Getting back into this. I love this game but have played a ton more deck builders since putting it down. No idea what the 4th character even is.

Update - beating ass now

2022

Gave it a shot but I just can't do it after Death's Door and Link's Awakening.

This review was written before the game released

I'm liking this so far, but matchmaking isn't super hot right now and the perk system makes that imbalance extra shitty. It's FTP though so can't complain, especially in beta.

Gameplay feels tight and responsive, characters are very unique, and attack decay is the best thing I've seen added to a fighting game - not sure if it exists elsewhere as I'm not big on the genre

It feels easy enough to grind the in-game coins for all of the character unlocks. Money is all cosmetic except for the battle pass (which only contains gold and cosmetics). I got the battle pass for shits because it's $3.

I can tell this is a game that won't take long to force out casual players due to the skill ceiling involved, especially in 2v2. Hoping once ranked unlocks that that is mitigated.

It feels like the developers are putting actual care into this game, so I'll keep it on deck for awhile.

Can't do it. Didn't catch me at the right time, but oh well.

2017

This is the best game writing that has ever existed. I will replay this game many times.

I bought the ultimate edition for PS5 so will definitely do another playthough. Loved it.

The writing and voice acting in this game are great. I loved plaything through this game for the most part.

My advice would be to take it one chapter at a time. The combat is tedious and literally everything that isn't dialogue is there to actually make this a video game. Honestly, that's fine with me, and probably great for some audiences.

Problem with it being largely simple mechanically is that the combat is physically challenging on your hands lol. Just kinda boring and visually chaotic.

Game has lots of jank to it as well. Overall though I have to say 4/5 because I thought the story/dialogue was so good.

I got one of the 4 horses of the apocalypse the first time I played, then I lost it so I never played again.

2020

I adore this game and it got me over the idea of not playing "hard" games - I'm a much better player for it and I didn't even play this on a pro controller!

I got pretty far for how hard this game is, it being my introduction to the genre, and playing handheld on the train. I started over on PS5

beat the ass out of this game, should do a premium mode
