Still holds up and is one of the coolest to ever do it.

It was a treat to come back and replay this beautiful game. One of the most daring and insane games that I still have ever experienced. The creativity here is off the charts, and there is even so much beauty in its faults as well. This remaster is pretty solid, it had updates to fix some performance stuff but it still kinda runs like shit sometimes. That didn’t stop me from having a great time though. Perfect game

I wish I was better at writing to explain how special of a game this is. A beautiful world that feels so developed and original. Its universe and setting is dripping with love and creativity. This is a game you get once in a life time. I can’t wait to replay it instantly.

This is a game of all time. The world and mechanics are so engaging and rewarding. Monolith soft perfected the hero/blades type system and quests to be fulfilling and also enhance your gameplay experience. A final fantasy job type system is so perfect for this series that I wish it was here all along. Having everything from the world be in service of your game experience is so flawless here. I didn’t beat the story until 180 hours in because I was glued to the screen with all the high quality side quests, this is such an rpg it’s amazing. I love games that let you really dig your teeth into it’s systems and not be ashamed it’s an rpg full of a million mechanics. It also helps that it explains these systems way better than 2.

The story is so satisfying and the main cast is my favorite yet from the series. Even the minor gripes I have with the game are just removed from my brain when I think about the love I have for the characters, twist/turns, and the more mature themes and ideas here.

I don’t want to put this game down, and it luckily has more to offer with the post game quests and dlc, but afterwards there is going to be a huge void. 10/10 game right here

This review contains spoilers

As someone who has played a majority of the SMT games, this game is a treat, but slightly disappointing.

They crafted a really fun overworld dungeon/open map idea that was pretty fulfilling to explore. My goblin brain loves to collect crap all over maps.

It sucks however that the switch just can’t do this game justice. It’s playable, and I’m not a huge graphics and performance person, but this game is dying for a better resolution and console power. luckily it’s getting that atlus re release treatment, and I’ll for sure be playing that on ps4 instead.

My biggest issue is the endgame area. it does feel kind of rushed. Each of the four gods(Zeus, khonsu, Odin, and shiva) should of gotten their own dungeon. The balancing is awful at the end as well. I have the same issue with smt4/4A but you can just become stupid broken at the end, and they just hand out items like it’s just candy. I played this on hard because i’m experienced with this series and it was a good challenge up until after the lahmu fight.

It may just be me knowing how to build my character/demons in these games but after is when you could feel the quality drop. Both nocturne and strange journey stay consistently engaging with it’s dungeons and bosses till the end.

Also, when will rpgs stop putting super bosses at a higher level than the actual main final bosses?? It is criminal that shiva is level 96. If they were good at making engaging boss fights they would just keep shiva in the 80’s anyway. His mechanics are still hard, why does it have to do with level, you get stronger demons at the 90’s so it makes being a high level pointless cause of the better skills higher level demons can get. Why can’t that optional fight still be optional and not as a high level. I don’t understand. it’s also not as simple as “well just don’t do the true neutral ending then if you don’t want to fight shiva”, ummm no, make the fight better. don’t ruin your own god damn ending atlus. They chose it to be like this and it sucks. (Also all the optional bosses to do the true demon ending in nocturne are at a good level before the last boss and lucifer. it’s actually balanced well and makes sense god dammit.)

Not to be all negative, the game is still a blast. Aesthetically its eye catching and has that SMT flare to it. The music is also some of the best in the series, the vibes in these games are un matched by any other.

oh the story is also fine. Not as bad as people say it is in my opinion, it definitely loses steam after lahmu for me, but I feel as if the later story had the dungeons and creativity to back it up it would be much different.

I’m excited for SMTV vengeance, and i’m glad I got to finally experience the regular game now to compare. It’s no nocturne or strange journey, and I may have complained about it a lot, but SMT just has that special addicting sauce that I can’t hate.

2018

Super beautiful and cute lil game. The platforming and puzzles were simple but enough to keep me engaged. I’m not super into these kind of games usually, I usually like indie games like this to have a little more meat like hollow knight but that’s really not what it’s going for and thats fine.

Of course the best thing about this game was the animation/art direction and music. My favorite sections was the evil goop monster chase sequences. The underwater eel one was particularly thrilling.

I would super recommend this if you want a quick easy game to relax and enjoy. A very pleasant experience for me.

Also I love gris girl’s cube form. It is very chonk and cute

I can not believe it took me this long to play this game. I was in denial for so long, I thought before that, “oh fan carts and emulation are cool but I can just never do it, i’m a pure real hardware girly”. But then I grew up. Finally picking this up from a local game store and not stoping since I first turned it on. Such an insane level of creativity that i’ve never felt before. I’ve only played Mother’s contemporaries such as undertale, but now that i've actually played this game, I can see why it’s so special. The gameplay is super engaging and I love the rhythm combo mechanic, it made paying attention to the great music more satisfying. The flow of the chapters and characters getting all the right amount of development at the right times is just beautiful and well paced. All while being funny and super gay as shit. I love the Magyspies so much.

I also have to mention the sprite work on the gba here is just amazing. I love every single use of color and animation. The gba is such a fun piece of hardware to experience these kind of games on.

Nothing beats the feeling of crying in your bed, dimly lit by you gameboy advance at 3 am cuddled up to your loved one experiencing this devastating art. Such a beautiful and heart breaking game.

“Hey other world.
Be good to Jill”

Wasted my childhood on this shit😔

Gen 2 is such a special generation for me. This gen has gotten way over hated and I refuse to let yall convince me it’s bad. It the most gun little journey pokemon game there is. The rival is great, the journey is satisfying(The level curve is not bad) and the game sprites are gorgeous. Only thing I don’t like still is the pokemon distribution across johto and kanto, but it’s not game ruining.

Really cute game to play with your significant other. genuinely fun puzzle and the change up of mechanics is super neat.

This is such a good zelda game. It’s so enduring and I loved coming back to this world after breath of the wild. The new content and mechanics are so glorious and mind boggling with how they pulled it off. A triumphant game.
