Games with Weird Product Placement

Games that have a secret agenda to weasel in some oddly specific brands into your cranium.

No blatant marketing games (Cool Spot, PETA games, etc), no generic mobile game ads, and no crossovers (which is certainly a marketing ploy, but is kinda a different discussion).

Included the beer brand Tennent's Lager

until it didn't
Will the Cup Noodles ever show any mercy
The first monster energy type game.

ok that one's definitely not true kojima
The Cup Noodles quest is definitely a thing. There's probably others but I just remembered this.
At one point, edited the characters' outfits with out of place Capcom Pro Tour logos. Guile got a whole new set of tattoos just for this stunt, crazy.
You can drive in a Mercedes Benz

Pretty fucked up how advertising is doing its job just by the look of the realistic Mario in that one Mercedes ad at the time being memorable.
There are Energizer batteries, and also Verizon ads apparently.

They seem to be removed in the remaster, won't anyone think of the corporations :(
this one has doritos

jfc kojima slow down
lets get our wahoo's fish tacos gamers

(see, it's because he says wahoo in the video game)
dont worry about it we got a jeep now
Features billboards campaigning for Barack Obama. Making a joke about this is probably a bad idea so im not going to
He chews Airwave gum, which is a thing I did not know existed until now
It has a Calorie Mate, which I also didn't know existed until now.
There's a bunch of treasures like Duracell batteries and Vlasic pickles. I guess in some regard it's kinda like modern games that just have brands because it's supposed to be our Earth, but this one stands out the most.
Do a McTwist over that McDonald's McTony Hawk!!
this might be crossing the line of a "marketing game" but Skittles magic is too good to ignore, honestly
Sam O Nella Dole banana plantation joke here
Sega needs to shut up about their "Two Worlds" nonsense and answer the REAL questions about Sonic lore, like how Sonic can still rail grind without his Soap shoes.
Animated cutscenes between levels for a Japanese fishing store (she fishes too)
There are lots of Snickers logos in one version I think
Has lots of level transitions shilling Penguin Bars.

I wish James Pond had an ironic meme following turned revival instead of Bubsy he deserves it more just look at him.

Energizer batteries in the original version of Alan Wake. Especially silly given how quickly they run out of juice

I dunno if you'd accept it, but Darkened Skye uses skittles for it's magic in-universe.

Speaking of Kojima games, Metal Gear Solid 3 had the good old Calorie Mate and I’m pretty sure Peace Walker had Doritos?

Jeep sponsored Far Cry 2 and there was a special gold edition of an SUV that you got after helping a man do an ethnic cleansing.

The Yakuza/Like a Dragon series is filled to the brim with product placement (It's not a negative mind, because it actually lend itself to the verisimilitude of Kamurocho being based off of Kabukicho. The sheer range of it is weird though, like Boss Coffee, Don Quijote stores, Japan Pro Wrestling, and porn stars.

the yakuza series was mentioned here already but there's an entire sidequest in yakuza 5 where akiyama plays wingman for some random stranger by suggesting that he buy a gaga milano watch

-Spiderman: Web of Shadows has massive 5-Gum billboards for some reason

-Guitar Hero generally represents all brands neutrally, but since Line 6 made some of the covers for Guitar Hero 3, Line 6 amplifiers are portrayed full force, they even sponsor you in the campaign.

-Rocksmith works with any ol' guitar/bass... but also is sponsored by and proudly pretty much only shows Epiphone equipment in the lessons. Also contains numerous different brands for amplifiers and effect pedals and such, but that only kinda counts as it's for emulating using the actual equipment used to get the tone of many a famous musician, something players would want to do.

-Super Monaco GP has ads for fucking Marlboro cigarettes
