This game came at a gaming slump for me, I had no interest in playing a Zelda game after my brief experience with Twilight Princess which I rented from Blockbuster back in 2006/7. Holy shit did this game just blow my mind as to what gaming could be, and sent me on a path to play every other 3D Zelda (TP included). I love the franchise now, and I could happily start a 4th new BotW playthrough any day.

Over time Hollow Knight has wormed its way into being one of my all time favourite games. On my first play through it was probably one of the most challenging games I had played (Mantis Lords took me a frankly embarrassing amount of attempts). I beat that first play through with the basic ending in which you just defeat the hollow knight and become the new vessel. I then didn't think much about the game for a couple of years, only picking it up here and there to show friends who I thought might enjoy it. Recently, after watching Jerma's play through, I had a hankering to play again, this time my tolerance for challenge much higher, and I beat it achieving the true ending and defeating The Radiance (fuck you radiance), and properly taking in the lore. This game is without doubt the best metroidvania I've ever played, with Super Metroid coming at a relatively close 2nd.

A perfect game for a lockdown. I felt such a sense of community with my friends as we all discovered what this game had to offer, and anxiously waiting for the next day to see what new development was in store. A genuine source of happiness in an otherwise dreary situation.

Holy shit 2D Zelda's are so fun. I hugely enjoy the atmosphere and world building of the 3D Zelda's, they are generally just such a vibe wether the gameplay holds up or not. But the gameplay of Link's Awakening is top tier. The puzzles, exploration, and simplistic combat are just so fun. I love the toy aesthetic too. Only a half star knocked off for some confusing backtracking and figuring out what to do to get to the next dungeon.

The perfect Smash Bros imo. Over my last year of uni this was a part of the nightly routine. Home, dinner, tv, Smash, bed. Where's the shower in that list you ask? We played Smash is my answer.

I started playing this because I saw SuperMega's playthrough and a week later the creator came to talk at my university. Super cool game, super cool guy.

Monopoly is fun but this game's online functionality sucks.

A sleeper hit for me, I enjoyed this game when I played it on Wii U, but became slightly obsessive in 100%ing it on switch. I never got there sadly, having to play through every single level with each playable character, including the near impossible champions road level, is a bit beyond me. Bowser's Fury is also an amazing bit of dlc, it's fairly short but somehow transforms the building blocks of 3D world into a completely new and fresh experience.

The best Mario Kart to come out, worth buying twice.

This game had me getting up at 7am on a weekend to beat my sister to the tv so I could play all morning.

Fuck super monkey ball this is where its at

Arguably the best soundtrack to a video game. Keita Takahashi seems like a cool guy.

Really fun for like 30 minutes to an hour but becomes extremely repetitive.

Genuinely such a fun co-op game.

This game is excellently made and adds so much to an already rich game. TotK had a strangle hold on my life over the month it came out, and I loved exploring every part of it. The things I preferred in this game to BotW was the heightened level of freedom to get from one place to another, you truly feel like you can do anything. The music, whilst I do really like BotW's minimalistic score, Colgera's boss music singlehandedly pulls this score ahead. And the fact that each major dungeon is actually themed to the location on the map. However the sense of tangibility and immersion was lacking slightly for me. That freedom to do whatever you wanted was almost like a constant reminder that you are playing a video game. One of my favourite parts of BotW was simply picking somewhere on the map and walking there and seeing what I'd see on the way. I felt like that very simple feeling of traversal and exploration was slightly lost in this. Also the puzzles on the main dungeons were very bad unfortunately.
Still an amazing game and lived up as a sequel and an expansion of ideas 100%.
