I'd rate this 5 stars, BUT -
BUUUUUT -
27 Games
- there's always that little bitter taste that it's called Metroid but the map isn't, y'know... [waves hands around] thiiis.
- despite how lovely of an experience it is, and how the harsh bits add to the mood, it's just too unwieldy to actually play without spoiling yourself.
- when the game needed one good boss break, after the incredible Mynah fight, the Chimera fight sucks.
- the platforming is clunky.
- the parts are disjointed in feel, and surprisingly/disappointingly not in a way that I feel helps the narrative.
- Quiplash is a giant whatever.
- infinite spin kinda gimps the difficulty.
- as much as I love it, the ending just doesn't stick any thematic landing.
- there's some escape room-ass puzzle design that takes out of the game's mood, and the Lynch references are a bit on the nose.
- IR is always just a hair behind proper CRT light gun tracking.
- the fire marble puzzle kinda sucks in execution.
- the early backtracking is baaaad.
- for better or for worse, something or all of the things that got updated changed it past what I loved.
- the Triforce chart quest is arduous.
- the economy is just wrong enough that it feels like grinding the RSC to sell over and over is the best way to play it.
- it just doesn't feel feature-complete with skills missing, and the tutorial segment is pretty long for something so braindead.
- my thumbs still hurt.
- it's Heaven's Feel and we're back in Shirou's house, again, having lunch.
- the touch screen stuff is goofy, and Ayami Kojima got stiffed.
- Go My Way is a thing.
- you make me wanna la-la, though I could never hear actually hear the lyrics and looking them up I'm fuckin dying
- I mean, I might, but in like fifteen years.
- as much as the narrative and some of the metafiction landed, it felt like the shift section was missing a bit of struggle, whether that meant more interaction to get out of the situation or just more time to let it simmer.
- the ranking system is dopey and the screen real estate is cramped.

did I simulate the temple that made me stop playing this game twice well enough?

- I'm actually having trouble here, the only reasons that come to mind are Sentinel, Magneto, and Storm...
