about as good as the first game, the overall worse bosses (the grapple guardian and chykka in particular) are made up for by the heavily rebalanced weapon system that prevented the power beam from being complete dead weight after getting one beam upgrade, and the pretty cool light/dark world system

they finally managed to top AA3 and AAI2, bravo shu takumi

easy top 3 AA games, i think AA3 and AAI2 still beat it out but it will not shock me if its sequel cracks the top 1

i thought the first two BMZ games were pretty good, solid games but nothing incredible

but this right here? this is something incredible, gameplaywise i feel inti's finally perfected both the on-foot and tank combat, and storywise it's absolutely phenomenal. much like luminous avenger iX, the last section of the game is absolutely packed with twists, and is sure to keep you engaged if you liked the first two games

do note that, unlike the first two titles, it's a lot more linear a la metroid fusion. like fusion though, it's a phenomenal game despite that

the only things i can really hold against this game are the stupid fucking fission metroids and that the backtracking could get a bit annoying, everything else is absolutely phenomenal

this game makes me really angry, they took SO many steps back from zero 3 and you can really tell they were forced by capcom to churn this one out

the most effort that seems to have been put in was for the amazing ending (which prevents this game from being entirely a waste) and the music (which genuinely ranks among the best mega man soundtracks, imo)

elpizo still the biggest coper circa 23XX

heavily underrated, and genuinely far better than zero 4 even if it doesn't reach the heights 2 and 3 do

also the triple rod is still the best non-saber weapon in the series and i'm so sad it never came back

SJR has one of the more peculiar battle systems in megaten, with it not really being recreated anywhere else, and that alone makes it worth playing

i also almost prefer the first-person dungeon traversal to the third-person style (though SMTV will probably change that for me), and this game has so much QoL compared to the original that after a while it really feels good to play

it also has easily the absolute BEST new game+ system in any megaten i've played, allowing a massive amount of customization on what you can bring over. definitely a breath of fresh air after the somewhat mediocre NG+ of IV and IVA, though there's not much content actually exclusive to SJR's NG+ besides some superbosses (which are very difficult except for the one from original SJ, by the way!)

i enjoyed this game well enough on my first playthrough, but IV's main issue is that it's basically impossible to go back to after playing IV apocalypse (believe me, i've tried)

IVA just has so many QoL changes and better gameplay in general that, despite IV having the better story, it's really not worth going back to when IVA is right there

i will give IV this though, it has way better replayability than IVA, with the three alignments all having their own exclusive challenge quests (including NG+ exclusive ones)

this had some really annoying bosses (none on the level of super metroid ridley though), but everything else being so solid makes up for it

it's also pretty short, but i also didn't 100% the game (i ended off with 52%) so that's probably on me

i don't know if it's because i just came off of playing AM2R, but this game just kinda didn't hit for me

also the ridley fight fucking sucks holy shit

honestly weird to go back to after being so used to modern kirby, and i do have some nitpicks such as abilities not having invincibility frames during some attacks when they really should

BUT in case you couldn't tell by the 4.5/5 rating i gave it's still easily one of the best kirby games without a doubt

an amazing hack that completely revamps star force 1 from a decent, but rough game into a fantastic experience that is almost as amazing as star force 3. cannot recommend this enough to any star force fan

sure, it has its fair share of issues with slowdown (at least on switch), but when you get right down to it it's a port of one of the best RPGs of all time with its one huge flaw (the skill inheritance) completely fixed. this game's absolutely worth getting even if you've played nocturne before
