(horse emblem, here we go)

i personally, REALLY like genealogy. it won't be enjoyed by some, but depending on how you like your fire emblem games you're either gonna love it or hate it i feel

you can tell some units are just built completely different. sigurd is a pre-promoted lord who gets a silver sword on the first chapter, and once you get 50 kills you get a critical bonus on it, meaning more likely than not, sigurd is going to one-round every unit in the game

then part 2 happens

shit does not change. mfs with wind tomes giving them +20 spd, ares simply existing, etc.

genealogy is a power fantasy game and i love it

i think three houses is pretty good actually

i like the characters and the general concepts of the story, about how three sides wage war with one another and you get to pick which side you want to support n whatnot--but at the same time the game gets extremely repetitive after a while and maps are sometimes a slog to get through.

that being said though its probably one of the better modern fe games that we've had in a while! i like the character's, their designs and the aesthetic of the game.

yuri is so cool

the stepping stones to eventually one of the greatest RPGs (in terms of gameplay youll catch me dead before i praise the story)

aged poorly but still pretty alright i think. combat is kind of stiff no thanks to the game physics kind of sucking ass. but music and atmosphere bangs

(strictly a book 2 review, book 1 has legit two other ways to play through it i ain't doing that again)

book 2 is hell of a lot better than book 1. you can tell after the first two they had a general idea of what they wanted fire emblem to really become. i'd say FE3 kind of left the bookmark in terms of rules that future installments would have to have as a baseline

the story is a bit more dark, with prior allies that you fought alongside with in book 1 turning traitor and hunting down marth. so you have that threat to worry about, alongside some other world ending dragon trying to run your fade

gameplay runs a lot more smooth as you'd expect, the jump from NES to SNES is a pretty big dealio

overall its ok. once again, recommending the DS port over this one

(i played this on an emulator, teehee)

honestly i can't shit on this game too hard? because it's nintendo's first attempt at a strategy RPG on the NES, you honestly cannot be too critical without tearing it up inside out.

and honestly? it isn't horrible, necessarily--but it suffers from the fact that everything is so damn SLOW. inventory management, general game speed, chapters being slogs by virtue of them being too big or having too many enemies, frequently both at the same time.

granted it was their first attempt. if you want to play this game, i highly recommend the DS port as it's generally just a better time.

a game carried by its battle system. im not sure if ive felt this way about a game's story before but its definitely something. but holy fuck the music. and battle system. this shit blew my mind as a kid, fayt leingoat is consistently on timing

would've been a 5 if it had a good story. if you play the game for the battle system and ignore facets of the story you WILL love this game if you like fast paced action RPGs

for a gameboy pokemon game, you'd expect to be clunky and feel rough to play. nope its sick. ive replayed this on hardware multiple times this game is pure soul

(we like ike)

probably my favorite FE game? thracia is high up there as well

gameplay is super solid, chapters are for the most part, well designed, characters are well developed and for the first time, our protagonist isn't of regal status--he's a dude who runs into issues BECAUSE some kingdoms are waging war

i don't know i think because this game is so vastly different to its predecessors its that much cooler. idk its awesome

(another emulator game, what a surprise)

gaiden is weird. as a sequel it doesn't really share anything from its prior game other than general gameplay, but most of the classes function differently: like units have a single item slot to hold either a weapon or an item that serves a different purpose. you honestly cannot compare the two, they are vastly different gameplay experiences.

gaiden's alright though, better than fe1 at least. i only say this because there becomes a point where units get so broken that you can take care of the chapters with ease. the music fucks, though

played and finished this game at a friend's house at 2am. genuinely mindfucking experience i love it

as the mystery of mary gradually unfolds before you and you begin to see what really happened between the two, it only gets enhanced by the OST and the atmosphere adding that much more pressure on you. i never felt so uneasy playing a game which is insane to me, ive never really played games like that before

the shotgun carried tf out of me

note that i've ONLY played re4 remake. i haven't played re4 original so people making the comparison may have a point but i came into re4r without any experience w the game prior

the game is genuinely a good time! the plot is kind of corny but based on what i hear about re4 it's supposed to be and it DOES have a lot of charm in application.
inventory management is a whole lot of fun, using the right weapons for the right situation is also a good time and when i heard ashley is practically a walking escort mission i was afraid but honestly it isn't bad at all.

HYAUH

might be a biased review, but genuinely probably one of my favorite RPGs of all time which is crazy considering i know nothing about the story

the review applies to kh2 vanilla and kh2 fm, imo they're both interchangeable aside from some added content and whatnot:
the gameplay feel from kh1 to kh2 is genuinely insane. they upped their game crazy--adding combo modifiers to alter your approach dependent on build, different forms with different abilities and the addition of limit moves to partner with allies (jack skellington my beloved)

roxas's prologue can kind of drag but i think narratively its really cool. also not sure if intentional but if it is then roxas purposely feeling more sloppy and inexperienced in comparison to when you get sora is actually really cool--giving him the same air and ground combo to sora in kh1. its just really cool design

goofy looks cold as fuck in the box art too

if i remember correctly, i think i played during 1.6. that was when the game was getting optimization and gameplay updates--so that during gameplay it wouldn't be a bug filled mess. it still sort of is a bug filled mess, but not to the extreme that it used to be.

the game is an enjoyable experience from start to finish. nothing completely mind-blowing but still lots of fun. lots of different unique ways to build your character and gradually upgrade your cyberware into eventually becoming unkillable: which in a way, isn't really fun necessarily--but i heard that 2.0 changes a lot gameplay wise so i'll make updates accordingly if my opinion changes regarding it, probably in the phantom liberty review i'll make eventually.

V's relationship with Johnny is honestly really neat, too. from understandably hating each other to gradually outright understanding each other, seeing their interactions take place as V slowly loses their grip is satisfying and makes you feel a connection to the character, which is really neat.

overall it's a fun game. i like it a lot.

(i love thracia)

thracia is almost the perfect fe game. thracia is considered by many to be the hardest fire emblem game (excluding shit like lunatic+ and all that, that isn't really "hard", it's more just bs imo) because a lot of the chapters are enemy sided. they're usually equipped with siege weapons like ballistae and siege tomes, enemies can have leadership stars to increase their general army's stats by a tad, fatigue can exhaust a unit making them undeployable in the next chapter unless you use a stamina drink, etc.

again, it can be a bit annoying when you're the one getting beaten and worn down per chapter--but imo that's the fun of it all. defying the odds and all that shit
