I would’ve been happy to have Prince of Persia back in any capacity but the first game in the series in 14 years being this good is more than I could’ve hoped for. This game was a blast from beginning to end, with my momentum only slowed somewhat by some truly punishing platforming and boss fights towards the end. Gorgeous art style and environments, awesome combat, and some of the most exciting platforming I’ve seen for a while. I can only hope we see more from this series in the future.

The odd glitch aside, this still holds up as a fantastic puzzle game. The story, world-building, characters, and writing are now among my favourites in gaming. This is also one of the most consistently funny games I’ve ever played - playing Grim Fandango for the first time was a joy, even if the puzzles did completely stump me more times than I’d like to admit.

I really wanted to love this game but it just never seemed to click with me. I love the music and art style, and the combat is pretty fun for the most part. But I found the majority of the gameplay overly repetitive and the story and characters did nothing for me.

I adore the music, world, and art style of this game. I don’t love the repetitive gameplay. Maybe it works better as a co-op game.

A really solid action RPG and a strong new entry to the franchise. The music and combat were stellar throughout and the story was decent if a bit uninspired at times. I only really connected with around 4 or 5 characters which feels disappointing for a series which usually has really strong ensemble casts, even outside of the playable characters. This is a very personal opinion but I also found the joyless dark fantasy tone very draining after a while.

I can’t help but feel that somewhere amidst all the greatness and messiness of this trilogy lies a perfect standalone FFXIII that probably exists in a parallel universe somewhere. Having said that, I cried a lot during the closing cutscenes of this game, so I can’t allow myself to be anything but extremely happy and grateful that these games exist as they do. They’re far from perfect, but I love them.

Let me play all 17 and a half minutes of Dancing Mad you cowards

When I started playing this game I was worried I had set my expectations a little high. I loved Persona 4, but I just thought this game couldn’t possibly match all the hype I’d heard about it. Turns out I was very very wrong.

This game is definitely a new favourite of mine. The story is great, the characters are fantastic (despite my initial impressions, I ended up loving almost all of them for different reasons), the graphics and general presentation are stunning, the combat remained fun and engaging after 100+ hours. And the music, oh my god the music. Probably among the best I’ve ever heard.

For me, the only very minor drawback was the new girl Yoshizawa. She too often felt out of place in the overarching story and I just didn’t click with her in the way I did with everyone else. And obviously the game isn’t perfect, it’s cheesy as hell and can be cliché and the writing is kind of underwhelming at times, but I loved every second of playing this and am already lining up my first replay. This was an amazing experience.

I just don’t think I like the Zelda games as much as I wish I did

Probably my second favourite game in the anthology so far, after House of Ashes. I understand that these games aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but for those of us who do enjoy them Supermassive do a good job of mixing up the formula and adding new gameplay elements each time, so I can honestly say I haven’t yet found these games to be boring or repetitive, I’m still invested and very excited for season two. I also found this one to be the scariest so far, so I have very few complaints save for a few technical issues I encountered.

Incredible in almost every regard, one of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played.

I haven’t played this game for weeks and I can’t bear even the thought of going back to it. It’s so dull and insubstantial. I’d rather play almost anything else. It’s very pretty, but that’s all I can say for it.

A really interesting game with a unique concept, telling someone’s life story through the places they’ve lived and the items they acquire, keep, and leave behind is a really great idea. The first few levels were pretty relaxing and satisfying, but later levels were a little frustrating for me. I couldn’t always tell what certain small pixely items were, and sometimes the forced placements felt arbitrary. It’s also a little on the short side considering its price, but it’s a really engaging experience nonetheless.

One of the most unique and engrossing games I’ve ever played. Visually stunning with a fantastic soundtrack, this game is an absolute joy to play. My only minor complaint is the Macintosh-style graphics made it difficult for me to discern smaller key details, but this was may have been intentional to some extent. I haven’t been so hooked on a game in months, I would recommend this to everyone.

I’m a little bit taken aback by this one. I enjoyed Bioshock 2 plenty but I didn’t find the story particularly impressive, especially after Bioshock’s stellar story, but this DLC - which I’d almost considered skipping - has a story which comfortably surpassed both prior stories, in my opinion. This truly is the greatest story set in Rapture, and not just the best DLC I’ve ever played but a damn great game in its own right. An absolute must-play.
