Quirky Earthbound-Inspired Games & Games That Aren't But People Say Are
I think I explained it well in the title. Release order. Read notes for confirmation if they are or not.
29 Games
Mother 3.
Not Mother-inspired. The one list of inspirations I could find mentioned Ys, Shining Force, and other games that don't rhyme with the title.
Sequel to Undertale. You know the drill.
You know despite the memes Lisa is probably the only Mother-inspired game about depression. Omori is debatable but I think the main character has way more prevelant mental health issues than depression. I guess you could argue against it for Lisa too but it definitely fits more with the setting and themes of the game.
The creator has been very clear about Mother being an influence on Undertale obviously, but there are some lesser known inspirations such as Moon: Remix RPG Adventure & Touhou!
Mother 2.
Mother-inspired. Fairly obvious. I'm getting sick of the word "inspire..."
Sequel to Hylics. Second verse same as the first.
Remake of OneShot. The answer is no if that wasn't obvious enough.
Confirmed to be Mother-inspired. Essentially a Mother and Yume Nikki crossover.
Unlikely to be Mother-inspired, but the retro-looking areas somewhat kind of resemble Mother 1. Kind of. The creator is fairly elusive so we can't say for sure but I'm not really sure where this idea originates. I see so many people say it and never provide a source.
Remake of Ib. I'm tired.
Creator had not played Mother before making OFF. They said if they had OFF would be a pretty different game, which I guess makes this the anti-Mother-inspired game.
Very obviously not Mother-inspired, this is a horror adventure game. Probably Yume Nikki-inspired but Yume Nikki was incredibly influential to RPG Maker and adventure games as a whole. If everything inspired by it is "Mother-inspired" that would be like saying every platformer is Donkey Kong-inspired, except in this case we don't even know if Yume Nikki is Mother-inspired.
Mother 4 (in my heart).
The creator of End Roll seems to be pretty off the grid and this game in general isn't really popular enough to have a ton of information on it. I haven't played it yet so consider this a "I don't know." I'm gonna guess no though because people tend to exaggerate on RPG Maker games being Mother-inspired.
Confirmed to be Mother-inspired. Trey Parker is actually a big fan of the series.
Creator had played Mother before, but said that it was not an inspiration.
It's not Mother-inspired, but Yume Nikki was an influence. You know continuing on what I said on Ib's page, do people still think something is Mother-inspired if it's inspired by a game inspired by Mother? That's pretty ridiculous if you ask me, makes it sound like these games have no identity of their own when they're so completely far removed from Mother. I don't think The Stick of Truth and Undertale are very similar in style.
Sequel to Stick of Truth. Maybe all Mother inspirations are gone, maybe they're more present, I don't know.
It's Lisa again.
Mother.
Mother is an inspiration. It plays more like Zelda than a traditional RPG, though.
The creator tried to play Mother 2 and "couldn't get into it." Mainly inspired by WarioWare and Mario & Luigi.
I mean, just look at the art in this one. Mother was an inspiration for the whole Lisa series.
Clearly Mother-inspired.
Citizens of Earth sequel. Convinced no one has played this.
Creator is a big fan of Mother. I'm not sure how strong of an inspiration it is, I was finding more sources saying Persona than Mother, but I would still say that this probably counts.
