Everything they did right in DMC 1 is done even better here. Better over the top action, better skill trees, better game feel and combat that had depth and creativity that my meager thumbs never even touched.

Hard tho... I never even beat it tbh.

I feel like this Battle Royale brought enough quality of life improvements to the genre along with not-entirely-bland characters, good gunplay and fun mobility. QoL stuff that a seasoned FPS dev would know like pointing at things and saying "let's go there". Honestly kind of insane nobody had thought of that shit before.

As close to catching up to Nintendo as they'd ever get. Hell the water effects still are unsurpassed.

Better than Golden Sun so by laws of elimination the best JRPG on the got dang Gameboy Advance. Also some really clever overworld traversal bits if I remember right. Honestly had more in common with like ARPGs like Zelda sometimes.

A good game that can't get out of it's own way. I was a big fan of the original Hot Shot Golf games especially 3 and finally picked this up. The easy to grasp, hard to master simple golf mechanics are still there and the natural golfian drama of watching your putt sail slowly towards the hole, is all still there...

But the game is a fuckin' grind. You don't unlock characters and you gotta grind your ass off to unlock courses. I've put a good 5 or 6 hours into the game and have 2 courses. Each are also only 9 holes. So really... I have one course still. The aesthetic is also hub world based and micro transation heavy so hard to recommend this game even tho it's pretty fun (especially online with friends).

Not as stilted and awkward as the first crash but not as good as the third. Awkward middle phase.

The best RPG to grace the lil purp' cube and the best writing ever found in a Nintendo game. Honestly funnier and more enjoyable than it has any right to be and it has an absolutely insane length without feeling too long. Crazy cool.

Unremarkable in every way. A melted vanilla ice cream cone sitting on top of a garbage can.

Ooooooooh baby.

Who'd a thunk all the sequels after this would suck tho?

Absolutely atrocious by yourself but a blast and a half with friends.

2010

Pretty good. Not as refined, clever and haunting as it's follow up Inside but still pretty good for the time all things considered.

My personal favorite of the Arcade Founding Era. It's got the perfect cocktail of complexity and simplicity with just a few things to keep in mind while you zip around the map in your spaceship.

The game feel and weight of your ship and crunch of your blaster are amazingly well developed for the time. There is a real sense of speed and inertia to navigating in this game which makes catching a human right as they're about to hit the ground all the more satisfying.

A certified stone cold classic.

Between this and the (superior) Xenogears there was a bit of time where JRPGs and Fighting games almost came together. The ability to put in Street Fighter style combos one input at a time helped elevate the combat in this game to a point where it helped make up for the pretty abysmmal story. Something about evil fog and good trees or some shit. Cute polygons tho.

I happened to be a young tween with feelings when I played, so let me tell you. It hit me and it hit me hard. Also this one has the wildest art direction of the PS1 golden era so give it props.

c'mon... how are you not gonna give it 5 stars?
