reflecting on the indie games i’ve played

Nothing here!

one of my favorite stories told in gaming, with a beautiful art style, a fantastic soundtrack, a flawlessly written cast of engaging characters, and incredible subtext that is able to explore a plethora of harsh themes without ever feeling oversimplified or didactically patronizing. you absolutely should check it out if you haven’t done so already.
a butter smooth, tightly designed, and challenging platformer that very effectively utilizes its gameplay mechanics to tell a beautiful and moving story.
visually enthralling, narratively riveting, thematically cogent, and just so much fun to play, with one of the most satisfying combat and gameplay loops that i’ve ever experienced. hades is fucking awesome.
it oscillates between having some of the most fun, satisfying, brilliantly and creatively designed puzzles in a game sandwiched between some of the most frustratingly obtuse, oblique, and bullshit puzzles i’ve ever had the displeasure of having to solve. it’s a hell of a curiosity though.
beautiful visuals, a solid story, and a fantastic soundtrack but the rather lackluster combat really brings down the experience for me. it definitely needs a revisit someday.
pretty much a masterpiece of level design, puzzle design, storytelling, and atmosphere. a seismic and unmitigated step up from limbo.
a very solid and atmospheric platformer despite its more oblique puzzle design towards the end. inside is much better.
not an amazing game but i still had a good time with it when i played it. it certainly helped get me through some mind numbingingly boring classes back in high school.
a very enjoyable and unique sensory experience. it didn’t quite hit me with the same emotional power as something like gris or journey did but I still had a good time with it.
wonderful and charming characters, great writing, very relevant and emotionally resonant themes but it fails to bring its narrative to a fulfilling or satisfying conclusion. otherwise though? it’s definitely a game that’s worth checking out.
such a memorable experience above all else.
one of the most fun, satisfying, and rewarding gameplay loops that i’ve ever experienced. it utilizes both the open world and survival genre in such a brilliant way.
it’s fucking hollow knight dude. what am i supposed to say that hasn’t already been said before?
a masterful example of how to tell a story in a way that only a game could.
another masterful example of how to tell a story in a way that only video games could.
one of the most relentlessly entertaining and consistently exhilarating gaming experiences that i’ve ever had. strong contender for the best 2d platformer that i’ve ever played.
a fantastic detective game, with a gripping and creatively presented narrative, a fantastic soundtrack, and one of the most fun gameplay loops that i’ve ever experienced. i love it.
one of the most unforgettable gaming experiences that i’ve ever had. absolutely go into it as blind as possible.
