I haven't even played this game but I know it's a underrated masterpiece. Sometimes the world is unkind to new ideas. It's a shame.

Super Mario 3D Land is, in my opinion, easily the most underrated and underappreciated 3D mario game. People have recently been praising Super Mario 3D World, but many of its creative ideas came from this game. This game is just so cozy, I can’t describe it. The gross plastic aesthetic from 3D World is completely absent. Most of the soundtrack was once again stolen later from 3D World. The game is generally easy, but that is okay with me. The level environments in mario games are typically grouped into worlds. This can easily make the player feel tired of them. However, in Super Mario 3D Land, the level environments are randomized with each level being different from the last. Unless a game is trying to make a full, complete world, I much prefer this way. The gameplay while being in 3D takes more from 2D mario than 3D by featuring distinct linear levels. The tunici leaf from Super Mario Bros. 3 returns, but you can’t fly this time. This makes sense as it would break the game, yet it’s still disappointing. Even though I like different environments from each level, the environments themselves aren’t interesting at all. They are just generic mario themes for the most part, but the clock level was fun. Another complaint I have is that the movement is very mid. The sideflip, crouch jump, and long jump all feel underpowered, like they just don’t quite provide enough of a boost to use. And sometimes the run button doesn't work for me. In general, this is a cozy must play on the 3DS that I hope gets a Switch port soon (side note, how did Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon get a Switch port before this game, Animal Crossing New Leaf, and Kid Icarus Uprising? It is a little frustrating).

Persona 5 Royal could easily have been bad. There are many boring 100 hour long RPGs out there. And with the abundance of bad anime games praying on anime fans to play, this could have been a drastic failure. But it isn’t. Instead, we have a creative game with a gripping story and unique characters. Igor and Morgana are my favorites. Live through the tragic tale of how Joker Batman gets sued and tries to fit into society with a criminal record all the while he has to deal with this strange app on his phone that teleports him to worlds of other people's hearts desires. The music is fantastic. Last Surprise, Beneath the Mask, and Triumph are standouts. Even though I am only a couple hours in, I can tell this is a fantastic game. The game looks its best during 2D hand-animated anime cutscenes.

2016

Abzu is a surreal ocean explorer game that doesn't need complex gameplay to make it a good game. However, it is more like a visual experience than a video game. The art direction in this game is nothing like I have ever seen before. Any screenshot of this game could rival modern art. No need to worry about difficulty in this, you can’t even die. The frame rate on Switch can be a bit stuttery, but in general, the art direction makes up for it. The game utilizes a live orchestra. This really strengthens the vibe this game is going for. Oftentimes the music will be cleverly timed with an event. I won’t spoil it, but in the later half of this game, some cool sci-fi elements are introduced. The gameplay is extremely simple. Press ZR to dive, swim around, and occasionally do some simple puzzles.

Once again Sonic fans make a better Sonic game than Sega has in quite some time. The art direction and visual style are perfect. I especially love the Kirby sound effect samples. No Sonic game has looked this good before. That being said, sometimes the visuals can be overwhelming. There are a decent amount of creative ideas in this game. You will ride a rollercoaster in a volcanic area, fly with a plant propeller, or fight a train. The level design is easily the weakest aspect of this game. It is very simplistic with little to no enemies. A lot of the time you will just hold right. The super peel out from Sonic CD is back, which is nice. I typically use it more than the spin dash since it is faster, and I don’t need the defense from the spin dash. I love how Sonic’s legs get all squiggly when he charges up the super peel out. The music as with most Sonic games is top notch.

This game looks incredible. Excited for the full realese.

This game could have been perfect if they cut out all of the enemies, bosses, and a couple other ideas and focuses on the core platforming and vibes. It's very frustrating because I believe it could easily be one of the best platformers ever if these simple issues were fixed. A sequel addressing these issues would be magnificent since the core platforming with the drill and hook is some of the most fun I have ever had with a 2D platformer. I hope this studio makes more good games.

I love kirby

Big improvement from Return to Dreamland. Most notably the environments are top-natch. You got ancient ruins, forests, vines, and even space castle. The new power ups kinda too random for me besides archer though. Bug ability? Bell ability?

...Clown ability?

The level design is really good. I liked how you go in the background a bunch because of the 3D on the 3DS. Speaking of the 3D, it worked surprisingly well here. Normally I turn it off after a while but I never found myself doing that. It also makes use of the gyro controls I guess.

Great game go play it.

Shredder raps about little ceasers

I don't think everyone realizes how ingenious sonic team is. They found a winning formula with sonic generations, so they reinvented the wheel to make sonic lost world, then reinvented the wheel to make sonic boom, then they decide to go back to the sonic generations format but also decided to rush the game with sonic forces, and then they reinvented the wheel again to make sonic frontiers. Truly incredible.

I HATE mario. He's so annoying! He always says "OOOOF" and "it's me mario" and I'm just like shut up you little man. somebody duck tape his legs and let me play the game

I got hardlocked, and I lost my game cartridge. Redgie I demand a refund

Kirbys Return to the REM Sleeping World is fun and kirby but it has some tiny issues that bother me. The mega copy abilities are pointless, boring, and mainly just a marketing tool, some of the game has new super mario bros. enviornments, some ideas are repeated like rolling boulders, timed powerups, and that stupid doomer guy. The thing that bugs me the most is that a lot of the secrets require you to use a specific copy ability, and you often can't go back to get that copy ability in the level. Just let me use the copy abilities I want to use😠😠😠😠

With that being said this game is awesome. The level design is great, the copy abilites are amazing with a decent amount of commands (my favorites are whip and fighter) and its got magalor in it.

also why does dedede look like that in the remaster i hate it.

klirby stuper sar is the 4th mainline kirby game. Instead of being one big game, it combines of a bunch of tiny games.
This is really cool since each one of them has their own ideas, some of which haven't been touched on since. I would love to see a full kirby game based on the premise of milky way wishes or great cave offensive. Its a little lame that it repeats a few boss fights, but there isn't that much to complain about here. Easily one of my favorite kirby games up there with robo-bot and forgotten land. Time to hyperfixate on more kirby games.
