Tonight's Episode: The Writer's Barely-Disguised Fetish

So, after the absolute mess that was A Realm Reborn, I was a bit nervous to continue with the game. Yeah...turns out, they actually got their shit together. Heavensward is a massive improvement, both gameplay- and story-wise. Well, except for Bismarck, that arc just came and went with absolutely no fanfare.

Surprisingly difficult, and a really fun time. I have no prior experience with DKC, but this was a great first time.

Picross if it was an RPG. No, I am not joking, there is a battle system and equipment in this game. Past that, Final Fantasy fanservice combined with an already good and chill style of puzzle, I can get behind this.

Some noticeable early installment weirdness, mainly recycled microgames and the counter starting at 0 instead of 1. But it doesn't take away from the core of the game - a well-executed, super fun and delightfully weird game that would go on to become a fairly beloved and consistently quality series.

Oh, hey, the first GBA game I ever owned! Not a great first impression, either. I was only 12 at the time, but even then, I could tell this was mediocre as all hell. The weird, janky physics combined with gimmicks that add nothing to the game... You can't even make eggs, for heck's sake. This is barely a Yoshi game, much less a good game.

A nice collection that does a good job modernizing these old handheld games, without changing the core gameplay. If you prefer the old LCD games over the modern reskins, those are here too.

Good game to idle on the title screen for 40 seconds in.

Had to cheat to finish this as a kid. Absolutely insane difficulty spike for a Yoshi game. Otherwise, pretty good.

An authentic middle school band experience.

OK, so this is really good, I have no complaints with the game itself. But my GOD, its fans need to simmer the fuck down.

Played this one years back. Surprisingly, performance isn't that bad for a Musou game on the 3DS. Writing is utter nonsense, but the gameplay makes up for it.

The single worst player base I've ever seen. In a game this geared around multiplayer, it's pretty much impossible to ignore.

Incredibly cheesy, in the best way possible. Combat is legitimately fucking fun; being one of the pioneers of the "stylish action" genre, I don't think I need to explain further. A bit confusing and inconsistent with its mission setup, and the camera is fucking atrocious, but generally, it's aged fairly well.

Would be a pretty good game if it actually ran. Lmfao. Will come back to it if we get a performance upgrade or something to the Switch, but I'm not bothering on the base Switch.
