I have less to say about this game than my left nose hairs so I'm just gonna paste part of a convo I had about 2D mario on twitter
it's so funny how 2D Mario is put on this untouchable pedestal of peak gaming by the whole world, but if you just play any other 2D platformer (even in the same franchise) they get so outclassed in record time

gonna try to sneak in more than two sentences for this one because holy shit
how do you make a game that's simultaneously overbloated and not bloated enough at the same time. each level only has the most bare minimum requirements to be classified as a full level. and 95% of them only last a good 30 seconds mind you, so there's no time for them to develop and no time to get invested in any of them. and there are a good 60+ of these barebones levels. have fun
this is everything I don't like about 2D mario summed up in one game

well, the levels have an incentive to engage with them now, so it's an improvement over what came before
2D mario is at it's best when it's being the least 2D mario possible
it's still not mind blowing but it's kinda insane how much of a glowup this is compared to what we got in the good old days and how well it still holds up in general
it's very in character for 2D mario to pump out something that's actually super good then immediately ruin it by taking inspiration from some of my least favorite places in the franchise
why does this have some of the best level designs I've ever seen in a 2D mario game
