more you can understand why that is. I wish there was anything redeeming about Andromeda, either in the game or in the development process, and there’s nothing.

comically bad but m!ryder/jaal good ♡

I had an EA Play trial that just expired so I didn't get to finish this. But considering how incredibly large this game is, and how I was pretty much slogging through it, I call it a good time to just drop it here.

It's basically a more boring retread and maybe even soft reboot of the original Mass Effect, except without any of the charm or heart that it had. The combat is easily the best in the entire series, and actually feels engaging and fluid enough to play. Too bad everything around it is either bland, boring, and feels like kind of a waste of time.

The worst part is, I was actually really close to fucking PeeBee before EA cucked me.

It's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. A lot of criticism the game faced was for technical aspects that have been patched and now vary between "acceptable" to "completely fine". The game itself feels pretty good to play and might be the best feeling game in the franchise in terms of combat and movement. The writing is all over the place, though. Something like 30-40% of the writing is actually any good and the rest can go in the bin. The biggest, glaring issue with it is the colonialism is off the charts. "Oh, we're going somewhere no one is so we can settle new homes! Oh wait, there's an alien species here already? That's okay, shoot half of them, befriend the other half, and continue our settling plans without any change!" fuck off

There was enough good stuff in it that I wish they'd do another one but with how poorly it was received I doubt they'll take another crack at it.

ME: Andromeda is a perfect example of how trying to continue a beloved series can kill it altogether.

Full of promise, Andromeda preys upon your memories of the original trilogy, dropping hints towards the start of the campaign as to just how large, expansive and detailed the story will be: "Wow, a new galaxy! I wonder what amazing planets, strange aliens and different story I'll discover!?" it makes you wonder.

Then after about 3 hours you realise that it's bland, there is only 1 friendly alien species you meet, outpost building is just a case of errand running and you don't give a damn about your crewmates.

I ended up rushing through this completely bland insult to the Sci-Fi genre, wondering at every step just how much worse they've handled each element I gradually encountered.

Pair that with the most anti-climactic ending, and pathetic cliff-hanger epilogue and you get a title that I'll gladly forget ever existed.

Oh and to top it off? The story is incomplete - there are so many questions left unanswered that were supposed to be answered via DLC, but it never got made.

The 2 stars are for the pretty fun gunplay - the only redeeming feature.

Only bother playing if you get it for free.

Bringing this series to a new galaxy had so much potential, and instead it became just an OK game with an INSANE amount of bugs.

soooo here's the thing. i think this game had a lot of potential! i like how hopeful it is sometimes, despite the things happening! it's kind of wondrous! i really like some of the characters and i do like the way there are multiple personalities you can have (something i liked about da2 but a little more complex here)! vetra <3

that said, this game is just lacking... something. it's hard to explain what. the gameplay is monotonous and a lot of the exploring is just... boring to me, which is such a shame since despite its flaws i thought dai did that aspect very well. it's just kind of boring. i don't know if being attached to such a popular ip helps or harms it. as a standalone it would be fine, but because it's a MASS EFFECT game it feels like a massive letdown compared to the trilogy. on the other hand, i feel like this game would've just been largely ignored if it was a standalone? it's a shame, really.

tentatively put as abandoned because i have no plans to go back to it when there are more interesting things in my backlog, but i'm not opposed to going back eventually?

I liked a lot of the ideas here, taking the series in a different direction and making this a more open-world game. But the characters all felt lifeless and it was just so buggy. It's a shame, I'd like to see more Mass Effect!

Really bad but at least the combat is good. Ish.

Enjoyed the final levels. A very abrupt and weird ending. Story was a bit of a rehash of the original trilogy but had a lot of fun actually playing the game.

This game killed the reputation of one of the biggest names in the industry and those losses are nothing compared to the pain and hardship and abuse that its developers endured, for years, for the sake of a toy.

Possibly the biggest disappointment I've ever played. Don't touch it. Just play the original trilogy.

I tried 2 times to play this game - before playing the trilogy and after when still fresh in hype for Mass Effect universe. Didn't matter. I literally left it at the same point in the game which is a little after meeting Peebee. I really want to give it a chance but I can't even force myself to do it

gave up on the first level don't like the game lol

Not as bad as it's made out to be. But still extremely disappointing. Often felt oddly... un-cinematic compared to ME3. Less grand and exciting. Similarly to Dragon Age Inquisition, Bioware seem to have learnt how to make beautiful environments, but forgotten how to write interesting or engaging squadmates. Lets hope they remember how for the next Mass Effect.

My face is tired.

game is only kinda fun during combat the rest of it sucks
