The Game: "We have this villain who has a personal connection to Miles but she wants to take down this big corporation, who has been endangering people with their products, through aggressive means"

Me: "wait isn't that a good thing why are we fighting her"

The game: frantically shuffles papers "Uh, um... uh, she also wants to destroy Miles' neighbourhood, go fight her :)"

This DLC rises above the main game because it dares to put Alan Wake in a place other than 'The Woods', has a few legitimately great setpieces, focuses on a split personality (a Remedy specialty), and, most of all, allows you to finallly kill Barry.

Talking flowers, really?

This series has been around for god knows how long and the kids who grew up with the original game on the NES are old enough now to collect social security. So why does the series continue to go for the kiddie audience instead of appealing to his actual fans, the adults? Think of how awesome a Mario game where he swears and uses mushrooms like drugs would be. Such a shame that the lazy devs don’t understand what the real fans want.

honestly not as jank as i expected. as someone who is a huge fan of miserable art, i really enjoyed both the story and the presentation. stylistically speaking, this is one of the most striking games i've ever played. the environments you traverse, especially ones dotted with bright signage and flashing lights, are beautifully distorted by the "lens" of the camera. i know the camera shake when running is controversial, but i really do like it. honestly, i really like the ending, too. there is no real closure and we don't get to know what happens to kane or lynch. it just ends. the soundtrack and voice acting are also phenomenal.

I was walking down a hallway when I was suddenly carpet bombed and all my Pikmin died.

She elden on my ring till i'm far fromsoft

"the Like a Dragon characters star in a period piece" was such a charming concept that I tried to imagine other videogames doing the same thing but realized no other videogame has a cast large enough or good enough to pull it off

Went in completely blind and I wouldn't wish not doing the same on my worst enema. A genuine technical marvel and a tremendous testament to the importance of atmosphere as the primary vehicle for horror. This is what games are about, folks.

Sincerely think the metatextual elements are handled crazy good here. The mod being sourced from a forum post that links to a Google Drive where an uninitiated player (me) can just accidentally download and play the wrong file is so fucking good as a disarming technique - one of many mindful off-putting flourishes that compound as the layers of the .wad reveal themselves. Even the approach to the starting line feels sloppy and homebrewed in a way you don't get on the Steam/Itch store. It's understandable for folk to be wary of any game that tries to build a mythos surrounding the playable executable, but the supplementary material here is so lean and evocative. You won't stop the doe-eyed youtubers from demystifying and theorizing shit into perfectly solvable mulch, but My House only wishes for a slightly transactional push+pull on your curiosity to find the clues for progression in the .txt.
At its absolute strongest when it isn't aping the liminal spaces cinematic universe wholesale. While it's pretty cute that the dev realised these areas in such a fully-fledged manner under such oppressive engine limitations, I can't help but wish I wasn't seeing the same ol' thing.
Ending made me choke up. Doggy........

Want to give the dev a big wet sloppy kiss for having the chutzpah to release a horror title without a fucking audio jumpscare. This man is not a coward.

"Buddha, how does one reach Nirvana?"
"Take this my son, and learn from it."
"But Buddha, you just gave me Ikaruga™ (2001)."
"Everything happens for a reason. Don't question it, trust it"

tfw this is one of the lowest games on the site cuz people dont realize this is ff4

This game's credits are a full hour long and copy/paste the entire legalese documentation .txt files of every licensed software used for its creation, in multiple different languages, all while a single song continuously plays, fades out, and then eventually loops. God tier shitposting

in an era defined by the demand for remasters, remakes, updates of successful works, it'd be easy to insist you leave this one to the gamefreaks and just play the impeccable REmake instead

but you'd miss out. this game has an utterly unique look and feel -- rooms lit strangely and painted in sickly yellows, browns and greens, as if the house itself has gone rotten. rooms in REmake look like, well, rooms -- incredibly lit, atmospheric rooms. rooms in resident evil don't look like any room you've ever been in outside of a dream. the zombies shuffle and pivot jerkily and make funny noises, but that doesn't stop a lucky pair from stun-locking you to an instant death if you underestimate them. the music shifts between mocking you and terrifying you, because the fact that something's a bit camp wouldn't stop it from eating you alive

the first zombie scene hits hard in this game due to inconsistent details. the zombie's face looks more like just some old guy than a monster. the half-chewed head is so strangely clean, as if willing flesh was merely sucked from it, not chewed. go watch the FMV again, look at how oddly out-of-scale the zombie is compared to the tea room. guy looks like he'd be about 9 feet tall

absolutely play resident evil. the non-dual-shock director's cut has some cool features for returning players, but the original is just fine too.
