Possibly the biggest masterpiece on the Genesis to not gain traction in the west, this 2D platformer is like a well-polished Zelda 2 with better hit detection. It's most certainly an RPG-lite with the ability to level up your items as well as your health.
The Arabic art style of this game no doubt went on to influence the Shantae series.

For many, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess were the standard bearers of 3D Zelda games for years to come. But then came a game that took everything we knew about the series and turned it on its head for the better. Gone were the linear dungeons, items that were good for only one or two parts of the game. Now there's a gigantic wild Hyrule to explore, of which EVERY part of the map can be traversed with the proper gear. Hyrule IS the dungeon, because Ganon rules it all.
This is the first open-world adventure game where I don't feel overwhelmed. There's no complicated crafting, and for the crafting that is there, it's easy to follow: just pick up the parts you need, that you likely already have, and hand 'em over or cook them, no complicated methods of doing so. For me that's a huge plus.

A technical marvel for the Sega Genesis that was criminally overlooked due to its late release. Very unique style of play; you use your arms to grab and fling enemies, as well as help build momentum to fly through levels (since you are a shooting star after all). Very colorful, looking like a later SNES title than a Genesis title. Highly recommended for fans of the Genesis and Mega Drive.

Hideo Kojima's first point and click game is also one of the best ever made. Though not as thorough with its hard science as its successor Policenauts, it more than makes up for it with a cast of characters you'll find yourself becoming attached to very quickly, and a gripping story reminiscent of They Live (you thought I was gonna say Blade Runner huh). This is easily the best Christmas game ever made, check it out.

A very immersive walking simulator and detective game. Unfortunately, it takes far too long to get into. Some really swear by this game but I cannot recommend this unless you are prepared to invest a lot of your time into a very dated game. For a similar experience with a lot more to it, try a game from the Yakuza series.
