Obvious choice, but only obvious because no self-respecting Resident Evil fan would fail to see that this game is the peak of like, 5 separate things that define Survival Horror, let alone classic RE.

Well over 10 replays under my belt over the course of like 4 ports. This game was my "I'm bored, what do I do" solution for the entirety of the mid 2000s. I don't know what else to say, it's RE4.

The only classic RE I find to be extremely replayable (REmake is brilliant but it's also exhausting), probably indebted to Kamiya's shockingly good sense of pacing. I played this game too early on and now I'm stuck with licker nightmares.

The classic RE I'm the least familiar with, but I was pretty impressed with it when I played it a few years back. Stellar art direction and some actually interesting puzzle design makes me (almost) forgive the downgrade that is Jill's outfit.

A motherfucking mess! If you people can manage to enjoy MGS4 despite its cavernous issues then let this be my loud, beautiful car crash.

My love of this game has unfortunately dwindled over time, as I don't think it's as future-proof as it once seemed. I played the hell outta this though, and with a no dynamic difficulty mod this game is still more or less what you'd want outta "modern" RE.

This game is probably better than I give it credit but I had never played it until I was intimately familiar with REmake and all the little differences (not to mention the elephant in the room that is Presentation) irked me. A lot of it's still there but RE1 exists mostly to remind me of what gets improved.

This shit is trash, lmao.

"Serviceable" is the word I'd use to describe it, but even then I get why people get fired up about it. Some strengths above RE2make, some weaknesses, I don't know if I'll think about it much more.

I don't remember much about this game but kusoge light gun games are an institution and this medium is better off with them.

The only game in the early lineup that gets its bite (sorry) from sheer sloppiness. While this does make it interesting in a lineup of games that get easier as time goes on, it's kinda a drag! Sorry Billy.

I've only played this because it's easy to emulate a GBC game for 10 minutes and leave without consequence.

I stomached this as long as I could to justify putting it on this list. Incredibly impressive but only for one side of my brain - the other was actively shriveling up.
