Mount & Blade: Warband
Mount & Blade: Warband
An extremely tough choice, with Civilization V barely nipping at Warband's heels. Honorary mentions to Fallout New Vegas, Mass Effect 2, and Alan Wake.
Minecraft
Minecraft
Honorary mention to Forza Motorsport 4, Driver: San Francisco, and Orcs Must Die! Honestly, not a lot of other games from 2011 I feel that passionately about.
Mark of the Ninja
Mark of the Ninja
Barely edges out Dishonored, but Mark of the Ninja was and still is a phenomenal game, and signaled the start of my love for Klei's work
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead
Were it not for CDDA being my favorite game of all time, 2013 would be a lot more difficult. Honorary mentions go to Project Zomboid, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Gone Home, and The Stanley Parable

Kerbal Space Program
Kerbal Space Program
Looking back, I think I enjoy playing Rocket League more, but nothing else so wholly captivated me in 2015 like Kerbal did. I skipped doing a LOT of math and physics homework to instead launch rockets from Kerbin.
Enter the Gungeon
Enter the Gungeon
Easily one of the hardest years so far. 2016 is full of games that I truly LOVE. Enter the Gungeon is my favorite action-roguelite, and still stands as the perfect blend of RNG run variety and skill-based gameplay, in my eyes.

Honorary Mentions: Factorio, Anatomy, American Truck Simulator, SUPERHOT, Firewatch, Titanfall 2, Dishonored 2, DOOM
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Yet another case of a great year being smoothed over by one of my favorite games releasing. Breath of the Wild is the only Zelda game I've cared about, largely thanks to how it PERFECTLY captures the way I love exploring its world.

Honorable Mentions: PREY, Hover, Hollow Knight, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, Cogmind, Battle Brothers, Tacoma
Return of the Obra Dinn
Return of the Obra Dinn
Yet another of my favorite games rearing its head. Return of the Obra Dinn feels like an impossible design - the only real example of a truly organic-feeling investigative game that I've played. 2022's The Case of the Golden Idol comes close to capturing Obra Dinn's magic, but Lucas Pope still reigns king over this incredibly small genre.

Honorable Mentions: Into the Breach, The Messenger, Hitman 2, Rimworld, Dusk
Outer Wilds
Outer Wilds
Outer Wilds is easily top 3 favorite games of all time for me, so this one's another no-brainer. Not for lack of trying though, my other favorites from the year are stellar!

Honorable Mentions: Slay the Spire, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Disco Elysium, Ape Out, Katana Zero, Night Call
Paradise Killer
Paradise Killer
Man, 2020 was an extremely tough year to pick. My top 5 for the year - Paradise Killer, A Hand with Many Fingers, Wide Ocean Big Jacket, Hades, and Crusader Kings III would all fit perfectly in my #1 spot. Ultimately, Paradise Killer gets the dub here, for its incredible art, writing, sense of humor, and sense of style. Paradise Killer kept me glued to the screen and had me hunting for each and every collectible and optional goal

Honorable Mentions: A Hand with Many Fingers, Crusader Kings III, Wide Ocean Big Jacket, Promesa, Hades
Hitman 3
Hitman 3
Hitman had been one of the only series that I can truly say I enjoy every entry into, and the conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy ties such a wonderful bow to the end of the latest releases that I can't help but list it here. It certainly gains bonus points for its inclusion of levels from its two predecessors, but the original levels included here are among the best in the entire series.

Honorable Mentions: Inscryption, Griftlands, Rift Wizard, Adios, Boomerang X, RE Village, Sable, What's Your Gender
Citizen Sleeper
Citizen Sleeper
In a year of truly great writing, it's impressive that Citizen Sleeper manages to still stand out amongst its peers with heartstring-tuggingly tender moments, lovable characters, and a supreme sense of place. Citizen Sleeper is everything I love about science fiction, and everything I love about interactive stories.

Honorable Mentions: He Fucked the Girl Out of Me, Herald of Havoc, Pentiment, Lunacid, Gloomwood, The Case of the Golden Idol, Neon White
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4
The Resident Evil 2 Remake was my first real introduction to the series, and my first earnest foray into the horror genre. Since then, I've slowly but surely grown more fond of the series. The RE4 Remake is likely my favorite of the bunch - a perfect combination of atmosphere, schlocky story, and certifiably FANTASTIC combat.

Honorable Mentions: Dead Space Remake, Battle Bit Remastered, Viewfinder, Baldur's Gate III, Shogun Showdown
