faea gaming: July 2023

thought it would be fun to catalogue all games I played in a month, regardless of how long i actually played them for. lets me give brief thoughts on games I wouldn't have a chance to talk about otherwise. starting halfway through the year because I probably forgot a lot from earlier in the year oops

I log any game here that I played for any amount of time, which is why there ends up being so many games

Fire Emblem Gaiden
Fire Emblem Gaiden
Completed - Review
Hope they make a new version of this with an improved RN system or something, I think that would be awesome. Shame something like that would never happen haha
Katamari Damacy
Katamari Damacy
Completed
Ball :) I wanted to revisit this one just because I wasn't so hot on WLK tbh, glad it wasn't me just finding Katamari less fun than I remember because I still like this one a whole lot
Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
In Progress (CH7)
Map design more exhasting than FE1 that's mystery of the emblem baybee!!!
Pikmin
Pikmin
Shelved (Dropped?)
Like everything apart from the gameplay a lot but that itself felt a bit underwhelming? I'm quite far in, could probably beat the game in an hour or two but idk if I want to?
Diablo
Diablo
Shelved (Dropped?)
I love love LOVE the aesthetic here but just like D2 I get really bored of the actual gameplay really fast. Like it's okay enough when I'm playing it but I never want to pick it back up
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
Shelved
My front room is too much of a mess to play this right now :x I will return once either my parents move their stuff out (impossible challenge) or when I move back out after the summer
Mighty Jill Off
Mighty Jill Off
Completed - Review
Pokémon FireRed Version
Pokémon FireRed Version
Shelved (Dropped?)
I started playing it but the whole time I felt like I could just be playing Gen 1 instead and having a better time
Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition
Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition
Completed - Review
So I did :)
Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath - Vengance of the Slayer
Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath - Vengance of the Slayer
Completed
Sad about this one, I love Hypnospace a lot but the aesthetic of this one felt like it was trying to carry the entire game. Didn't really enjoy playing, spent far more time looking for keys and doors than actually moving through the levels
Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves
Played
I like the idea of this infinitely more than I like actually playing it
Tunic
Tunic
Dropped
Only gave it a go because I found out that I could effectively turn off the combat (you could not describe something less appealing than topdown/isometric soulslike melee combat), but the little I played was so full of enemies and combat that honestly I dropped before I could try that. It's clear that the combat is a large part of the game, and I don't really want to play the half-game that's left if I turn that off
Terraria
Terraria
In Progress (1.0.6.1)
Interesting little project to remind myself what old Terraria was like since I'm so mixed on the modern game. I feel like if I wanted the *best* experience I probably should have played 1.2 on Expert but ah well I'm in it now
Hi-Fi Rush
Hi-Fi Rush
Completed
I don't like this genre and it was so overstimulating at some points that it made my head hurt so it's an incredible testament to how strong this game is that I still enjoyed it quite a lot!
One Night, Hot Springs
One Night, Hot Springs
Completed (one 'good' ending)
This month was a good reminder that I do not connect with queer media at all, regardless of if it's meant to be 'about' me or not. The ending I got was nice enough but I'm also put off by this 'ending-hunting' style of VN and it was definitely noticeable that I didn't get the whole story
Hypnospace Outlaw
Hypnospace Outlaw
Completed
God I love this game so much
Pentiment
Pentiment
Shelved (dropped?)
Seems cool but tbh I'm finding the moment to moment a little boring and I'm also not huge on the "This will be remembered" popping up on like half the things I say lol, I'd rather find out that my actions have consequences a bit more organically
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Shelved
This early bit sucks so bad lol
Pokémon White Version
Pokémon White Version
In Progress
I like it but easily my least favourite one so far. Instead of explaining why, I want to talk about how I put a GTS trade up and called my offer NiknamePls and the person who traded me did actually bother to give it a cute nickname for me so it fits with the rest of my team!
Non-Binary
Non-Binary
Completed(? I think I got cut short on both stories but I don't really feel like doing them again)
Physically struggled to read it with all the moving parts
McPixel 3
McPixel 3
In Progress
Sometimes you just gotta play some dogshit lol. Tbf huge props to the game for actually being decent at times and even having some neat jokes
Pokémon Silver Version
Pokémon Silver Version
In Progress (4 badges)
If you love Gen 2 but haven't played Silver you owe it to yourself just because it has tons of unique sprites compared to G/C
Dishonored
Dishonored
In Progress
Idk not really feeling this one? Maybe I'm not looking for the 'cool' solutions but I've never felt a reason to *not* just do the same few things over and over in every situation. Feels so routine!
Ridge Racer Type 4
Ridge Racer Type 4
Completed (but the credits roll after like an hour)
Gotta admit I was more than apprehensive given my track record with popular racing games but holy crap... I get it...
Armored Core
Armored Core
In Progress (8 missions)
Seems really cool but my hands ache and my turnspeed is slower than my brain and I'm getting farmed by this one red guy and I'm savescumming losses even though I feel like I shouldn't be and-

i had some friends get really into sea of thieves a while back and i wanted so badly to understand what they saw in the game. the game as a concept sounds good but every time i play it, it feels a little like homework

@jobosno that's pretty much where i'm at as well, bunch of friends got into it and it seemed interesting so i wanted to give it a go, they're still playing pretty much daily but i haven't wanted to open it up more than like twice

Tunic's combat is so damn awful, and I love how their idea of accessibility was just throwing some measly game genie codes at me so I could try to jog past everything instead of just having an easy mode.
