I learned something about myself playing this...
I CAN BOOGIE!!!!!!!

This game really personifies the term "generically good". It's hard to find something outright bad. It handles powerups slightly better than the first game by adding the tanooki. But other than that it's just kind of a hollow game with nothing much to remember it for. The coin collecting gimmick could've been cool in concept but they don't differ at all compared to any other 2d Mario game so what's the point. Glad I have my perspective on it but it's definitely one the weakest games in the franchise for me so far.

I think this game is primarily flawed because of the combat. I think this would've been better as a third person action game because meleeing with the club or spear is pretty bad and that only leaves long ranged combat with the bow and spear and some throwable bomb like weapons which can get a little stale in a game this long. That being said I still enjoyed my time with this game. Stealth was kinda fun especially bombing unsuspecting enemies with the owl which funny to watch. Matter of fact I think the primary draw of this game is using your tamed animals to kill things, making a giant bear ragdoll people and rhinos is cool. I enjoyed the story too, the character you meet along the way are entertaining and I love the idea of building up your tribe over time. I'm definelty glad I finished this and I certainly had fun. I just wished the combat was way more complex and my rating would be much higher.

I sure was bound to earth

except for the part where I went to space

What can I say it's more 8 Deluxe making it the definitive Mario Kart yeah some of the new tracks were meh like Sunset Wilds or Toad Circuit, we also got some of the best in the game like Waluigi Pinball, Bowser's Castle 3 (Snes) and 3ds Rainbow Road, as well as some great new ones like Ninja Hideaway and Squeaky Clean Sprint. I'm not entirely sure if I prefer it to the base 8 Deluxe but it is 100% worth it.

Continuing my holy crusade to play every Mario Kart. There are some things I loved and some stuff that I didn't like at all. First of all, I think I should address the drifting. It's definelty more of a skill this time around. I prefer drifting in later games it's still a ton of fun and considering it lacks air tricks and gliders, it definelty gives this game more of an identity. Then there's the courses, the nitro courses almost all slap they introduced some of the best of the best here: Peach Gardens, Airship Fortress, Bowser's Castle DS, Tick Tock Clock, WALUIGI PINBALL oh my GAWD they cooked like crazy with these. But then there's the retros. And honestly most of them suck. I get they couldn't bring a lot of double dash courses but in that case they could've just focused on 64 courses because the snes ones are so short it feels like they are over before they begin. The Super Circuit ones are also just eh. I will be giving some slack though since this the first game to have retro courses. And there's mission mode: it's good. Nothing super fantastic, but it's a fun relaxing little pace breaker that I honestly wish returned in later games. Mario Kart DS isn't a "generically good" game like what I used to think Mario Kart 7 was (I now think 7 is freakin great), it's a good game that has quite a few things holding it back which is better if you ask me since that makes its pros stand out all the more.

This is a solid game with a few drawbacks. I think the main one being it doesn't take full advantage of the game play capabilities. One of the big points of the game when it released was that it was 2D Mario with 3D mechanics like wall jumping and triple jumping yet pretty much none of the levels really take advantage of these mechanics. Same with the power ups, there are a lot of cool power ups like the shell, mini mushroom, and mega mushroom, yet the only way to get them in most levels is just to hope the red box floats above the level you're playing which is a let down to me as these power ups could easily have entire levels themed around them. But this game ain't bad at all, the levels themselves are honestly pretty solid especially in world 8 some of those levels felt straight out of Mario Maker. And although a common complaint of the new supe series is that they're visually dull, I wouldn't really say that applies here. I know it was probably due to limitations but the low poly 3D models combined with 2D textures and sprites gave it a pretty unique art style that I definelty wouldn't say is dull. I still had a lot of fun playing this in my downtime and would absolutely recommend it, it's just a shame that it doesn't completely utilize what it's capable of as the building blocks were their to make something truly great.

This review contains spoilers

This Review is going to be a review of all 3 updates and how they affected the game

Update 1:
A good start. I love that it gave an option to replay the Boss fights since as said in my review of the base game those are some of the biggest highlights in the entire series. I also liked the cyberspace challenge I think the simple goal of s ranking every stage made gave a good flow and being able to unlock the power boost made revisiting the stages more fun then before. I also love how speed running is actively encouraged. Oh and the Jukebox was a nice little addition.

Update 2:
The cosmetic stuff was fine I don't use it. However the new koco were a blast to collect as well as having a reward of permanetly increasing the boost gauge. There was a great quality of life improvement of being able to decrease deceleration which gives a horizontal jump much more distance. Then there's the spindash... while the process to unlock it can be a bit tedious it completely changes how you can play and can pretty much allow you to fly across island and is one of the most satisfying things I've ever done in any video game.

Update 3:
This is the big one holy shit this was awesome. One of the criticisms of the base game was how weak the climax was. The Final Horizon delivered and then some with it's new story that completely revamps the endgame. It gave the ability to play as Amy, Knuckles, and Tails who are all really fun to platform with. I am bummed that their combat isn't nearly fleshed out as Sonic's though, but I guess that still gives an incentive to play as Sonic. Another thing that this new campaign did was ramp up the difficulty. I've seen some people complain about it but it honestly isn't even that bad. Though I'm disappointed they didn't change the aesthetic of Ouranos Island, the challenge made it much more memorable. The new mini bosses also ramped up the difficulty and I actually really enjoyed all of them because of how crazy they can get with the only one I didn't like being the new spider mini boss. They also remixed cyberspace stages to be really crazy with all new missions and challenges that encourage replayability Then there's the new final boss... I wasn't ready. The original final boss was so anticlimactic but WOW they went all out with THE END it brought out a legitimate challenge while raising the hype meter into orbit and is possibly the greatest final boss in any platformer ever.

Conclusion: It's honestly astounding how much work Sonic team put into this game in just one year. And it's all of free. Though it still has obvious flaws I can't help but love this whole game and the work that went into it.

I don't think this game gets nearly enough credit since it was basically id's triumphant return before Doom 4. To start let me just say this is probably the best story I've experienced in an fps so far. It's not the deepest it's just very well executed with great characters backed by great performances. The gunplay is also fun as hell. It could have been a little more polished but still managed to find a fine middle ground between cover based and run and gun style gameplay and every weapon feels like it packs a serious punch even the pistol. The stealth is also pretty fun too, though I could see it being repetitive to others which is why i think it is good that stealth is completely optional. Also though this isn't the first shooter to have dual wielding, GOD DAMN does it feel good here. So I'd definelty recommend this game after all few things are as fun as just "shooting, stabbing, strangling Nazi's".

(This is a review of the base game I'm going to review the dlc tracks in the booster course pages)
Damn I don't know if Mario Kart 9 will ever come out but if it doesn't, then this would've one incredible way to end it. First there's the retro tracks, they don't just recycle tracks, they completely revamp them with new routes and looks. I thought the tracks in mk64 were boring but this made the tracks a blast to race on. And the new tracks are great too, with a ton of variety and flare to each while having good challenge. Mt Wario is goated. This game basically just takes the best aspects of all Mario karts (minus double dash) and mashes them together and it works fantastically.

After playing this game it made me realize that I was way to harsh on Mario Kart 7. I know a lot of people have a soft spot for this game but I'm sorry to say it but I don't think this game is that good. The physics are janky and the tracks are generally pretty boring and it always felt more like luck than skill if I ever won a match. The only reason I'm choosing to give this a 5/10 is because:
a. the soundtrack is quite nice
b. while the tracks are eh here but they went on to be solid in later games
c. the luck based gameplay can make multiplayer very fun

"This is a category of game I would call a generically good game"
-Past Me (spoken like a true dumbass)
I went on a vacation to Hawaii recently and a friend recommended a challenge to me of only playing on my 3ds instead of my switch in my downtime and so decided to replay this. I used to say this game was good but nothing great. But replaying nah this game is a jam. It isn't as polished as 8 but it controls really well and the glider mechanic was very well utilized. And the track line up is also great I found few to no stinkers in there both remixed and new, heck it probably has my favorite rendition of Rainbow Road. Looking back now Mario Kart 7 is like Doom 2016. Yeah its sequel went on to surpass it in nearly every aspect, but it's still an awesome experience in it's own right

I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews on this site, but this honestly is one of my favorite games in recent memory.

First there's the story and writing which a lot of reviews I've seen say is bad and shitty, but I actually found myself enjoying it. Nothing made me laugh per say, but a lot of the jokes and character interactions did make me smile. Maybe it's because I'm a young adult who makes similar jokes with my friends but I can't help it.

Than there's the gameplay which I can best sum up as "Doom Eternal Lite" but that's 10 miles too far from a bad thing in my eyes. It simplifies a lot of Eternals mechanics. You don't have armor, you only have six weapons as opposed to 9 (7 if you count the sword), none of the weapons have alt fires (though they can be upgraded), and so on. But the thing is, everything still plays out the fabled "Doom Dance" fantastically. You shoot enemies to gain health back and slash them with the sword to get ammo, this simple loop still managed to create an amazing push forward combat loop that got really addicting, and even though non of the weapons have alt fires, they can be upgraded to improve how they play, and each weapon still felt like it had it's place in the combat and pulling of gun cycling combo's never gets old. Heck, this arena fps managed to make it's pistol weapon still viable in the late game, that's an accomplishment if I've ever seen one. And last in the game play department are this game's glory kill equivalent: the finishers, while yes they do give health back when used, they also need to be charged up and allow to use's your enemies' weapons for a short time. I love this because it really makes you have to work for a power trip and still requires the player to be smart with it.

Over all I see this game as more than a "Doom Eternal Clone" though I don't really get this criticism as whole where a game releases with a similar style to a popular game and it's labeled as a rip off. That's just how the game industry works, and Shadow Warrior 3 still manages to feel different from the rest. If you didn't like this game that's completely fine, but to quote Lo Wang "Listen I know your experience probably differs from mine, but I am having a blast!!".

Gotta say for the first outing as a fully 3d game they really did a good job. It's a 3d platformer that has an incentive on exploration and between the weapon blueprints, saving waddle dees, and even the currency which now is also used to upgrade weapons made each level a blast to explore especially with each levels gimmicks which can also be amplified by the new mouthful mode. Obviously a lot of well known weapons wouldn't work as well in 3D so I think the upgrade system is a good trade off. A criticism I do have is that some of the standard levels are quite easy (though I get that's a common kirby trope), but the challenge does step in with the special stages, which are needed to further upgrade weapons, and the post game levels do offer a fair challenge. in the end, I gotta give this a solid 8/10, could have a fair bit more challenge, hey it's a kids game.

1993

(Just to clarify, I played this on the 2019 remaster but this is the more popular version so I decided to post it here)
Definitely a case of first game syndrome. On the one hand this is still pretty fun and oddly relaxing to play at times just gunning away at demons while rocking out to midi metal. On the other hand it can get a bit repetitive quick and some levels (especially in the 3rd episode) were a chore to navigate. Still I'm glad I decided to finish it and I will give a round of applause to the grandfather of the fps. And compared to the first games of other franchises it's definitely on the better side of it.
