I have no idea what happened the last month but apparently I played this poker game for 150 hours so there's that

so good, ended up liking the story way more than i thought i would
also love the guard system, maybe i over relied on it tho, because i felt like i was barely dodging at all xd
only minor thing i can think of rn is that there wasnt a lot of enemy variety, there were like 3 different basic enemy types, but of those 3 there were a lot of variants so it didnt actually feel that bad
looking forward to their next game

the dark souls of puzzle games

the real 700 000 games in 1

Crazy visuals, awesome movement, mind-blowing level design, cool ending, also it had a story i guess
Really wanna try speedrunning this, can't overstate how smooth the movement is, this is truly the schmovement game
also i thought this game came out in 2023, maybe they just spent way more on marketing for the switch release than the original release in 2021? idk but I definitely heard more about it this year personally

This review contains spoilers

Last game I played in 2023 woo
What a year for games, it's so fucked up how many GREAT, not just good, but GREAT games came out this year, this one included
This game is another one of what feels like a million gorgeous indie games that came out this year, the tilt-shift effect fits so well here and makes everything look so pretty
Liked the juxtaposition between light and dark throughout the game, like when you first step into the light with all the white flowers after spending the whole first of the game in the dark during the night, and how the same flower field is burnt to a crisp later on, love it
The platforming was very fun, and the Näcken chase sequence was maybe my favorite section of the game
All the boss fights were fun and engaging
Gameplay was kinda repetitive i guess, it's all just platforming and hiding behind stuff to either not get caught or not get blasted by light, but at the same time it never got boring to me, could see others having a different opinion on this though
At the end I feared they were going to blue ball me and not play hall of the mountain king, but thankfully they did and it was a great final boss
Seeing all these nordic folk tales in a game this good also means more to me as a norwegian, was really cool to fight all these mythical creatures I've heard about since I was a child and that are so interwoven into our culture
All in all this was a great way to end 2023, this was like my 10th 9/10+ of the year and that feels like it shouldn't be possible but there really have been that many great games it's crazy

loving all these chill vibe games for vibers that came out this year
really like the variance in puzzle difficulty throughout, like you go from a really easy one to a harder one and then back, feels kinda natural in a way
also this is a contender for prettiest game of the year for sure, when i got to the black and white part i just kept saying "wow" over and over (not out loud obviously im not a psycho)

never really got too into this, which sucks, but it is what it is
it's incredibly short, but I think it's this devs first project so can't be too harsh on that
i think maybe my biggest problem is that theres too much unnecessary stuff here; dialogue, points of interest, even just getting achievements for "checkpoints" every couple minutes got a little annoying and doesn't feel that necessary for a game that, again, is at most around 30 minutes
so yeah, maybe if they just cut back on a lot of that stuff and made the player figure the story out more through the environment and not just reading text boxes i think that could have been cool idk

somehow felt that the first games story was more interesting, or at least told in a more interesting way
and again, not a whole lot of actual gameplay or player interaction at all in this, more than in the previous one but doesn't really say much
some really neat art in this tho, and a cool, atmospheric soundtrack
played through all the endings

Super chill game with an awesome soundtrack and also one of the prettiest games of the year
got some of the coolest puzzles I've ever seen, and I was actually able to figure them out!! crazy
I still looked up one thing but it was me being incredibly dumb not figuring out what basically became the core mechanic for the rest of the game lol
Definitely recommend this, just a really chill time, it's only around 5 hours and it's on gamepass

very short game, took me around 30 minutes i think, even failing twice, but I think the game works pretty well regardless
it tells its story in a pretty interesting way although the self-awareness or "meta" part of it annoyed me a bit
also there isnt really any actual gameplay, just a handful of dialogue "options" where if you pick the wrong one it's just game over, which makes sense in the setting of the story but is still kinda annoying
even with all this, the story still managed to make me feel for the main character and immersed me pretty well so definitely feel like it's a game thats worth checking out, and im gonna play the devs other games for sure

this game is so fucking good man wtf
its just so fun, also made me feel like i actually got good at the game at the end
definitely gonna be playing this a lot more later, seems like it has great replayability and post-game content
Also this has the most unexpected twin peaks reference of the year (aw2 had one too but it was definitely more expected lol)

Definitely not a bad game, but not really for me, also wasn't really in the mood for a game like this while playing it.

Story gets interesting way too late, and all that starting a second playthrough did for me was realize the story is just not really written well, and is one that's kind of seems unique or original, but isn't really and has been done better before.
Nothing that happens really feels like it has any weight to it either, like you dont really feel the consequences of something before moving on to the next thing. Might be because of the way i played the game as well (doing very few sidequests) but idk.

There are a lot of different systems and stuff to do in this game, and to be honest most of them just weren't very interesting to me. I just interacted with them the minimal amount I had to in order to progress and that's it. Especially outpost building and ship building and stuff I just didn't touch.

The game is also very much a fast travel/loading screen simulator and sometimes barely even feels like an open world game because of how many loading screens there are.

With all that said, this is definitely a well crafted world, and it's a world you can get lost in easily. Also didn't expect the amount of very detailed levels although some of them feel a bit copy-pasted from other levels, but still, some areas in this game are like very intricate dungeons and it's definitely not just open, empty wastelands, at least on the planets you visit through the main story.

So anyway, not a bad game, not a good game, don't know if I would recommend buying it but it is on gamepass so you could give it a shot if it seems like a game for you.

This game is probably the biggest in scale out of any game I've ever played, it truly feels impossibly massive in every way. Just thinking about the insane amount of voiced dialogue can make your mind melt (thematically accurate).

Every single part of this is so impressive that, again, it feels like a game that should be impossible to exist.
Now, I do have some issues with it (mainly me not vibing with the combat(skill issue)), but they weren't big issues at all in the big picture.

My score and opinion of this game might change as I play more of it, and I do intend to do other playthroughs (I'm in the middle of a co-op one right now and boy is it fun), and during my last grind to finish it I was sick with covid and played maybe a biiiiit too much (like at least 10hrs a day) so it definitely colored my opinion at least a bit.

Still, this is definitely one of the best games of the year, and that says a lot when the year is 2023.

I can also say that this was my first crpg and I haven't really played anything like this before, and while it was a bit rough in the start, I feel like I got a hang of all the different systems and controls fairly fast. The game is also very well optimized, so while it may seem a bit daunting, there really is no excuse to not give it a shot. Go play it guys!
