I will put 3 on this because I made this game so giving this a huge score is cheating. Also, the game development is not finished and I'm not fully satisfied with this yet.

Gotta update half-star up, because this game is getting closer to my ideal with enough dev works.

Magenta is an uncertain color. It’s a color spectrum beyond the visible purple, and since our eyes can’t receive it, we just replaced it with the average of red and purple and call it that way. It’s a recent day I found out that my second favorite color (the first being deep blue) has that story behind it, but knowing the story made me think of a thread for the conceptual work; the land of uncertainty.

When I was making that concept work, I was miserable, as my main job wasn’t satisfying at all and my side projects were ruined by a chain of misfortunes and my terrible choices. Chaotic overthinking was devouring my life, and my failure as a game dev cast a shadow over my confidence.

One thing good about being an artist is that there’s a way to express negative emotions via mediums, and it can be a catalyst for personal growth or even a pride of conqueror.
At that moment, I wanted to express the feeling of navigating through the uncertainty, organizing the chaotic situations with improvised methods, and the frenetic flow of my train of thought.
And I had to do it all alone because only I can make this work to be true, only I would take the burden of work, and only I wanted to conquer it.

So that’s how the concept of Magenta Horizon was born and the world was set in the afterlife. It’s a good place to start the concept work as the purple spectrum has some connotation with death in many cultures, but also there is an excuse to draw tons of grotesque monstrosity -my go-to drawing subjects-.
Personally, I’m not spiritual at all, but the afterlife setting can be a canvas for the world of aimless chaos, especially if the world after death is only a purgatory full of demons, and no heaven or hell exists. It’s a story about a little reaper from a human-led soul sanctum, and she has to find the meaning of her existence in this barren land. Even though in a literal sense, I didn’t suffer as much as the protagonist of this scenario, I tried to reflect my own experience in the story about tidying up the uncertainty and overcoming the odds.

Also, I wanted this setting to be expressed via my favorite genre of video game - Combo-action games. Not many games can provide the feeling of conquering and mastering hectic situations like the Devil May Cry series or the 3D Ninja Gaiden series do. Enemies come from below to rip and tear you apart. At first, you will feel panic. The erratic movement of foes doesn’t make sense at all and your options are too broad and vague to fully utilize at first. But you get a grip one by one. Each erratic chess piece reveals its pattern one by one, and you start to punish them accordingly. And then, you start to play with them, making your own comfort zone in the most stressful situation. Failures will be there, but that’s okay. You still learn from it. And after all that, the mountain of enemies is no more, chaos is calmed down, and the game pats your back with a good score.
That’s the feeling of conquering Magenta I wanted to capture.

This work might not be the most intuitive thing you will ever find in the market.
The tutorials are rough, the visuals and music are both noisy, and the obstacles don’t wait for their turns and rush at you. It will be an intimidating experience for most people.
But if you are ready to accept and embrace the premise I’m pitching, I urge you to try it out.
"Soar over purgatory and reap all the foes."

4/5. I'm getting there.

This game change my views in videogame, and my life. The story is exquisite, the narration and voice acting top notch for the time of release. The music is really great and the gameplay is interesting, i really like the mechanic of change from spiritual plane to real world. Kain is a great villain and really like is new design. Raziel is iconic. 5/5 game i really recommend.

one of the greatest arguments for having silent protagonists

Don't think you're the hero, be the hero

this game, elite beat agents, and gitaroo man are all the proof i need to happily declare iNiS as the kings of rhythm games. a plethora of genres intertwined yet every song feels connected thematically. the note tapping is silky smooth and glides along to the beat naturally. all of this coated with a thick layer of inspirational emotional motivation and personal charm, presented strongly with a fun-filled artstyle. ends on such a gleeful note that erupts a certain fanfare inside all of us. transcends the boundaries of language with music as a device to communicate with the human spirit. reaches the zenith of the mountain and then shoots for the stars. bursting with overwhelming charisma. this is what video games are all about. goddamn.

Mods 3DS
Downloads a bunch of critically acclaimed JRPGs like Chrono Trigger and TWEWY
Downloads this because a couple lists I looked at said it was good
Keep playing this because of how fun it and the other modes are while I still haven't started the games I modded the damn thing to play

Bayonetta is a franchise that's always meant a lot to me. The drama surrounding the release of this has been absolutely disheartening. I lost a lot of respect for what I considered to be one of my favorite voice actresses and the way it was handled by Kamiya especially was very awful. This had quickly gone from my most anticipated game of the year (or perhaps ever really) to something I felt sick thinking about it. I wasn't sure what to do. Seeing the way Taylor muddied the waters of an important topic for personal gain, throw the new voice actress under the bus and then for the cherry on top asks people to donate to an anti-choice organization just fucking blew my mind. And then finally the previews and reviews started rolling in. Reading and hearing people talk about the game made me feel like I could finally get excited again. I was able to get it a day early and just the experience of completely ignoring the internet until I finished it was such a relief. The gameplay is refined from what I already thought was perfect for me to basically just the next level perfect. I'm a fan of all the changes and everything they keep the same. The story wasn't necessarily the direction I was anticipating but in the same vein I enjoyed it a lot more than I would of thought. Even if you're not a fan of it the gameplay alone is more than enough to keep you engaged. Genuinely such a blast to play and experience. For a franchise I once thought would be dead forever to get an entire trilogy and shine even through unfortunate controversy is not what obliviously gay thirteen year old me sitting and playing this christmas morning would of ever expected. I'm glad to of gotten to play these each at a pretty pivotol moment in my life. I wholeheartedly loved this and even as I'm writing this review I am starting up a second playthrough to explore the mechanics more thoroughly.

Jennifer Hale is a great Bayonetta.

I love love this game!! 😮 The guy who inspired them to make Disco Elysium. 😉 The combat is 🤢 but the story is 👍. But Disco Elysium made a good update on the mechanic!!! 🧑‍🔧 No combat, only story... 📖 It's got like a very very long ass 🍑 story... it's like reading a thousand page book!! 😮 Very entertaining nonetheless. 🤷‍♂️ Good job on them. 👍 Bravo!! 👏

I have no problem with the game as such, but with the localization.

It FRUSTRATES me how such stupid mistakes were made with the love that the remake had. It feels like disrespect.

I'm not going to do spoilers, but from the huge shit they did with Pogo's word "love" replacing it with a generic scream, the extremely pretentious dialogue at times, to other nonsensical changes like the name of some oersted's phobias (who never was portrayed as someone with unpleasant overtones, but as a little tragic protagonist.) and the disconcerting change to the iconic original final speech.

Sometimes it seems that the localizer is a frustrated writer or seems to want to emulate the dialogue of other games to one that DOESN'T HAVE IT. You probably won't mind so much if this is your first time playing it, but as a passionate fan of the first game, I'M FRUSTRATED that I can't say for sure that this is the ultimate live a live experience. Hopefully one day a fan is willing to make a patch that fixes these problems (which the Japanese version does not have) and thus be able to have a more faithful and polished version.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Not a proper review yet but this is one of my favorite games and I created a comprehensive Google Doc for newcomers interested in trying Persona 2 that I wanted to share. Proper review coming when I replay the duology this winter.

It's like the chad version of Persona 3.
