this is a game about shooting a celebrity in the face. there's also some other stuff but I think that's the biggest thing.

Bloody phenomenal. Sometimes it was a little confusing but figuring out your case is so much fun. Can't wait to play the other games.

This is what Watch Dogs Legion should've been in total. It has an actually engaging narrative and even though the characters are from older games I just cared about them. The play as anyone feature in the original game is cool but having a cast of characters just makes it that much more fun to play through.

Simple and fun. Everything works together and keeps you interested and compelled through the experience.

Stray is one of those great short but sweet games. It doesn't even take 5 hours to beat (unless you focus on getting on all the collectibles, then you'll probably hit those 5 hours, maybe one more) but it managed to reel me in and invest me into this world and its inhabitants through the eyes of an adorable cat. Walking around this dystopian city would probably already fill me with wonder, but doing it through the eyes of a cat, jumping around on boxes and tubes just added to that wonderful feeling.

It's not really platforming in the sense that you can constantly fall down and lose your progress, but jumping around, as I said, is a pretty big part of the game. This makes it so that in the last hour or so it kind of lost some of the excitement for me, but it works and again, the atmosphere is simply top notch.

In terms of other obstacles you'll mostly be running from little meatblobs with glowing eyes, sneak past a bunch of drones or you will be looking around a large area for a specific item to give to a specific character so you can progress. These things as well are a lot of fun the first few times, but luckily as soon as it starts to get a little stale, the game is over.

The thing I come back to the most though is, again, world itself. It completely sucked me up from the moment that there weren't even any NPC's present. The levels and area's themselves just feel so well-realized and thought out, looking beautiful from any angle you look at it (which makes the lack of a photo-mode even more glaring). Once you do start to meet some characters though, they are also integrated into the world beautifully and really added to the kind of cute but somber vibe that is present all throughout Stray. I'd say it's absolutely worth your time.

Taking pretty much everything that was great about God of War 2018 and refining it into this, with a story that stands so well next to its predecessor and manages to expand on it so much. Everything that worked is there, with easier to manage menu's and other little changes that make the game feel fresh but familiar.

If there'd be one misstep I find worth mentioning it's that some dialogue felt a little... odd? Some lines just seem quite 'modern' but it's not extremely prominent. Every once in a while a character would just say something that I expected more out of the mouth of an Uncharted character than a God of War one, but outside of that? Not much to complain out on my end.

I believe that if you liked God of War 2018, this is a no-brainer. The story is just as, if not more moving as the previous one in certain parts and alongside that it's just a whole lot of fun to play. Everything I could ask for with this game.

i'm very bad at puzzle games. this game made me realize that, but it was still really fun. the writing is funny and the story, while not being extremely prominent all throughout was mysterious and intriguing. The portal physics were nice to experiment with. on to Portal 2!

The combat is fun and customizable, the nemesis system works pretty well and there are some really cool Story moments. The ending of the game does leave a poor taste however, due to a very grindy endgame and a story that is not nearly as compelling as any of Tolkien’s books.

plays pretty nice, and the environments are cool but I felt like I finished it in the first 5 hours but the story went on for 3 more. made it a bit of a drag to play.

Guardians of the Galaxy is the biggest surprise of this year to me and a serious GOTY contender. While it’s still a little buggy at times, the decent gameplay, greatly fleshed out characters and fun but heavy-hitting story make this an incredible game for both fans of the Marvel universe, and Guardians specifically too, and people who just want a fun adventure game set in space.

So I think it’s pretty clear that I think this game holds up great. Metal Gear Solid is an incredible game that combines a gripping, personal story with gameplay that is so solid (pun intended, maybe) it’s better than some games I’m playing that came out in more recent years. It is a technical and pop culture achievement and I’m incredibly happy I’ve finally taken the time to go through it. It was more than worth it.

This game kicks ass!

Persona 5 Royal is my favorite game ever. I don't make a secret of that. Learning of the existence of this game, which is a spin-off/sequel of sorts was exciting to say the least, but at the time it was only out in Japan. I made a Japanese Nintendo account to try out the demo on switch, but after a while a localization for the west was revealed.

This game picks up in the summer vacation after the original game. And I say original, because the events of the content Royal adds, are not canon to this universe. At least they're never mentioned by the characters. Slight bummer, but the two titles were being developed at the same time and by different studios, so it's definitely understandable. Alongside that I have to say, this game really expects you to have played the original, and I don't think you'll get as much mileage out of it as you can if you have. It's not required, since this narrative is pretty separate, but it does build on a lot of character arcs from the first game and throws terms around that might not make much sense without knowing what they're from. Still though, I think it's decently playable without any prior knowledge.

The gameplay is switched up quite a bit as well. Instead of the usual turn-based combat there is now a more action/warriors-type of combat. You'll be controlling Joker and the party members in real time and mashing buttons to attack wave after wave of shadows and demons. That's not to say it's easy though, and a lot of the elements from the turn-based combat are also implemented, and incredibly well at that! When you want to use a magic attack, the battle pauses so you can select it and see the area it affects. This way you keep the strategy that is present in the other Persona titles. It's very well done.

Overall I'd probably describe this game as kind of a Persona 5 Lite. It's all a bit more streamlined and simpler than the original game, but it works very well. It definitely delivers and feels more like a sequel to P5 than a spin-off. I highly recommend it!

This is my first mainline Megaten game and it really was a ton of fun! I had to grind quite a bit which makes for the fact that I've only just finished it, despite owning the game since release. The combat is fun and engaging because of the press-turn system, which really encouraged building versatile parties to counter certain strengths and weaknesses.

The game can get really tough. Especially in boss-fights I regularly found myself with just a bit too little MP, or I'd get killed in a single round because of a series of unlucky hits. Even after a few hours of grinding you can still die to an enemy critting on every single attack they make.

Not only can you build effective strategies with your team compositions, but also by changing up their move-sets. When fusing demons to fight for you, you can assign them new skills that might not originally be in their list of powers, because you fused it with a certain demon. You can also find essences throughout the world, that let you replace skills and affinities for both your demons and your main character: Nahobino.

Your character is basically a demon that fuses with a human to fight throughout Da'at, also called the Netherworld. It's a big power to have here. The story is definitely there, but wasn't all too compelling to me. I'm sure there's a bunch of symbolism here and thematic stuff, but it didn't fully register with me the first time around. I can definitely see myself playing this again and delving into it further to understand it better though.

On the technical side this game is... okay. Graphically it's fine, but it definitely seemed to take a lot out of my Switch, since it was making a lot of noise at times. Every so often there'll be a dip in framerate, which is especially noticeable during the cutscenes.

All in all though, Shin Megami Tensei V served as a really fun and exciting journey into the franchise I opened the door to with Persona 4 and 5. I'll definitely be playing the other ones as well!

holy everloving moly shitshow this game rocks. it is non-stop high intensity fun. i would honestly kind of put it in the same category as Metal Gear Rising in terms of tone and combat.

i've never played a DMC game before this but i was able to grasp the story of this installment pretty well. it helped that there was a little movie explaining the previous games but my dumbass only watched that after beating it. this game's story wasn't really the most amazing thing ever but it was compelling enough. i think for fans of the series it'll be pretty mind-blowing, since even i was surprised at times.

where this game really shines though, is the combat. there are so. many. options. you have 3 (or well technically 4) characters at your disposal, all of them have loads of abilities for you to unlock. every PC also has multiple abilities, like Dante having 8 different weapons and multiple styles of combat to switch through with the press of a button. it's honestly a lot, and it took me a few levels to get into and learn about some of the tools at my disposal, but once i did i was able to do some pretty sick combos. this game really just makes you feel like a badass by also mixing in crazy over the top animations and cutscenes, and a heavy soundtrack that hypes you up all throughout.

absolutely fantastic game. will definitely play the rest of the series as well!
