almost a perfect game, really, if not for the unfortunate pacing issues in the last third... going from political intrigue and breaking out of prisons and into palaces and all kinds of fun shit to dungeon and ruin diving was a mistake, but mistakes happen

gameplay ruled, characters ruled

hot take: vaan and penelo are actually good characters, they never get in the way of the story but are there to support the main characters when it matters and then back the fuck away when it matters! as usual the internet is full of shit and probably illiterate! D:

vayne going full cyborg god freak at the end was probably the biggest hiccup, it really came out of nowhere, but if i let every weird nonsensical thing ruin a work for me i'd hate most things and that's boring

gambits, bring em back! also gimme an if block!

oh and also: the best remaster they've done, unless you count the pixel remasters, which are full on remakes in unity, so i don't, and it's a real fucking shame they didn't put this much effort and polish into their other remasters... maybe one day

a fairly mediocre pixel souls like but I kinda liked that it wasn't that hard

2014

good lil puzzle game

WAY TOO MANY PUZZLES!

not actually a real criticism but the way i play games i just prefer them to be shorter so THERE

i guess if i had any criticism it's that there's no new mechanics once you settle into it fairly early on and i dunno i think that's a shame

same as first game but now I can EXPLODE every 55 ish kills? nice nice

i got this game on or near launch and played a ton of it but never finished all the achievements

picked it back up recently and hey nice a lot of new content! also the achievements are harder to get now oops

anyway good game i like farming and all that shit in video games so hey!

a story of a world in decay told through a farm and old lady in decay receiving letters from long tossed out family members

the clunkiness of taking care of the farm was pretty frustrating, but that quickly gave way to "who even cares about this farm, i can't do anything anyway, the world is dying", so i mean... i dunno if there are different endings if you do a better job of taking care of the farm, but the one i got was pretty sad i guess!

i dunno maybe i just wasn't in the right mood for it, that happens sometimes

2018

played it in exploration mode cause I remembered hearing the game was way too frustrating on survival mode and that was one hundred percent the right choice

kinda slogged at first but eventually feel into a good rhythm, and then eventually got way too hard even in exploration

honestly kinda wish the game didn't have any combat, buuuuut despite all that I just loved the atmosphere, as cliche as it is

"we have pikmin at home"

but actually really good?

biggest complaint is I wanted a way to mass control so my lil dudes at once instead of only being able to toss one at a time but I eventually set up a turbo button and that made it less annoying

besides that, very much just pikmin with a different (very pretty!) outfit and some extra light mechanics sprinkled on top

realllllllly not my kind of game, an fmv dating sim taking place during the covid lockdown in the UK, picked it cause I got it in some recent monthly humble bundle and wanted to see if I could find anything to like in it and well... to give it as much credit as I can, I guess some of the characters were likable (esp your best bud, everyone needs a best bud like that), but man I could not make myself emotionally care about actually succeeding in any of the dates beyond actively cringing when I would intentionally choose bad responses to go for the worst ending achievement (to fail all three of your initial dates)...

I've played a decent number of CAPITALISM BAD games but Going Under might be the most consistently clever, funny, and real about its theme than any other I've played, despite literally being about an AI trying to hack humanity's souls through the use of arcane objects spawned from human greed and failure

that lost achievement for beating the impostor a bunch of times sure was really fuckin hard tho

three solid attempts over the course of like five years and i made it further this time but i give up i just hate this game i'm sorry to say

zero compelling characters

ugly world

filled with pointless shit

boring mechanics

not for me i guess

falls into the category of "psychedelic click em up", nothing too special going on here mechanics wise but it's fun to watch all the little cartoon bits and bobs interact with each other

so it's supposed to take place in (or at least start in) new york but wow there's a lot of non american accents... or am i wrong about it taking place in new york?? the longer it went on the more i questioned my own sanity, which i guess is appropriate to everything that happens in the game

honestly i loved it, the only mark against it is i feel alex and harold's stories felt... completely separate? like it was just a coincidence they happened to be heading in the same direction, rather than anything meaningful, which i would've also dug if that felt intentional, like if there was a third character instead of the third chapter being about alex again?

which brings us to the third character... kat

hilarious that the game teases a sequel to come out in 2016, but uh that didn't work out i guess ):

hopefully one day the developer manages to finish it! (according to a steam post... end of this year?? seems they've had a lot of Real Life Shit type trouble throughout the years, so i'm pullin for em)

pretty good game with a nice climax but also the gameplay was waaaaay too slow but apparently that didn't stop me from finishing it so hey

also even tho I liked the ending the meta fourth wall shit sure did feel like it came out of nowhere, but it also worked, so... hey

they took away my walls

THEY TOOK AWAY MY WALLS
