this is my favorite "rpg" with post soviet blues from an estonian perspective that is also influenced by a social media site beginning with a "t" and ending with an "r"

The decision to couch what appears to be an examination/critique of evangelical-adjacent/non-denominational Protestant Christian culture/environments in a fictionalized scientology-esque cult is one I'm not entirely convinced doesn't dilute some of what this appears to be attempting to do (or won't in the long run if it sticks with it) but it also doesn't prevent this first episode from hitting a lot of v familiar dynamics with painful accuracy - I had variations of the convo between Twigs and her mom abt associating with non-believers with my own mom growing up and even as a young adult once I started dating lol. Not to reduce this solely to that of course - this a refreshingly ambitious and sharply observed piece of work even if its component parts are all things I've encountered before elsewhere, and the presentation is phenomenal accross the board - terrific soundtrack, character designs that strongly invoke Shigeru Goto's design work on Okage: Shadow King, the believably typo-ridden text itself as expression of its teenage protagonist's processing of the world and her own thoughts (which also reminded me of the writing and speaking style of a very dear friend of mine - if I had to imagine what kind of kid they were at this age Twigs isn't too far off lol), the Anno-esque editing, etc. Also those FMV sequences have a genuine sense of scale and mood sorely lacking in games today, especially on the indie scene, the one capping off episode 1 was genuinely breathtaking. Anyway big fucking vibe, looking forward to seeing how this unfolds!

It's easy to put this game along with "meme games" that are plaguing Steam for a long time such as Hentai [put whatever you want], especially that it's similar in a couple of ways - this is a cheap, cheaply looking, clickbaity game. After all, this is a game where Sakuya Izakoi from Touhou Project series dabs! Just like meme games, it also has reachability a lot of games could just dream about.

But where's meme games are nothing more than a bunch of overused reddit, welp, memes (along with some stolen/default assets and bad quality pornography), Sakuya Izayoi Gives You Advice And Dabs feels like it has pure (heh) heart. This game wants to help you quite literally - asking you what's wrong, giving you a advice for that problem and wanting you to come back when you will need another one. And although 10 different tips doesn't feel like much, it's enough to be helpful. It also has hand-drawn art which, although not the best looking, fits well into this game.

Overall, is it that great? Probably not, but i wish more games were like this. Especially meme games.

Oh and also you won't believe what she does at the end, it's amazing.

The sense of scale here is astounding. Halo may be a series about being a cool super soldier, but it's also about ancient systems eating people alive. Everyone here gets swallowed in majesty and terror.

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new: an extraordinary game from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the game and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine gaming is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Dev Gusteau's famous motto, "Anyone can game." But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now gaming at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest dev in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more.

Just watched the story cutscenes, I'm surprised by how genuinely great this story is

YOU CLAIM THAT GUILTY GEAR LOBBIES SUCK YET YOU STILL TRY TO USE THEM.... CURIOUS...

I love when he says some shit like "is your character known for writing FNAF Minecraft AU fanfiction" on like the third question and you just have to politely say no.

I didn't actually think this would get added to Backlogged when I added it to IGDB but here we are...................... god what is wrong with me.

This review was originally going to be "Off-Peak City Vol. 1 is the Death Stranding to Jazzpunk's Metal Gear Solid," but that doesn't make any goddamn sense, so now it's this.

i played with k-on soundtrack on the whole time and when i beat that moon lord oh boy was i tripping mate

This one is... weird.

Pretty much an expansion of everything Superhot was, including that cocky self-conscious plot, but it has some weird design decisions that break everything entertaining the original had.

Yeah, swinging your flying katana around the arena is really cool, but the nodes system isn't. It gets to the ridiculous point where you have to beat +20 fights in the same levels to complete 1 node. It ends up being annoying and boring as hell.

But... you still go on, because the powers are so awesome.

I don't know if this thing is really clever or a piece of trash.

I've waited seven years to play this and did it all in one sitting. It is... a lot.
